Im due ds2 at the end on april, and me and dp cant decide on a name. I like the older names like Jack, but everyones called that, and Jake, Oliver, Josh, and have a son (3yrs) called Alex. But dp isnt his dad, so had no say in his name.
Dp likes 'wierd' names like Sole (no, its a baby, not a fish dp!), and Chester (dog), and the only name we can remotely agree on is Dylan, but family members have commented that maybe its a bit 'common', and in chavish (please dont shout at me for using that word, I cant think of another that would explain what I mean).
So, is it?

UncleBulgaria have you met MadameCHOlet?

There are now two mners who are wombles and, I think, one called womble.

themildmanneredbunny · 18/03/2008 18:51

but in what schools are there classes wherew all the kids are called jack? you might get one or 2 but so what?

there are 2 kais and 2 kians in my sons class and they are meant to be 'unusual' names

Miggsie · 18/03/2008 18:52

Why Jack?
Why do you want to call him by a diminutive?
And there seem to be so many of them...and you can't really differentiate between all teh Jacks as you cannot shorten an already shortened name...?
I think you need different but not bizarre

Pavlovthecat · 18/03/2008 18:52

not chavvy at all. I like it a lot.

cupsoftea · 18/03/2008 18:53

FrannyandZooey · 18/03/2008 18:57

I think it is getting more popular, if that affects your decision

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 18:57

Can anyone think of any names that are slightly different? But not wierd?

OP posts:
RosemaryBoxer · 18/03/2008 18:58

My favourite boys' name is Rowan, which dd2 would have been if she hadn't have been dd! I think it's a bit tree-huggy but gorgeous.

Other slightly different but not weird names might be:

Reuben
Gabriel
Oscar
Joel

Janni · 18/03/2008 19:02

Am feeling a bit sorry for mums of children called Dylan reading this thread

janeite · 18/03/2008 19:02

Sole is so awful - I'm sorry!

RosemaryBoxer · 18/03/2008 19:03

dgs dad wanted him to be called g

BearMama · 18/03/2008 19:04

I wanted to call my DD Dylan as a middle name - DP is a writer so obvious Dylan Thomas connotations but decided not to as BF told me it was one of the most popular names this year. I still like it tho!

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 19:04

Janeite - hes wierd, isnt he?! Sole, my bum!
Our dog is called Oscar.

RBoxer - didn't know that!

Pavlovthecat · 18/03/2008 19:05

I like Reuben (sp) but think it might be a bit more common now?

Roan (or Rohan) is nice too.

Flubdub · 18/03/2008 19:06

Is Hayden scallyish?

My dh wanted to call Dd2 Pepper...
