What would you say is the peak mumsnet baby name? What would Ms ‘tinkly laugh/no is a full sentence’ call her PFB?

I think I’m correct in saying:

girl: Elspeth (always suggested, why?!)
boy: Jago

Alto

AfterSchoolWorry · 30/12/2022 00:07

Rupert and Matilda nn Rupes and Tilly.

Xmasgrinchywinchy · 30/12/2022 00:08

Anything that’s very English with no recognition that we live in a multi cultural society and the baby absolutely must have a long version of their name which nobody will ever use or even tell them it’s their name until they’re 18 and find a copy of their birth certificate and think they have a long lost twin who died at birth because they’ve never heard of anyone in their family with that name

AlphaAlpha · 30/12/2022 00:13

Manon and hepzibah.

babyjellyfish · 30/12/2022 01:38

Came here to say Ottilie. Horrible name.

Splcam · 30/12/2022 02:04

As someone who recently suggested Clelia and Ottilie as names for kids (3 syllables! It was a very specific brief!) I feel a bit contrite, now.

About 20 years ago, I told my husband our first daughter would be called Suzanne as with his surname (withheld as obvs identifying) she would be nails in school. And I liked Shaun as it was a bit 70s speedway.

But...I'm barren so it's all hypothetical now.

Call your children whatever you want guys, just remember you are lucky to have them! 🙂

BluebellsareBlue · 30/12/2022 02:07

It's balonz, surely??

BluebellsareBlue · 30/12/2022 02:08

Dammit, didn't task the full thread, sorry

Weepachu · 30/12/2022 02:30

I know the following:

Artemis
Amedeus
Apollo
Atticus
Aurelia
Persephone
Ottilie (Zoella named her baby this, might explain the rise in popularity, although I can see it going downmarket now).

Live in a very mumsnetty area. But Ptolemy cannot be for real 😂

Trez1510 · 30/12/2022 03:36

Arlo/Jago/Hugo

Wren/Elodie/Flora

Penguinsaregreat · 30/12/2022 10:59

Jago or Hugo.
Ottilie or Persephone

AudTheDeepMinded · 30/12/2022 11:07

Two of my DC's names mentioned and I know a Ptolomy. Feel like I truly belong.

Firebird83 · 30/12/2022 11:08

I came on to say Ottilie and Kit!

Both of my dcs names have been mentioned. One of them has one of those long classic names with lots of nicknames, haha.

TeaAndStrumpets · 30/12/2022 11:08

Lubrusia or Laundrée

TheYummyPatler · 30/12/2022 11:16

I’d say Ptolemy and Kit for boys.

For girls, something with 4000 syllables that will be described as ‘timeless’.

Purplemagnolias · 30/12/2022 16:51

There were ZERO babies named Ptolemy in 2021, according to Darkgreener.

So there can't be many of them out there!!

Purplemagnolias · 30/12/2022 16:52

And only 4 babies named Ptolemy in 2020.

TheYummyPatler · 30/12/2022 16:55

I don’t think being the sort of name people actually want to use in real life is part of the criteria for a really MN name.

PicturesOfDogs · 30/12/2022 20:17

SaintLoy · 29/12/2022 23:04

Why do people need validation of their name choices? Just don't choose a 'surname' (like Jackson, Brandon, etc) for a boy, stick to saint's names, job's a good 'un.

I quite like surnames as first names 😂Tucker, Archer, yep - Jackson!
I also quite like the American type ‘jock’ names that get derided on here like Greyson, Blake, Logan, Cory etc.

Therunecaster · 30/12/2022 20:25

Mushroo · 29/12/2022 19:37

Christopher nickname Kit (I’ve never heard this in real life).

Ottilie

My partner is this but his Mom is American and Kit is more common there apparently

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 30/12/2022 20:29

Balonz, of course.

But to answer your question seriously, I always see Thaddeus and Celeste mentioned here and I’ve never met a child with either name.

TheFormidableMrsC · 30/12/2022 20:30

Headabovetheparakeet · 29/12/2022 19:39

Ottilie.

Literally never come across one in real life, or even heard someone mention it as a potential name for their baby.

I know somebody with an Ottalie!

FartWrangler · 30/12/2022 20:53

'Ottalie' is proof that some names go downmarket very quickly. The name Ottilie (pronounced O-teel-y-a, i.e. with four syllables) is lovely. The name Otterly is a bit like Shardonnay was in the 90s.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 30/12/2022 21:16

Ottilie rendered as ‘otterly’ and not a single person has yet demanded ‘WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THE R FROM?’

This place is changing.

These days I don't dare challenge anyone's spelling in case I get told off for disrespecting their diversity or they run off sobbing to start a Mumsnet thread. A kid called Otterly would surely get nicknamed Tarka?
