First off, I'll say that music plays a huge role in my life, namely rap from the mid-west USA (Michigan) and I really do want a name for my daughter that absolutely nobody else has already thought of. I told my parents earlier and they straight-up laughed in my face Sad but I feel I've got the perfect name.

So, this is what I really want it to be - Michigan Lyricism. I also should say that I love rhyming names and plus they would follow my rap theme. So Michigan Lyricism and our surname is Keegan.

Will people laugh at this?

Don’t burden yourk ids with awful names!
Maybe in the USA this might be ok but here, no.

Hearwego · 17/07/2020 19:46

Don’t burden your kids I mean

Babs709 · 17/07/2020 19:52

I’ve noticed a few threads lately with pretty awful baby names and the OP never comes back (Hodge is the only other example off the top of my head). Anyone else think these may be trolls?

Mummytea24 · 17/07/2020 20:07

You need to grow up op

Yes probably. If they want to give their kids ridiculous names, fine crack on. But why ask our opinions on them if they know the answer to it already??

Onestepup · 17/07/2020 20:36

Biscuit The OP hasn't been back. What a surprise (not)

tilder · 17/07/2020 20:49

I'm not surprised the op hasn't come back. If it was genuine, the comments would hurt. If a wind up, job done.

I find in general if a name choice on these boards raises an eyebrow, it's either a name from a different culture or its a yoonique spelling. The former are generally fascinating, the latter less so.

Michigan as a name for a girl is a bit like Birmingham would be.

Lyricism would not be my choice of name.

@KyleRappsTheSecond

Ah God, this place.

7 pages of smug old guffbags trying to educate a non-white pleb.

Of course it was a wind-up.

This comment is from the OP on a different account.
strawberrypip · 18/07/2020 07:15

obviously it was a wind up but what's the point? not even funny Confused

GloriousTechnicolour · 18/07/2020 07:35

I don't really understand wind up threads I have to say. Are people just really, really bored? Read a book, watch a film, volunteer at a foodbank.

KaptainKaveman · 18/07/2020 07:39

I thought it was quite funny. Thanks OP!

emilybrontescorsett · 18/07/2020 07:46

I think it's fine.
I have to say though, I always thought it was pronounced Mitch -i-gan.

fiadhflower · 18/07/2020 07:52

Going against the grain here, but I don’t think Michigan is that out there. No more out there than Brooklyn, Paris, Dublin, India or other place-based names people bestow on their children. Probably will be mispronounced in the UK though. I think Mish Keegan sounds quite sweet.

I’d probably go for a more well-known second name though.

princesshollysmagicalwand · 18/07/2020 08:10

Oh don't be so silly.

Well it's highly likely that your child won't thank you! Certainly not when young.... If you must name something linked to your interests, name a pet that won't give a damn is my advice. This isn't just about how others react to the name initially, it's about your child being ladled with a name through their life and work career. Unless of course, you don't mind them changing their name when they can, to reduce the impact on career options, which sadly happens...
Mymycherrypie · 18/07/2020 09:07

I don’t know why the OP is getting such a hard time.

I called my child Knitting Pattern and she’s always loved her name.

Mymycherrypie · 18/07/2020 09:09

And her brothers, Netflix and Chill are happy with their names too!

BluntAndToThePoint80 · 18/07/2020 09:24

Yes, people will laugh.

You might like the name, but you have to consider that it will be your child who will have to deal with that, much more than you. If you want something absurd, change your own name.

i think if op hadn't done gone with such an !out there" middle name she'd have had slightly less judgement.

Am surprised how many people mispronounce Michigan but its one of those things, people will say it wrong, you'll correct them and then they'll get it right. We had Castiel and a few first comments querying how to pronounce it. Now everyone can. Sorted

JaJaDingDong · 19/07/2020 10:19

Michigan Keegan is a bit of a mouthful though, dontcha think?
However you pronounce Michigan

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 19/07/2020 11:06

Please don't - you are potentially exposing your child to a whole ton of stress and ridicule....
