Oddest sibling set you've come across

I recently met a Tiger and a Bob. Primary aged brothers, both lovely kids.

I also went to school with Claire and her brother Zephyr, and with sisters Beatrice, Georgiana, Victoria and...Cindy. Not short for anything, just Cindy.

Any sib sets you've come across that just don't seem to fit?

I'm going for Ophelia and Casey 😂

I was thinking Ophelia and Taylor.

Simon, Angela, Daniel, Zeke and Paul. The mind boggles!

I don't think this is the oddest combination, they're all Christian names. Daniel, Simon, Paul, Zeke (Ezekiel) are all biblical figures. While Angela is from Angelos meaning messenger of God.

Primary school in Manchester siblings Miri and Amiri - surname Cull.

If you want to check this is real google him - he committed a violent crime and is in prison for a long time.

It’s the same name though

I’m not sure how that glaringly obvious fact completely bypassed me 😅

You’re quite right, that is odd!

Enko · 14/02/2024 13:10

HJ40 · 14/02/2024 09:13

@Enko But if they are Swedish then that is completely normal - both normal female names. (E.g. Britt Ekland).

No Swedish. Danish and Britt is actually rather unusual in Denmark where as Christina is not. (Similar to Christina in thre UK known but perhaps not a lot of them) I am Danish by birth myself.

Again it is more about the fact i feel the names are not that well matched not because I dislike either name.

smilingeleanor · 14/02/2024 13:50

4 sisters.. all really classic names (think Anna, Emily) but the youngest is called Rae..

Rae is a classic girls name, it's just fallen out of use.

I always find the Henry / Harry debate strange (and Henry and Harriet are not technically the same name as one is the feminine)

I know that Henry / Harry is the same name but to me they just aren't the same name iyswim? I wouldn't speak to someone called Harry and wonder if he is actually a Henry on his birth certificate (or vice versa).

Same with James and Jamie. I would argue until the death** that they are not the same name.

** slight over exaggeration there.

My contribution is the family with Jonah, Judah, Josiah and Billy (not William)

Longdarkcloud · 14/02/2024 20:52

@SemperIdem Yex, sounds ok but really it’s the male and female version of the same name and shows a lack of imagination. It also rather limits Henry in adopting a nn because then they’d be Harry and Harriet. Though they could come to an arrangement and the girl could call herself Henrietta!

Rae always makes me think of the name Raymond which brings fifty/ sixty year old men to mind. To me it's like naming a little girl Brian or John. I can't remove the association with Ray/Raymond.

AmyandPhilipfan · 14/02/2024 21:46

I think it must be fairly common for people who have settled in a different country to name later children traditional names from that country. At my primary school there was a Chinese family and the two older sisters (born not long after they settled here) had Chinese names. A few years later they had a boy and called him Robert - apparently the sisters insisted he get an English name. As far as I know they weren't bullied over their names but I suppose they must have felt 'different' from the other kids and didn't want that for their brother.

I know 4 sisters who seem to have 2 distinctly different types of names.
1 and 3 are Elizabeth and Victoria
2 and 4 are Aleesha and Lilah

it’s always fascinated me.

I know a set of twins called Kathy and Katie
and another pair of sisters Cathryn and Katie.

FayCarew · 15/02/2024 14:03

2 sisters with names that are anagrams of each other, like Anita and Tania. The y aren't twins and the othe rsiblings don't have similar names.

onlythebrave3 · 16/02/2024 11:10

Sisters Emelia and Ellie. I thought the younger just got the elders nickname.

Sisters Megan and Chloe whose mum then had an affair with her gardener and had a baby sister Rainbow.

Sisters called Kacy-Mae and Kayleigh and 4 dogs all with K names then a little brother Ben.

It's odd that they are so boring.

Attictroll · 16/02/2024 12:28

In my sons toddler group siblings Max and mini

MrsNowAndAlways · 16/02/2024 12:31

I don't know them, but I'm currently doing my family tree and found 3 brothers Thomas, Henry and their brother.....Septimus! It doesn't even appear to be a family name handed down, just a random addition!

Blingismything · 16/02/2024 16:54

Lady Gleconner had twins, Amy and May, and chose the names because they were anagrams. I always thought that was quite nice, two distinct names, but linked.

FayCarew · 16/02/2024 18:13

@Riverlee , the ones I mentioned aren't twins and there are other siblings. I did think of Lady Glenconner's daughters when thinking of example names.
I didn't want to give the actual names but they are more alike than Anita and Tania, More like Rona and Nora.
As a set of siblings they're something like Ezra, Nora, Myles and Rona.

(not the actual names but that sort of pattern)
