First off, I'll say that music plays a huge role in my life, namely rap from the mid-west USA (Michigan) and I really do want a name for my daughter that absolutely nobody else has already thought of. I told my parents earlier and they straight-up laughed in my face Sad but I feel I've got the perfect name.

So, this is what I really want it to be - Michigan Lyricism. I also should say that I love rhyming names and plus they would follow my rap theme. So Michigan Lyricism and our surname is Keegan.

Will people laugh at this?

You can't be serious, this is a joke, right?

LynetteScavo · 17/07/2020 05:31

How about Menime? It's Eminem backwards.

Jocundest · 17/07/2020 05:43

Are we calling our children after our own enthusiasms now? Make way for Fixing Cars Smith, Obsessive Macramé Jones, Wild Swimming Andrews. Beginners Fencing Brown.

Or we could, you know, recognise that our hobbies, however engrossing to us, are sod all to do with our offspring, who are not a reflection of us?

What kind of music do your parents like, OP? Would you have thought it was deeply cool to be called Easy Listening Gardener? K Pop Bennett? Reggae Fusion Dobbs?

lookoutfor · 17/07/2020 05:47

Awful and cruel.

Candyflosscookie · 17/07/2020 05:58

Well I laughed.

I don't get this obsession with a yoonique name. Are you so deeply insecure you think your child needs it to be "special". Every child is amazing in their own way whether they are called Jack, Olivia, Elsie or Gaylord. A name doesn't make them special.

Your child will have to put up with sniggering forever. She's not a toy or a dog or a record label or something to make YOU feel better or that you are so "creative". Get the fuck over yourself and give the child a name she doesn't have to spend her life explaining that her parent was ridiculous.

avocadotofu · 17/07/2020 06:08

I think that's an awful name for your child to have to live with for the rest of their life.

MrsBungle · 17/07/2020 06:12

It’s absolutely awful. Don’t saddle the poor child with such a stupid name.

Dinosauraddict · 17/07/2020 06:21

Michigan is not too bad (I have never heard it pronounced incorrectly though), and whilst I wouldn't choose it, on its own I wouldn't think anything or judge someone if a child was called it. The middle name is imho awful. I do also think that Michigan Keegan sounds like you are slightly obsessed with Michelle Keegan...

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/07/2020 06:27

@HeddaGarbled

Why do you want a name for your daughter that no one else has thought of? That’s narcissistic. She’s not an accessory to your obsession with a niche musical genre.
^ This. You are talking about a child, who could live to 80. She will need to fit in at school and carve out a career.

Why would you saddle a child with ridiculous names just to satisfy your needs?

GoGold · 17/07/2020 06:27

Horrible. Sorry.

ChikiTIKI · 17/07/2020 06:30

The first name is a lot better than the middle one I think.

Although the name is coming from your niche interests which the baby probably won't share. Can you think of a similar name using your parents interests and honestly say you would have been happy with it?

SkeletorAttack · 17/07/2020 06:30

OP - I love your passion for hip hop but please don't do this to your child. It is not a good name for a person.

It would make a cool tattoo though...! Maybe show your love and appreciation through that route, or getting a piece of artwork made featuring that phrase?

cansu · 17/07/2020 06:36

It's awful. Your daughter will end up being called Mich which isn't great. She will spend her whole life explaining her name and we haven't even got to the middle name. Naming your child is just that, it isn't a statement of your beliefs or hobbies. It also shouldn't be about shocking people or having something that no one else has got.
Why not just choose a real name that is beautiful to you?

majesticallyawkward · 17/07/2020 06:40

Awful. Just awful. While it may be cute to give a baby a shitty yoonique name now, they are saddled with it for their whole life. Bullying at school, looked over for jobs, not taken seriously and judged (subconsciously mostly) because of it.

You really do have to think about the person you stick with the name not the baby/fashion accessory.

justanotherneighinparadise · 17/07/2020 06:48

🙈

People will judge you and very sadly judge your child by their name their whole life.

DomDoesWotHeWants · 17/07/2020 06:58

Will people laugh at this?

Yes. Especially other children. Don't do it, it's cruel.

Destroyedpeople · 17/07/2020 07:01

Your child is a human not a dog.
How about 'Ava' or 'Olivia'?

IndecentFeminist · 17/07/2020 07:02

What on earth does your love of a particular music have to do with what you name your child? They're not an accessory. Change your own name if you want to reflect your love of music.

Joans3rddaughter · 17/07/2020 07:10

Poor kid
Not sure if the Registrar would agree to register that.

Poppydaisies · 17/07/2020 07:57

While it's not a name I would choose, Michigan Keegan is fine as a name. At our London school nobody would bat an eyelid.

Great post @Jocundest Grin

Destroyedpeople · 17/07/2020 08:00

That's right in London it would be fine.
There are all kinds of names there.

Dandarabilla · 17/07/2020 08:05

If I heard a parent saying their daughter is called Michigan Lyricism Keegan, I would either burst out laughing in their daft faces or look at them just like I look at people abroad when they speak to me in a foreign lingo such as mongolian or urdu.

twinkledag · 17/07/2020 08:21

Agree with @Poppydaisies here!
