Thoughts on the name Wybie?

we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

OP posts:

It just really doesn’t flow, it sounds like a mouthful and isn’t pleasing to say. Also it means why born - which sounds a bit bleak. I don’t know OP, my baby has a name a lot of people think odd but I really think you could find something a bit nicer

Meadowflower2023 · 21/10/2025 21:37

Finley?

Finley?

That's a good thought op?

Scandalicious · 21/10/2025 22:27

Since you have asked for thoughts, I think it’s an interesting guide to where you are now in your hunt for the right name…and guides you towards the next ideas…but isn’t yet the one.

What about Wiley or Wilby?

What about Wiley or Wilby?

I'd never thought of it before it was suggested on this thread but Wilbur, Wilby for short, is growing on me. I rather like it.

Or even Herbert with nn Herby if it’s the -bee ending that OP is after!

MintPombear · 21/10/2025 23:35

He will be bullied into oblivion.

jsku · 21/10/2025 23:36

This cracks me up…

OP: Can i name my child ‘Whyborn’ nn ‘Whybe’

People: No, it’s horrible. Child will be bullied. He’ll hate the name and wonder why parents did it to him. Adults will question parent’s intentions and sanity.

OP: people are not being nice on MN!

Completely ignoring the fact that she is willing to commit her child to lifetime of world not being nice to them because Mommy thinks the world should like the name she ‘likes’…

OP - it’s not about people being rude to you. It’s about your inability to hear opinions that differ from what your likes are. You asked for opinions - you got them. You proceeded to argue your position. And got offended when told what people would think of you IF you pick that name….
Doesn’t change what people would think of a parent choosing the name that says - ‘Whyborn’ - and opens the kid to lifetime of misery.

It doesn’t have to matter - you can choose whatever name you like.

My DSis named her DD an awful name, won’t write it, may out! It was a name of a historical figure. The family begged, demanded,
threatened NC but she persisted.

As her DD grew up DSis pronounced it in a softer way to the spelling and true pronunciation, she obviously realised that she had made a mistake and demanded that we all did too. Ok!

As soon as my DD reached the age of 18, she changed her name by deed poll.

SwallowsandAmazonians · 21/10/2025 23:45

No, I'm sorry. I like a lot of unusual names but it's really bad.

Percy
Raffi
Sebbie (Sebastian)

I'm sure there are tons of others with a similar ending.

Talipesmum · 21/10/2025 23:52

When you google the name, the only things that come up are a description of the character in coraline, describing that it’s short for “why were you born”, and a link to this thread. Which also mentions your other child’s identifiable name. So not ideal in the future.

It sounds sort of cute, but it’s not a name really. I hope you find something else you like.

JFDIYOLO · 22/10/2025 00:09

Why be you thinking of doing that to your child???

And Wyborn is even worse. 'Why were you even born.'

Just no.

mathanxiety · 22/10/2025 02:43

It's a ridiculous name, imo.

MissDoubleU · 22/10/2025 10:03

Topseyt123 · 21/10/2025 18:21

It's from the book Coraline by Neil Gaiman.

By sexual predator Neil Gaiman.

MissDoubleU · 22/10/2025 10:04

Did you also really love eternal sunshine of the spotless mind? Just a hunch

Missey85 · 22/10/2025 10:14

How drunk are people when they come up with some of these names? 😂 I feel sorry for the kids that gets stuck with them! In a few years you'll be on here posting that your kid gets bullied for having that name give them a normal name! 😡

Friendlyfart · 22/10/2025 10:35

Absolutely not

Mugcake · 22/10/2025 10:36

Sorry I don't like it either buuuuut I did meet a little boy a couple of years ago called Willoughby
It has the "ee" sound at the end you said you like and is still unusual but could be shortened if the baby doesn't like it when hes older.

BoringBarbie · 22/10/2025 10:51

Lilacbluewaters · 21/10/2025 17:51

I have, I am by no means calling all children who attend schools vile. Children that bully however, are.

It's cute that you think homeschooled kids don't get bullied.

Fifiesta · 22/10/2025 14:26

Lilacbluewaters · 21/10/2025 17:44

This is the sort of thing a bully would say. I can’t imagine ever bullying someone over their name. My children won’t be in mainstream school anyway, objectified to these vile children that think it is okay to bully. Parents should be teaching their children it is not ok to bully under any circumstances.

Edited

Sorry?
Are you saying that bullies only go to mainstream schools?
Please do some research, no longer surprised at your alleged name choices.
