Thoughts on the name Wybie?

we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

I too was going to ask about the pronunciation.

I've never heard of this name except in Coraline (by Neil Gaiman).

It's one thing for a book/film character but not for a real human child surely!! I mean "why-be" so awful to your poor baby?? He will have to grow up with a lifetime of explaining and embarrassment about his ridiculous name. That's if he doesn't change it by deed poll as soon as he is able.

I don't get the appeal, but I am not keen on non traditional names anyway. It just sounds like a silly made up name and I do think you open up the possibility of bullying with such unusual names.

If you like the ' ee ' there are plenty of normal names to pick from like Harvey, Toby, Rory, Bobby.

It's dire. Sounds like some sort of bug or insect.

Just because there are a lots of "unique" names in recent generations doesn't mean that every name that people find is going to be a great choice.

This one in particular is associated with a very specific character, it also sounds like "why be", and obviously can be shortened to "why" which is just extra unnecessary layers of difficulty that you don't need to add onto the name you give your child.

It also doesn't sound particularly pleasing to my ear, and does have the ring of an app name!

Definitely no, even if it wasn't associated with something spooky or fictional horror character. I speak from experience when I say you don't want a name that sounds like a question, a statement, a sentence or a command/instruction. My surname growing up was last of those and at school it was like asking to be teased.

While we are on this subject area. The photo book company Cewe pronounced See Wee - dreadful 🤷‍♀️

You should have to pick names before you're actually pregnant, because pregnancy brain really is wild. Some of the names I considered were awful. Probably not as awful as Whybe.

I like it when people put thought into their kids name rather than just calling them George or Evie or similar which just become one of a sea of many. BUT Wybie is just stupid and an unpleasant sound. Keep thinking!!
