Michael for a girl

DP has been set on Michael for a boy for this and our last pregnancy, however each time the baby has been a girl. I'm due shortly and we still dont have a name. I was watching Derry Girls which has Sister Michael it and I've actually started thinking I really like it for a girl. Is this just my hormones making me go mental?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
piglet81 · 31/05/2023 15:07

Don’t do it. Would you want to be a woman called Michael?

LadyWiddiothethird · 31/05/2023 15:08

Yes it’s the hormones, lol. What about Michaela?

SmokeMeAKipper79 · 31/05/2023 15:09

Don't do it! While it is a lovely name, it's a nightmare being a girl with a boys name growing up.

Kimchikeffir · 31/05/2023 15:09

Michael wouldn’t be a nun’s real name , she would have taken a saints name. As a courtesy. She’s probably still Maude to her friends

CurlewKate · 31/05/2023 15:10

Only if you're prepared to call your son Emily.

tova · 31/05/2023 15:10

I think you're right, it's definitely the hormones...

I'm don't mind Michaela but not 100% about it.

Yes it is just your hormones and you would be mental to name your daughter Michael. Glad you've come to your senses!

Maireas · 31/05/2023 15:13

Please don't.
Michaela, Mica, Misha perhaps?
Nuns take the name of a saint, male or female. I was taught by a Sister Thomas.

Quitelikeit · 31/05/2023 15:14

What?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, I'm starting to think the same now! 😅

I really wouldn't. My nickname growing up was Michael (long story) and it was so embarrassing when my dad called me that in front of my friends. I can't imagine how it would feel as your actual name

Chowtime · 31/05/2023 15:15

I'm quite shocked that people don't know nuns names aren't their real names.

Berlinlover · 31/05/2023 15:16

I was taught by a Sr Gregory, Sr Anthony and Sr Pius - not their real names but the names of saints.

JaneJeffer · 31/05/2023 15:16

The actress who played Olivia Walton is called Michael Learned. And the bass player in The Bangles is called Michael Steele.

Funnily enough I was actually raised Catholic (no longer practising) but we never really had much to do with nuns at school or church, just priests so I genuinely didn't know.

PictureConsequences · 31/05/2023 15:18

Yes I was going to mention Michael out of The Bangles! But probably ok in LA, less so in Swindon (or wherever you live).

ThatFraggle · 31/05/2023 15:18

Don't set your kid up to be a weirdo.

WaltzingWaters · 31/05/2023 15:18

No way! Please don’t do that to your daughter.

Maybe Michaela, Misha, Mica, Michelle?

JaneJeffer · 31/05/2023 15:19

Harsh

CurlewKate · 31/05/2023 15:19

I had a Sr Mary Maximilian and a Sr Mary Sebastian. They are all called Mary first

Lisbeth50 · 31/05/2023 15:19

What's wrong with Michaela? Or Michelle or Misha?

Maireas · 31/05/2023 15:19

Yes, I read about how difficult Miss Michael Learned found it, and why credits always used "Miss".

CurlewKate · 31/05/2023 15:20

I see no reason why anyone with no connection to the Catholic Church should know anything about the habits (see what I did there?) or lifestyle of nuns....

Lavenderflower · 31/05/2023 15:21

What about the female/jewish version of Michael, Michal.

JaneJeffer · 31/05/2023 15:21

I'm surprised she didn't change it then@Maireas lots of actors name change like Marion Morrison did Grin
