Briar-Rebecca as name

Thoughts on the name Briar-Rebecca, I have an incredibly boring name and am surrounded by siblings with unique names they love!
I think briar is beautiful and Rebecca is nice and classic if preferred could be used.
interested in others thoughts.

As one first name it's rather clunky. Individually they are pretty.
As pp, Briony (first) Rebecca (middle) Surname goes nicely, as does Briony Rose Surname

If you love Briar as a first name then maybe -
Briar Leonie
Briar Celine
Briar Niamh
Briar Lily
Briar Collette

The other name meanings are true of course, but all of those are very well established names. Briar isn’t and that makes a difference imho. Where I am it’s not used as a name and either means a thorny shrub or a very bad tempered person. But, as I said already, I appreciate these things vary depending on where you are.

In any case I wouldn’t hyphenate it with Rebecca.

The idea of naming a child after a prickly shrub is hilarious to me. Are people thinking that a 'briar' is a 'briar rose'? It isn't, it could equally be a blackberry bush, or any kind of thorny growth.

It's like calling your baby Nettle or Knotweed.

Briar is a very old name and I think a beautiful one. It’s rarely used as a plant term now as as we have no reason think OP is in Ireland - local usage is not relevant.

It's a plant regardless! Or, in parts of the US, a derogatory term for a hillbilly/redneck.

Briar-Rebecca is a bit long. You could also consider the alternative spelling of Briar = Bryher - I've come across a couple of them in the south-west.

It’s too long. Are you expecting her to be called Briar-Rebecca at all times? I work with children and I haven’t got time in my life for that, it will get shortened immediately.

Briar Rose is the princess name! Blair has a similar feel.

No. I don’t like hyphenated names anyway but that is too long and doesn’t flow at all. You can’t put the two R sounds next to each other (BriaR Rebecca) so wouldn’t even have it as a first name and a middle name.

But I do really like Briar for a first name.

I said prickly not thorny - and it’s actually much more painful and more of a bugger to deal with than blackberries or sweet briar.

Are you for real? My cotoneaster is evil, but the holly is much easier to handle.

I have massive holly hedges along once fence and it sheds prickly leaves like buggery.

Honestly some of these replies have made me laugh out loud and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading them to my mum, who’s also not exactly a fan of the name. I will more than likely move on to another name now, mostly because I didn’t make the connection to Brian being so similar and I can’t un-see it.
Thank you for the laugh during a genuinely rough time, I’ll definitely be back at some point with another maybe slightly more conventional name to hear everyone’s opinions.

Surnames maybe. For first names it's chavvy not pretentious
