Im due ds2 at the end on april, and me and dp cant decide on a name. I like the older names like Jack, but everyones called that, and Jake, Oliver, Josh, and have a son (3yrs) called Alex. But dp isnt his dad, so had no say in his name.
Dp likes 'wierd' names like Sole (no, its a baby, not a fish dp!), and Chester (dog), and the only name we can remotely agree on is Dylan, but family members have commented that maybe its a bit 'common', and in chavish (please dont shout at me for using that word, I cant think of another that would explain what I mean).
So, is it?

Dylan isn't chavvy at all I really like it What about Max?

Taweret · 18/03/2008 18:38

I love the name Dylan.
Reminds me of Dylan Thomas.
And The Magic Roundabout!

stepfordwife · 18/03/2008 18:38

liking dylan

OverMyDeadBody · 18/03/2008 18:39

I don't think it is solely a 'common' name tbh. It makes me think of the poet.

themildmanneredbunny · 18/03/2008 18:39

dylan a bit of a scally name i think

Miggsie · 18/03/2008 18:39

It's not chavish, but it is a bit, er um...Welsh?

WanderingTrolley · 18/03/2008 18:40

I think it's a Welsh name.

Novicecamper · 18/03/2008 18:41

I think it's a bit 'scally' too

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 18:41

Just not a 'real' sort of name (imho)

Alastair
Benedict
Charlie
David
Edward
Frankie
George
Harry
Ivan
Joe

collision · 18/03/2008 18:43

definitely Welsh!!!!!

NorthernLurker · 18/03/2008 18:43

I think Dylan is ok. What about Seth - that's an old name but with a bit more of a modern zinng to it? Or my really way out name for a boy is Orlando. Dh was very keen on that for our last, me less so. She was a girl anyway

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 18:44

you mad lol

it is welsh

and it is my dgs name

themildmanneredbunny · 18/03/2008 18:46

if you like jack then call him jack. who cares if other people are called it? loads of kids are caled dylan and it's not even a nice name!

WanderingTrolley · 18/03/2008 18:47

Will dp go for Jacques? Giacomo? Something you can surrepticiously shorten to Jack later?

A good technique is to wail when he is born "Oh but he just looks like a Jack - can we can we pleeeeease?" Your dp will be very vulnerable to babyname guilt attack at that point I have know women have success with this technique. Good luck!

UncleBulgaria · 18/03/2008 18:47

in Welsh it is pronounced "Dull-an" not "dilan".

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 18:47

tmmb!!!

RosemaryBoxer · 18/03/2008 18:48

i think it is a lovely name

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 18:48

WT - that might just be my new plan actually!! But I dont want ds to be called the same as everyone else.

OP posts:
themildmanneredbunny · 18/03/2008 18:48

what?
i absolutely do not get this 'i like this name but i hearsd someone else call their kid it' thing. so what? a child is unique because of who he is not because what he's called.

ScoobyDoo · 18/03/2008 18:49

Dylan reminds me of a dogs name, my parents had a great dane called Dylan !

I think you should go for the name Jack, i love the name could not use it for my own son as have a couson called jack, i also love Josh & oliver.

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 18:50

But a class full of 10 Jacks is a bit clone-ish.
