Oddest sibling set you've come across

IamaRevenant · 13/02/2024 16:58

I recently met a Tiger and a Bob. Primary aged brothers, both lovely kids.

I also went to school with Claire and her brother Zephyr, and with sisters Beatrice, Georgiana, Victoria and...Cindy. Not short for anything, just Cindy.

Any sib sets you've come across that just don't seem to fit?

I once worked with a woman called Melissa, who had an identical twin sister called Melanie. That always seemed like an odd decision for the parents to make.

I'm closely related to 2 sets of twins born < 1960. It was normal then to expect them to have matching names. I'm not using real names, but imagine Shelly & Kelly, Tom & Terri, or triplets called Julie, Joanne and Judy.

Still not using real names, but I know a lady has 5 DDs close-ish in age, they looked like clones of each other, called them Alice, Annie, Amy, Sarah and Ashley. I always wondered how Sarah felt. All brunettes except Ashley. I always thought the blonde should have the name that didn't match the pattern, too.

Last one should have been Aria.

They dropped a ball there.

Exactly what I said!

PatchworkElmer · 14/02/2024 05:57

I know half siblings called Laura and Lauren.

I know sisters who are Lea and Leah

What? Isn't that the same name but spelt differently??

Enko · 14/02/2024 07:23

I have a friend Britt her sister is Christina while I like both names I always thought it was a odd combination.

Kinds from 2 different name styles I guess.

madderthanahatter · 14/02/2024 07:41

An Indian family in our school had the first two with traditional Indian names, think Pooja, Aarti and then.... Sean (as in the Irish Sean). Everyone talked about it for a long time after he was born!

As in Brittney and Christina?? They obviously go together is a Disney channel world!

IMakeCrapCakes · 14/02/2024 07:50

Star (female) and Jacob.

ItLiterallyJustSaysFoldInTheCheese · 14/02/2024 07:56

The pairing that always makes me laugh:

Peter & Paul.

They're 8 year old twins.

madderthanahatter · 14/02/2024 08:00

Reece, Ryan and Etunde, which is apparently Wednesday (day of child's birth) in an African language.

@imnotthatkindofmum

Not Brittany that would kinda fit. My friends name is simply Britt. Her sisters is Christina. They are also not British (Scandinavian) my friend is in her mid 50s sister early 50s.

I like both names but for a sibling set I find them oddly matched. They are close though and Christina is lovely when I've met her.

I know a family where the mum had all her dc’s names come to her in a dream whilst pregnant with each of them. Except the last child where she had no dream so gave them the same name as the previous child (think Georgina and George).

When I lived in Africa I knew a family who had a daughter and named her the name meaning “first born daughter”, the second was named “second born daughter”, the third was named “not another daughter”. Always felt a bit sorry for her. I also knew someone called “child with no name”.

Another sibling set have names which when put together make up their parents’ country of origin.

HJ40 · 14/02/2024 09:13

@Enko But if they are Swedish then that is completely normal - both normal female names. (E.g. Britt Ekland).

Sandysandwich · 14/02/2024 09:22

Annabel, Isobel, Arabella and Brian

I know!! I honestly couldn’t believe it!! I worked with the family for the first few months when the babies were born and I always hoped that the parents somewhere down the line realised & changed the names

D3LAN3Y · 14/02/2024 09:56

Know two sets of twins called Natalie & Nathan, Axel & Alex.

Know a very biblical named set of sibs of Jonah, Noah, Ruth and then the baby is called Joy. To be fair she was a surprise baby and she is always smiling and happy.

Adooree · 14/02/2024 10:03

When I young in our street we had a family who named their children Martin , Mark , Marie , Melanie & Melissa .

Bin85 · 14/02/2024 10:31

Alan,Brenda,Claire and David.
Then a similar family but A,B,D and E. I don't know for sure what happened to C but it makes me feel sad.
I also knew someone who consistently referred to his as 1,2,3,4 and 5.

Wannabegreenfingers · 14/02/2024 10:36

I also don't understand the whole naming your children with the first letter or names that go with x & y. You are naming an individual. Choose a sensible name that you like, and the child isn't going to forever have to spell or explain how to pronounce.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 14/02/2024 10:39

Three sisters - Scarlet, Ruby and Sienna.
Nice names, bit of a theme.

Then they had a baby brother. Lots of people expecting him to have a "red" name. Rufus? Aidan? Redmond?

No - he was (is) Patrick. Although he does have red hair! (None of his sisters do)

ScruffMuffin · 14/02/2024 11:02

I know a family with four girls, A B C and D. I think the first two were just names they liked, but then they carried on reproducing and carried on the theme. All long, frilly names as well, similar to Anastasia, Brianna, Cecilia, Danniella.

rooftopbird · 14/02/2024 11:21

I when to school with an Amber, Jade and Taryn, unfortunately they were known as the traffic light family.
