What would you say is the peak mumsnet baby name? What would Ms ‘tinkly laugh/no is a full sentence’ call her PFB?

I think I’m correct in saying:

girl: Elspeth (always suggested, why?!)
boy: Jago

i came on to say Ottilie and Kit.
where does the Balonz thing come from? I think I missed the source of that!

LookAtThatRedSheep · 29/12/2022 21:30

Oi!

I have an Elspeth. I don’t tinkly laugh, more of a witchy cackle.

times must have changed as when I asked for opinions on here I was told it was ‘wet’

I’d say Atticus and Artemis

Bumpsadaisie · 29/12/2022 21:31

Rory and Martha

DramaAlpaca · 29/12/2022 21:31

Thea and Rory. Suggested all the time on here.

Seraphina

Percy

UnsureAndUnsteady · 29/12/2022 21:45

A girl at DDs previous school was called this and they always said “our” in front of it! So… “Our Ottilie is just soooooooo committed to her homework” in reception!

Hebe. Only ever read it on here, never heard in real life. To me sounds like the heebie jeebies.

Yes!!
also Harriet, daphne, Clara, Christina !

I like most of these and we have a lot of them at our nursery! I like to think I am peak mumsnet but alas DD’s name hasn’t featured yet. I feel the need to take to my bed and wallow in self pity…..

Same! Although I don't live in or anywhere near North London. (6 hours away in fact!)

silverclock222 · 29/12/2022 22:18

Any name that is planned along with a nickname e.g. Clementine (Clemmie), Rupert (Ru-ru), Oliver (Olly). Who gives a child a name for it to have a nickname - seems very strange to me.

Laurakiaora · 29/12/2022 22:31

Caspian and Irene seem to crop up on loads of people's baby names lists, or in lists of suggestions to others.

Both hideous.

misslucy92 · 29/12/2022 22:41

I haven’t been here long but I feel like many mumsnetters suggest their own names (without saying so) or claim that they will come back into style soon even though they’ve recently gone out of style and won’t be back for a while. Examples: Laura, Sarah, Stephanie, Amanda.

I mean they are lovely for sure just not the height of fashion.

Then they always suggest long forms and classics so that the child will have options and something proper like Katherine, Elizabeth etc.

I always find that a bit odd. If I had been called Kitty all my life I probably wouldn’t see Katherine as an option but more of a burden because it just wouldn’t feel like me.

Thank you! This completely passed me by

Arlo

@Y7drama
You're very welcome! It's a joyous read!

I'd murder my parents if they had called me Persephone. Poor kid.

My little sister had a doll called Persephone, a name suggested by our mother. All I remember about her is that her head came off and you could then use her body as a water pistol (the doll I mean!)

AmyandPhilipfan · 29/12/2022 22:56

Ha, my daughter's name has been mentioned in this thread and I've always thought it goes well with Ottilie if I'd had another! I'm not sure I'm a peak mumsnetter though!

Sodullincomparison · 29/12/2022 23:02

Yep- DD’s name has shown up.

you guys are too good at this!!!

SaintLoy · 29/12/2022 23:04

Why do people need validation of their name choices? Just don't choose a 'surname' (like Jackson, Brandon, etc) for a boy, stick to saint's names, job's a good 'un.

😐 awkward

mathanxiety · 29/12/2022 23:48

It's got to be Imogen for a girl, the clunkiest and most unattractive name ever, followed closely by Verity, which rhymes with ferrety.

For boys, Sebastian.

Not sure about the runner up in the boy category, but it is not Luckey-Buoy.

TheBirdintheCave · 29/12/2022 23:51

@SaintLoy I actually know a child named Persephone in real life. She's American. Oddly her little sister has an ordinary popular name, think Sophia or Isabella.

Rickandmortified100 · 29/12/2022 23:55

Definitely Clementine

countrysidebliss · 29/12/2022 23:58

It's 💯 Wren or Maeve for a girl. Cassius or Lysander for a boy!
