Thoughts on the name Wybie?

we really like this name for our baby boy but everyone we have told in real life hates it and says he would be bullied as he grows older. But this generation of children has all sorts of names and I don’t think it’s a name that’s bully worthy?

I like names that mean something personal.. is it after the singer from the Netherlands?
My Grandson loves his music.

Waterbaby41 · 21/10/2025 15:10

I'm sorry to pop your bubble but is really is an awful name - and yes he will get bullied for it. Be kind and choose again.

Jessbow · 21/10/2025 15:10

Call him Yael, or Yago

Yael Benjamin, nickname YB

WalkDontWalk · 21/10/2025 15:11

I do hope your surname’s Jolley, and grows up a cynic.

Wybie in Coraline is short for "why were you born?" Why tf would you name your kid that?

Also you do know what Neil Gaiman has done, don't you? Why would you want to name your baby after a character in one of his books knowing what sort of a person he is?

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 21/10/2025 15:13

What about
arhyu (pronounced 'Are-You')
Whasat (pronounced 'What's That')
Isit.... you get the drift..

Blueuggboots · 21/10/2025 15:14

No.

OneFineDay22 · 21/10/2025 15:18

No. It has a huge amount of teasing potential and an absolutely horrible backstory.

There are loads of -ee ending names for boys, and if you don’t like any of them then you could give him pretty much any other name and put -ee on the end as a nickname!

Poodlelove · 21/10/2025 15:20

It's like a plane company

Ah like Wylie Coyote. These baby names threads are simultaneously hilarious and deeply disturbing.

I think he's harmless enough on the whole!

Hons123 · 21/10/2025 15:21

That sort of name is usually acquired in a boarding school, no? As in a nickname? Unless you are very very rich (Apple Paltrow) and don't care/this is usual in your set, I would not do it.

AltitudeCheck · 21/10/2025 15:22

Why-be stupid, why-be bullied, why-be.... just no!!

How about Toby, Cody or Jody? Whiley / Wiley or Riley?

AngelinaFibres · 21/10/2025 15:22

Lilacbluewaters · 21/10/2025 13:49

Pronounced Why-be

Goes perfectly with the surname DULL.

Corfcorf · 21/10/2025 15:24

Jobby. Wybie-Jobby has a lovely ring to it too.

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 21/10/2025 15:24

Nope

Theseventhmagpie · 21/10/2025 15:27

Positively cruel.

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 21/10/2025 15:27

Really awful

maudelovesharold · 21/10/2025 15:28

I’ve never heard of the name. but it just makes me think of the budget airline, I’m afraid.

Allthegoodhorses · 21/10/2025 15:31

Egregiousabsolute · 21/10/2025 13:54

Fucking hell. Wybie so cruel to your own child OP???

😂

Blarn · 21/10/2025 15:31

Leslie or Wesley if you want an ee ending name that isn't very common now.

RuthW · 21/10/2025 15:31

Dreadful

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/10/2025 15:33

Awful, please don’t inflict this on your poor little baby.

BadLad · 21/10/2025 15:34

This is probably the worst name I’ve ever heard.

CountingDownTheTime · 21/10/2025 15:35

It's ridiculous
