My sister kind of stole my baby name :(

I told my sister a few months back that I really liked the name Judah for a boy. We were both expecting boys but she was dead set on calling her baby boy River so I thought I was on safe ground telling her my choice. Anyway she just came out of hospital and announced out tof the blu that her baby was to be Jude. I am completely gobsmacked and quite upset to be honest but I'm not prepared to cause a massive fuss and a fall out over a name. Anyway just wanted some advice, would you still call your baby Judah if your sister had named their baby Jude? Or do you all think I should just bow out graciously and go with my second choice which is Josiah or my hubby's first choice which is Theodore/Theo/Teddy?
Bushkin · 01/11/2021 22:23
Theodore is a much nicer name.
Knifeandfawkes · 01/11/2021 22:24
Your sister is a dick.
Go with your husband's choice, it's lovely.
DuchessSilver · 01/11/2021 22:25
Josiah is a much nicer name
bekindbekindbekind · 01/11/2021 22:25
I would go with Theodore as well
MrsWidgerysLodger · 01/11/2021 22:25
@DuchessSilver
Oh! I so rarely hear the name Josiah and it's just gorgeous. ❤️
Lightswitch123 · 01/11/2021 22:26
Agreed!!! Your sister is a dick!
Chattycatty · 01/11/2021 22:26
Theodore is lovely
SatsumaPumpkinFace · 01/11/2021 22:26
Do not change the name you want. Your sister is a bitch. I assume you’ve asked her why she called her DS that?
Crumblinginside · 01/11/2021 22:26
She was really mean to do that. But being honest I prefer Theo or Josiah. Lovely names.
LolaSmiles · 01/11/2021 22:27
I know nobody owns a name, but she's being unreasonable.
Josiah is a much nicer name though imo
IAmSantaOhYesIAm · 01/11/2021 22:27
I prefer Josiah to Judah anyway! Or actually Joseph is even better!
I know everyone says you dont own a name and they’re right but I’d be miffed too op if my sister did that to me.
Josiah (or Joseph) has the nn Joe which is lovely for a teen - very cool vibe! Not so many nn options with Jude or Judah.
hotmeatymilk · 01/11/2021 22:27
Josiah for your baby, Judas for your sister
ChaosMoon · 01/11/2021 22:27
Josiah is my favourite of the three, though all are lovely. Your sister has not been kind.
ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 01/11/2021 22:28
your sister is a twat
I'd find it very hard not to sing "Hey Jude" to her every time we speak from now on, just to piss her off (I think at least for a year)
I'd go with Theodore Judah
Crumblinginside · 01/11/2021 22:28
Other similar names
Reuben
Nathaniel
Simeon
Levi
DramaAlpaca · 01/11/2021 22:29
It wasn't nice of her, but I honestly think she's done you a favour.
We don't have the same taste in names but your other options are much better.
SteggySawUs · 01/11/2021 22:29
Josiah is fab, or what about Jonah?
RavingAnnie · 01/11/2021 22:29
What a horrible thing for her to do. Sympathies.
campion · 01/11/2021 22:29
Josiah.
Theodore's a bit of a mouthful, which is what I'd be tempted to give your sister!
Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 01/11/2021 22:31
Wow you sister is a massive dick!
When is you baby due?
I love Josiah it is a fabulous name. Theo is nice too.
Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 01/11/2021 22:31
Ah that's not nice op, id be disappointed too. Have you asked her about it?
I actually prefer Josiah or Theodore (though that's very popular where I am, if that bothers you). Josiah is gorgeous
sharkan · 01/11/2021 22:34
Go with Theodore I have a Theodore shortened to Ted/Teddy, your sister is a cow.
LittlePearl · 01/11/2021 22:34
I'd stick with Judah if it is your absolute favourite, though the alternatives you mention are nice names. And if your sister has assumed you'd bottle and go for something else you shouldn't give her the satisfaction!
Some members of our extended family have duplicate names all over the place and no one seems bothered.
nettytree · 01/11/2021 22:36
I was going to be called Julie, but then my aunt had a girl and called her Julia. Lucky escape for me there.
Luckingfovely · 01/11/2021 22:39
I agree - she's a bitch, but I also think your other two choices are much nicer, so look upon it as a blessing in disguise!
