First off, I'll say that music plays a huge role in my life, namely rap from the mid-west USA (Michigan) and I really do want a name for my daughter that absolutely nobody else has already thought of. I told my parents earlier and they straight-up laughed in my face Sad but I feel I've got the perfect name.

So, this is what I really want it to be - Michigan Lyricism. I also should say that I love rhyming names and plus they would follow my rap theme. So Michigan Lyricism and our surname is Keegan.

Will people laugh at this?

I hope this is a wind up!

Awful. Poor child.

backseatcookers · 17/07/2020 01:23

This does seem like an example of a name that is all about you, not about the child and their future.

managedmis · 17/07/2020 01:45

Who are you trying to be?

Lozz22 · 17/07/2020 01:50

What a bloody mouthful!! No it's a ridiculous bloody name. For a start off if you want it all to rhyme it needs to be Michigan Lyrican Keegan which of course sounds just as stupid as the first one. Imo there should be a law banning people from naming their children with such idiotic names

CrazyToast · 17/07/2020 01:53

Really sorry OP but it is terrible. Michigan could be passable, but she will get called Mish, do you want that? Lyricism is not good, it doesnt even sound like name. Your child will be mocked for that name, don't do it.

However, I think Lyric is lovely! Lyric Michigan Keegan has a real ring to it?

YouokHun · 17/07/2020 01:54

Fucking awful. Naff.

Aranan · 17/07/2020 02:02

Yeah, I laughed. I’m sure there are worse names out there. But it does come across as really try-hard and cringe, sorry..

Sheenais · 17/07/2020 02:19

Why not name her after a strong woman from Michigan like Sojourner or Aretha? Naming her after a state is a bit boring and a bit wanky if the only connection is you like certain music.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 17/07/2020 02:25

You are sure taking the piss?

Stinkerbells · 17/07/2020 02:43

Please think about your child’s future. When they get a passport, driving license, create a CV, apply for a job or get married. It’s wrong that people judge but they will.

Ada and Elsie are places in Michigan, Ada Michigan Keegan? Instead of Lyricism how about Larissa or Melody? Ada Larissa Keegan. Who are your favourite female rappers? They’re is a female rapper from Detroit, Mae Day. Maybe not to your taste but there might be other Michigan inspired names you might like. Ultimately it’s your decision. When is your little one due?

justilou1 · 17/07/2020 02:48

Names affect how people perceive you - even before they meet you. If your kid grows up to be an accountant or a lawyer (you may not be able to imagine this, but it can happen!) this will be in their resume, and they will be judged negatively. If they have changed their name, it will be assumed that they are hiding something dodgy.

Italiangreyhound · 17/07/2020 02:51

In the nicest possible way, can I please ask you to think about the meaning of a name for the person who has that name.

Your name is how you are known by people in many situations. Yes, you may have a nickname that is used by many, and sometimes your most significant relationships will bring a new name, my mum was always mum to me and not her given name, and likewise with my kids.

However, although you can escape your name sometimes in this way, in many other ways you are saddled with a name unless you actually do change it by deed pole.

That means the name is going to follow your child through life.

Please don't make her name all about your feelings or likes.

Why is it important for it to be a name that "that absolutely nobody else has already thought of"?

Your child will always be unique, and hugely special to you, she won't need a unique name to be this person.

Loveinatimeofcovid · 17/07/2020 02:53

It’s lovely that you enjoy your rap music but you don’t get to inflict that on your child. This is the kind of name that would most likely be changed by deed poll when she’s old enough.

Userzzz · 17/07/2020 02:54

Oh god

Kokeshi123 · 17/07/2020 02:54

People will assume she's a boy. Especially given the fact that British people will probably say "Mitch~" not "Mish~". It's very very American. It also sounds silly with your surname. The initials MLK also sound like it's deliberate. Of course it's not a bad association but it looks a bit try-hard.

Why not choose the actual first name of a musician you like?

BlueLagoona · 17/07/2020 02:54

Oh dear.

On the off chance you’re serious op, please don’t.

You’re naming a human not a third rate downtown nightclub.

Antipodeancousin · 17/07/2020 02:57

I’m laughing at you too, if this is even real. People will think you lack education and common sense.

PineconeOfDoom · 17/07/2020 03:03

Can pretty much guarantee your child isn’t going to find it’s parents taste in music cool. Well, they might, but not until they are into their 40s. As a teenager they will hate it, they always do. It would be a like you being called Manchester Scene Keegan.

KickAssAngel · 17/07/2020 03:06

I lotve in Michigan but have never met a child called that. People would just accept it, though, around here.

But if you're in the UK I'd worry about the pronunciation as the Us way of saying it is much softer.

You could look at some of the city names around this area as another source of inspiration.

CJsGoldfish · 17/07/2020 03:33

Oh, we love it here.
Have been in hysterics trying to think of anything worse.

This is actually one of the most ridiculous names I've seen and I've seen some pretty shit names on here.
At some point I hope you realise that choosing a name to make people think you are 'cool' rarely does make you look 'cool'

Hollyhobbi · 17/07/2020 04:07

Sure it's no worse than Brookyln or Paris😂.

BarnOwl26 · 17/07/2020 04:37

Yeah, I’d laugh

Toilenstripes · 17/07/2020 04:49

Are you hoping that people will think you’re cool for giving your kid that name? They won’t.

suchclearwater · 17/07/2020 04:58

Please don't do it. It's a shite name as you probably have gathered by now.

022828MAN · 17/07/2020 05:00

Ha! I love Hip Hop and rap, OP (my fave music) and even I think this is a wind up!
