Oddest sibling set you've come across

I recently met a Tiger and a Bob. Primary aged brothers, both lovely kids.

I also went to school with Claire and her brother Zephyr, and with sisters Beatrice, Georgiana, Victoria and...Cindy. Not short for anything, just Cindy.

Any sib sets you've come across that just don't seem to fit?

I know twins called silver and gold. Then a woman with 5 daughters 1-4 have names I've never heard of before very unusual number 5 has one of the top 10 names from her birth year

Lochroy · 13/02/2024 23:54

Apparently unaware of the Roosevelts.

Boooooooooooo · 13/02/2024 23:54

Trinity and Neo - parents were big Matrix fans

Evan, Owen & Ieuan

What’s random about Evan, Owen and Ieuan?

jmh740 · 13/02/2024 23:56

Also have a friend called krystina with a brother called Christian both called Chris!

What’s random about Evan, Owen and Ieuan?

The spellings, I’d say?

The first two are Anglicised, the third Welsh.

Ifan, Owain and Ieuan wouldn’t raise any eyebrows as a sibset.

I always think it's odd when I see the Wayne and Colleen Rooneys kids - Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass - I wonder why Cass wasn't spelt with a K too!

I think that every time I see their names too!

I know a Cindy - for her it's short for Cinderella

🙈🙈🙈

MissSmiley · 14/02/2024 00:08

I knew brothers in the 70s called Wayne and Edward, so different and they both kind of lived up to their names

Ah thanks. I live near the English border so Evan, Owen and Ieuan would be quite a normal sibset here where people seem to have quite a mix of welsh and anglicised welsh names

Irish siblings

Niamh, Nuala, Owain, Aisling and …… Jayvon?

Orangestheonlyfruit · 14/02/2024 00:35

In our village in the 70s we had siblings Claudette and Claudia.
They then had a boy and disappointingly they didn't call him Claude.

I'm in Ireland - I'm often surprised when there's a mixture of very Irish names ... & not!

My DC all have very Irish names, fadas & 'dh's galore, it would seem so strange to me to have a non-Irish name there. My DSis has 4 - one with a Germanic-English name and the other 3 with very Irish and not common names. Not that I'd ask or comment!

One of my sil's family has a Fiacra, Sadhbh, Donnacha and Amelie. I think it just sits oddly, but hey ho, their children to name.

Went to school with a Paul and Paula.

The legend of Paul and Paula is the title of a film made in the GDR ca. 1974, which was censored for its hippieish vibes. After a book of same name by an East German author.

It was brought back into cinemas after 1990, and quite popular for a bit. I remember it fondly.

I've always thought the queen's choices of Ann followed by Andrew were a bit too similar.

Andrew is a shite name for a royal too.

Orangestheonlyfruit · 14/02/2024 00:43

Next door neighbours with 4 boys, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John but not born in that order.

xxwinterxx · 14/02/2024 00:43

Through my work I came across twin brothers called Shayde and Shayden. The identical birthdate and near identical names caused them to be mistaken by someone doing admin as one person... confusion ensued!

ScruffMuffin · 14/02/2024 00:44

I'm not a fan of matchy names, and particularly dislike the very common practice of giving all siblings the same initial. I mean, two is potentially a coincidence, but 3+ is a bit silly.

Having said that, many parents seem to ho for names with a similar vibe in terms of popularity/ length/ meaning, or nature/ traditional/ modern.

The combination that most surprised me has been two brothers called River and Simon.

I know another family with three children who have very popular, traditional, old-fashioned names, similar to Olivia, George and Florence. Then they called their fourth child Juniper.

AutumnOcean · 14/02/2024 00:55

I know of three siblings names with the same initial, same amount of letters and same sound at the end of their names. I would get so confused 😬

Henry and Harriet go well together, to my ear?

It’s the same name though

KyleWalkersLibido · 14/02/2024 01:22

Oli, Molly, Holly and Chris

TerriPie · 14/02/2024 01:32

Melanie, Melissa and Marissa.

Melanie and Marissa not related to each other but both a half sibling to Melissa.

Was very confusing

Rosieleerose · 14/02/2024 01:39

Twins called Atlanta and Ocean.

coxesorangepippin · 14/02/2024 01:40

I know sisters who are Lea and Leah

Elspethelf · 14/02/2024 03:21

Mine! Eldest has an Arabic name, youngest has a name from Roman mythology.
