My other half and I have loved the name Elvie long before I was pregnant. I'm due a baby girl early January and this name was locked in, we had even started calling my bump Elvie. Unfortunately the other night I stumbled across a pelvic floor toner and breast pump brand with the same name. I'm absolutely gutted and not sure we can call her this anymore, but no other name we like comes close :( Can I have your opinions please?

It's not a particularly nice name regardless...

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:15

@Thisismytimetoshine maybe not to you, but to us it is, thanks.

I've never heard of it and I doubt many other people have either. I don't like the name though.

JanewaysBun · 29/08/2020 21:16

It's also the current "big thing" in breast pumps so it will be weird for a year for 2. Maybe it won't be so bad in a few years??

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:16

@JM10 in all honesty if you don't like that name you probably won't like the rest of our list either. I'm not asking for opinions on the name, more opinions on the situation

Agree with pp, there are far nicer names. It sounds more of a nickname.

Dinosauraddict · 29/08/2020 21:18

As soon as I hear Elvie I immediately think of the breast pump, sorry. I know a few mum friends who have the Elvie pumps. I definitely wouldn't call my child that any time soon...

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:18

@JanewaysBun arghh exactly, the business has been running for a few good years now so I doubt it will be going away 🙈

I actually think the name Elvie is really cute and I had no idea about the toner/pump so I feel like not many would associate it with that xx

wishing3 · 29/08/2020 21:19

Never heard of the pump and toner-I’d go for it and wouldn’t be concerned about associations at all. Plus it’s a lovely name.

Oriflamme · 29/08/2020 21:19

What about Elvira? Could then shorten to Elvie if you liked.

I think I saw and Elfie once - not quite my personal taste but it is quite similar to Elvie!

I actually like Elvie, FWIW. it’s a real shame you don’t feel you can use it now!

Mamette · 29/08/2020 21:19

I know a little 4 year old Elvie and she’s very sweet, suits her name perfectly.

DS1 has a name that is on a type of bread. I don’t care, I was mildly miffed when I realised but really, brands last a few years but your DD will have her name forever.

Plus I’m a mother of 3 and I’ve never heard of the Elvie brand and I’m sure lots of other people haven’t either.

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:19

@Dinosauraddict yeah you're confirming my fears 😂

It's not an attractive name at all. It's like a nn for Elvis. Sorry, but it's not good.

Oriflamme · 29/08/2020 21:19

An* Elfie not and

Giraffey1 · 29/08/2020 21:19

Think you’ll find opinions on the situation are pretty closely entwined with opinions on the name!

I have never heard of the name but wouldn’t want my baby to have the same name as a breast pump brand...

Veterinari · 29/08/2020 21:20

Reminds me of Elvive, the shampoo brand

Serenschintte · 29/08/2020 21:20

What about Eve? Similar. Or Evelyn and shorten to Evie?

purpleme12 · 29/08/2020 21:21

Mmm I have heard of Elvie from advertisements on Facebook I think but only heard of breast pump. So while that is what I think of when I hear that name I don't think it's a household name either which must make a difference

I think you could get away with it

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:22

@Oriflamme if you have seen the film Elvira mistress of the dark you wouldn't suggest this 😂 I like Elvira, but it just reminds me of the character too much!

Oneandabean · 29/08/2020 21:22

I’ve never heard of it. But I wouldn’t really worry, there’s loads of names you can associate with brands but people rarely do. E.g. eve mattress/ Victoria plum/ Lily’s kitchen/ tommee tippee.

RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp · 29/08/2020 21:22

I’ve never heard of it as anything other than a name. I had an aunt Elvie, it really suited her and I think it’s pretty!

Inkpaperstars · 29/08/2020 21:22

Not heard of the products, most people won't have.

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:23

@Serenschintte my OH grandmother is called Evelyn unfortunately, thank you for the suggestion though

SuddenArborealStop · 29/08/2020 21:23

I knew which toner you meant but I wouldn't hear the childs name and associate it
