My other half and I have loved the name Elvie long before I was pregnant. I'm due a baby girl early January and this name was locked in, we had even started calling my bump Elvie. Unfortunately the other night I stumbled across a pelvic floor toner and breast pump brand with the same name. I'm absolutely gutted and not sure we can call her this anymore, but no other name we like comes close :( Can I have your opinions please?

I like Elvie and I wouldn’t associate it with a pelvic floor toner.

LifeOfBriony · 29/08/2020 21:24

I haven't heard of the breast pump brand so wouldn't associate the name with the brand. But I think you will find that a lot of the new parents you may mix with once you've had your baby will be familiar with the brand, and it will be difficult to avoid the association.

@RiseUpWiseUpEyesUp it's such a pretty name, it really is!

I don’t think I’d associate it tbh

missmouse101 · 29/08/2020 21:25

But it's like the letters L V. That's all I think of when I hear it.

binkyblinky · 29/08/2020 21:25

I love the name, and I've never heard of the brand either! Could you change the spelling - perhaps Elvye?

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:26

Thank you to everyone who has left supportive comments. It's really hard when you've had your heart set on a name and then find a reason to not use it.

I also thought it sounded like L'Oreal Elveve

Goingdownto · 29/08/2020 21:26
@Serenschintte my OH grandmother is called Evelyn unfortunately, thank you for the suggestion though
It seems weird to give that as a reason not to use the name, many people are named after a family connection!

binkyblinky · 29/08/2020 21:26

@FS12 change the spelling to Elvye xx

SylvanianFrenemies · 29/08/2020 21:27

I wouldn't let it put me off. It's not a link that most people would make.

Chirpychirpy3 · 29/08/2020 21:28

Elvie sounds like LV who do insurance.

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:28

@Goingdownto I'm not a very traditional person and have only met his grandmother a couple of times, so it would feel odd to give our baby the same name as her.

CountFosco · 29/08/2020 21:28

It's a pretty name but that's unfortunate. At least you found out now.

If your OH's grandmother is Evelyn then that could be a wonderful way to ingratiate yourself to his family. Unless she's awful of course.

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:28

@Chirpychirpy3 yeah I can love with that, along with LV for Louis vuitton

Love the name. Never heard of the brand so I say go for it.

Aozora13 · 29/08/2020 21:29

I think it’s fine if you really love the name. To me Arlo is a home security system and Milo is a milky drink but that doesn’t seem to stop people!

Llamapolice · 29/08/2020 21:30

I wouldn't let it put you off if you like it. It won't mean a thing to her peers and by the time she's old enough to know about breast pumps etc the brand names will have moved on.

TerrifiedandWorried · 29/08/2020 21:30

I know a 6 year old Elvie. She is absolutely awesome and proudly tells people her name means Elf warrior or some such.

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:31

@CountFosco yeah you're right, maybe it is better i found out before. I've only met her a couple of times so it would be odd to give our baby the same name

TerrifiedandWorried · 29/08/2020 21:31

Also I have never heard of the brand name

FS12 · 29/08/2020 21:31

@TerrifiedandWorried this is the positivity I need haha!

I honestly wouldn't worry unless you feel too weird about it now. Think about how many times you've heard a name which was 'new' to you and perhaps put you in mind of something else/another word word. Maybe a name from another language or just something you'd not heard used as a name before? It sounds odd at first but soon it's just associated with whoever the person is. (Did that make sense ? It did in my head!)

Fwiw, I think it's pretty. And I'd never heard of the brand.

nearlynermal · 29/08/2020 21:33

Imagine my relief: I thought you were going to call your baby Kegel.
