Thoughts on the name Briar-Rebecca, I have an incredibly boring name and am surrounded by siblings with unique names they love!
I think briar is beautiful and Rebecca is nice and classic if preferred could be used.
interested in others thoughts.
thanks

Just......no.

FuzzyPenguin · 07/01/2025 17:15

If you want to use the hyphen then I think Rebecca- Briar flows better. But I do like Briar as a stand alone name, different but not too out there

Needmorelego · 07/01/2025 17:16

As a first and middle name it's fine.
Not all as one name.

PrincessOfPreschool · 07/01/2025 17:18

Briar nice. Full thing, no. Imagine the poor child learning to write all that before school. Imagine the poor teachers, "Briar-Rebecca, do you need the loo? Briar-Rebecca, is this your coat? Briar Rebecca, listening ears please." Rebecca is already a long, stand-alone name without a hyphenated start!

RunSlowTalkFast · 07/01/2025 17:19

Just fyi hyphenated names are generally looked down on.

BeachRide · 07/01/2025 17:20

It's a hedge, isn't it?

BeachRide · 07/01/2025 17:21

How about Bryony instead?

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 07/01/2025 17:21

Why would you inflict such a whim on a child - a child you are supposed to love ?

Moreteaandchocolate · 07/01/2025 17:23

I really like Briar Rebecca without the hyphen

Scutterbug · 07/01/2025 17:23

Not a fan but Briar with Rebecca as a middle name is better than hyphenated.

MrsMitford3 · 07/01/2025 17:24

It is very very clunky.

My vote is a big fat no.

villainousbroodmare · 07/01/2025 17:24

Terrible, sorry, when hammered together like that. It's two names.
Incidentally in Ireland calling someone a briar would be akin to calling them a bitch. Thorny etc. I don't know if others would hear it in that way.

sidsgranny · 07/01/2025 17:25

Sorry but awful with the hyphen.

Briar is beautiful on it's own. Rebecca is fine as a middle name.

SunshineAndFizz · 07/01/2025 17:25

Sorry, another vote for no. Too chunky, doesn't flow well at all.

As separate names they're fine, just use Briar as the first name.

Applepoop · 07/01/2025 17:26

It's not that I dislike it, I just think it would be cumbersome and potentially embarrassing. Briar-Rebecca doesn't sound exactly bad, but it does sound like a species of plant. Boring names are functional and give internet anonymity which could be very valuable in the future. There was a poster earlier who'd left a bad review for a hotel and they'd responded by giving her full name and surname. Not an issue if you're called Helen Jones or whatever.

Arlanymor · 07/01/2025 17:27

I think five syllables for a first name is really clunky as a PP has said. First name and middle name not so bad although it does make me think of Br’er Rabbit I have to say.

Anonym00se · 07/01/2025 17:27

Far too many ‘R’ sounds going on.

Sparkyhasadram · 07/01/2025 17:27

Sounds like a council estate building on the outskirts of Grimsby. Briar-Rebecca Hall

MoodySky · 07/01/2025 17:29

I think Briar-Anne-Bramble flows much better.

AdaColeman · 07/01/2025 17:30

I'd advise getting rid of the hyphen.

As stand alone names Briar and Rebecca are both alright, if rather dated, but they don't really work together, (too many Rrrrrrrrrrs!) and the hyphen makes it worse.

Give your child a chance, don't lumber them with a hyphenated name!

Patty78 · 07/01/2025 17:30

RunSlowTalkFast · 07/01/2025 17:19

Just fyi hyphenated names are generally looked down on.

How rude. Fyi? Who even speaks like that?

Hotflushesandchilblains · 07/01/2025 17:31

I think hypenated names are not generally a good idea. they often come across as pretentious.

UndergroundOvergroundWomblingFreeby · 07/01/2025 17:31

Bryony is a lovely name instead of Briar.
Briar is a thorny or prickly bush why would you call little girl that?
Bryony Rebecca flows well.

kate592 · 07/01/2025 17:31

My first thought for some reason was Brer rabbit . 😂

Briar and Rebecca don't seem to go together at all, they don't run nicely and seem like a very clunky mouthful.

Briar is pretty, ramming Rebecca randomly on the end of it for no reason is crazy.

Donttellempike · 07/01/2025 17:32

Looks pretty, sounds clunky. And twee
