Thoughts on the name Briar-Rebecca, I have an incredibly boring name and am surrounded by siblings with unique names they love!
I think briar is beautiful and Rebecca is nice and classic if preferred could be used.
interested in others thoughts.
thanks

I prefer Briar Rebecca without the hyphen, and I think name has too much R... and bes. do you like another middle name? How about Briar Matilda?

MinnieCauldwell · 07/01/2025 17:34

Briar is an ugly, thorny hedge, why would you call your child that? Never got the love for Ivy it's an ugly creeping plant.

thomasinacat · 07/01/2025 17:34

First thought was briar is a thorny bush - ie prickly and unapproachable. Doesn't have the best connotations.

RupertCampbellBlacksEgo · 07/01/2025 17:35

No to the hyphen. The last R of Briar and the start of Rebecca sounds..not great. Can Briar be left as a middle name?

InkHeart2024 · 07/01/2025 17:35

Laughably awful, sorry

Moonshine5 · 07/01/2025 17:35

Doesn't work

PortiasBiscuit · 07/01/2025 17:36

Briar is pretty, Rebecca is pretty.
Pick one.. don’t be greedy.

coldcallerbaiter · 07/01/2025 17:37

I thought briar went with Rose, as it is ia wild rose tree. It does not go with Rebecca particularly.

How about Bryony instead?

Came here to say this.

Bryony Rebecca as first and middle name.

IfUCantDance · 07/01/2025 17:38

Reminds me of Brer Rabbit

PLHJ84 · 07/01/2025 17:39

No. Briar isn’t too bad on it’s own & but it doesn’t add well to other names especially not Rebecca - it’s too much of a mouthful. Rebecca is also fine on it’s own. I have a boring name i hate always hated (was loads of us at school & i know a lot of adults with it) BUT it’s better than something like that & whilst i deliberately chose less common names for my kids they all have nice, normal, heard of names!

Naming a person after sleeping beauty is cringey 😄

minipie · 07/01/2025 17:42

Briar is nice sounding, but spiky meaning, I still like it though

Rebecca is a nice, retro name, due a comeback IMO

Briar-Rebecca is a tongue twister pain in the arse name

Figgygal · 07/01/2025 17:43

Individually both fine
Together not good

littleluncheon · 07/01/2025 17:46

Briar Rose (from Sleeping Beauty) is better.

Neveragain35 · 07/01/2025 17:47

Both lovely names, but as a teacher I can tell you that with hyphenated names the second one almost always gets dropped off. So you may as well just stick to a first name and middle name!

Wooooah · 07/01/2025 17:47

Bryre is a nice spelling of it. I'd use Rebecca as a middle name as opposed to double-barrelled.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/01/2025 17:48

Needmorelego · 07/01/2025 17:16

As a first and middle name it's fine.
Not all as one name.

Agree.

WhiteReindeer · 07/01/2025 17:49

I like them without the hyphen

SeaDragon17 · 07/01/2025 17:50

Briar is one of the most popular spaniel names.

HotCrossBunplease · 07/01/2025 17:51

Anyone reading a handwritten Briar will read it as Brian!

You can’t have a hyphenated name where the first part ends in the same letter as the beginning of the second part. It’s physically too hard to say.

Joystir59 · 07/01/2025 17:51

Briar: if you don't expect her to go very far in life.
Briar-Rebecca: if you dislike her and don't want her to go very far in life
Rebecca: lovely name.

IsThePopeCatholic · 07/01/2025 17:52

Awful.

OurFlagMeansAfternoonTea · 07/01/2025 17:53

Without the hyphen is ok.

There was a girl at my daughter's school with two hyphenated 4 syllable names , like Theodora-Alexandra. So cumbersome and shit for the child.

Azandme · 07/01/2025 17:54

Patty78 · 07/01/2025 17:30

How rude. Fyi? Who even speaks like that?

It's true though... It's just a bit naff.

Particularly if you hyphenate first names AND surnames.
