Middle name for Plato

BottleRocket · 18/02/2014 20:04

We've decided on the name Plato for our baby son, due in two weeks. It's sort of like Arlo or Milo but less common. The only thing is we can't think of a good middle name.

Thanks in advance!

To those saying the OP didn't ask for opinions on Plato or think people are being mean, posters are only saying what lots of people will think if they go ahead with naming him Plato.

It could be seen as doing the OP a favour as she may have not considered that others would think it a strange choice and not the same as calling a child Milo. She may choose to reconsider in light of the reactions - or she may not give a toss what everybody else thinks!

Oh these threads are always good for a laugh.

I think that you are doing the poor child a favour if you make the parent stop and think. You have to hope that he is going to be confident, friendly and popular to carry it off.

Floralnomad · 18/02/2014 22:37

Peter , that's my dogs middle name and his first name is Pluto so very similar ( he also has an unusual second middle name )

Burma · 18/02/2014 22:43

I would never take the mick out of a name but you cannot name a child Plato - sorry but it is cruel. Worse than Wolf even and that takes some doing.

colleysmill · 18/02/2014 22:43

Plato could be after Jason Plato (racing driver according to dh)?

I'm not good with middle names but perhaps something more run of the mill - George or James?

Burma · 18/02/2014 22:44

Floralnomad your dog has a middle name?!

Locketjuice · 18/02/2014 22:44

Puss?

Dovahkiin · 19/02/2014 02:12

Saurus?

Mandy2003 · 19/02/2014 03:51

It's Dappy's father's name isn't it? Or Tulisa's. Alexander is good, or James.

NinjaCow · 19/02/2014 04:12

Plato Rudolph.

cafecito · 19/02/2014 04:24

Silvius

Socrates

Aristotle

Hi actually knew a Plato at secondary school. He was Chinese in a nz school. I think his parents thought it was a good western name in preference to his Chinese given name.

As others have intimated might happen, he was given a lot of hassle about his name and after a year or so he used his given Chinese name (and asked the school to be clear about this). Because of the circumstances and u think as he was such a nice guy, 'plato' did disappear but it was awful for a while.

Please do not name your child Plato. It is nothing like Arlo or Milo and there is good reason it is more rarely used
