Thoughts on the name Briar-Rebecca, I have an incredibly boring name and am surrounded by siblings with unique names they love!
I think briar is beautiful and Rebecca is nice and classic if preferred could be used.
interested in others thoughts.
thanks

Just fyi hyphenated names are generally looked down on.

MN at its finest 😅

BigMingeEnergy · 07/01/2025 18:15

Awful

user23124 · 07/01/2025 18:16

Makes me think of Brer Rabbit 😂

Bournetilly · 07/01/2025 18:16

That’s absolutely awful, double barrel names are awful too. Briar is ok, Rebecca is awful nowadays sorry.

user2848502016 · 07/01/2025 18:17

Rebecca is lovely that's what I wanted to call my DD but it didn't work with our surname.

Briar is awful sorry

Both together hyphenated is even worse!

HugoYorway · 07/01/2025 18:17

Sounds like Briory Becker.

user23124 · 07/01/2025 18:18

I am so sorry, commented without reading the FT and did not realise Brer Rabbit was "Cancel the cheque"

HugoYorway · 07/01/2025 18:21

have a hyphenated name, it is not looked down on,I t is, @CaptainBeanThief , and you are looking down on name snobs.

Bryre is a nice spelling of it. @Wooooah , it's hideous.

IdgieThreadgoodeIsMyHeroine · 07/01/2025 18:23

The double "r" sound in the middle is hard to say. It's also a very long name- 5 syllables. I wouldn't do it if I were you.

OneBadKitty · 07/01/2025 18:23

What about Breeya? I wouldn't hyphenate but Rebecca is ok as a middle name. However, there are nicer middle names to go with an unusual first name.

TubeScreamer · 07/01/2025 18:25

Just awful.

Rebecca on its own is lovely.

Mercurysinretrograde · 07/01/2025 18:25

Rebecca is a splendid name.

Briar sounds like the intern who drinks too much vodka at the work Christmas party and throws up in the stationery cupboard.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/01/2025 18:29

Although they’re hated on here hyphenated names are fine providing they fit well together.
Briar-Rebecca are 2 of the most unmatched names out there.
They don’t roll off the tongue by any stretch of the imagination. There’s too may B sounds and they both end in an A sound which makes it very harsh.

Mirabai · 07/01/2025 18:30

Briar is lovely. Briar-Rebecca is really odd. And 5 syllables. Why not Briar with Rebecca as a middle name.

BebbanburgIsMine · 07/01/2025 18:30

Both are beautiful names, I have a Rebecca, but the two names don't go together.

Briar Rose is beautiful too.

LostittoBostik · 07/01/2025 18:31

Briar is lovely. But it's a stand alone name. You can't start double barrelling it.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/01/2025 18:35

What about spelling it Bryher, like the Scilly Isles? I actually know a lad called Bryher, I think it's a great name. But not with the prosthetic Rebecca tacked on.

WooleyMunky · 07/01/2025 18:36

Call her what you like, she will be Becca/Becky from pre-school onwards.

GruffaloChildCrimbo · 07/01/2025 18:36

Briony is beautiful and not ubiquitous.

ChocoChocoLatte · 07/01/2025 18:39

Please not hyphenated. As the owner of a double barrelled first name it's been the bane of my life and it isn't as bad a combo as those two.

Briar first name fine

Rebecca middle name fine

Together - no

CrushingOnRubies · 07/01/2025 18:40

I love the name but prefer the spelling Bryher after the Isle of Scilly Island

Maurepas · 07/01/2025 18:43

NO -why oh why??

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 07/01/2025 18:45

wild bush no?

choccytime · 07/01/2025 18:46

Don't do it sounds pretentious

BenditlikeBridget · 07/01/2025 18:47

Thorn-Becki maybe?
