Middle name for Plato

BottleRocket · 18/02/2014 20:04

We've decided on the name Plato for our baby son, due in two weeks. It's sort of like Arlo or Milo but less common. The only thing is we can't think of a good middle name.

Thanks in advance!

I understand these urges to give esoteric names, but I think I am just going to buy some chickens and inflict my whimsy upon them, rather than the DCs.

If you cannot resist though...Bob. Has to be Bob.

I know two Blues and a West.
Plato seems very prosaic in comparison.

Pigeonhouse · 20/02/2014 16:01

But in the context of my bit of north London, those names weren't esoteric enough to raise an eyebrow. What's considered unusual is so place- and class- and age-specific that I don't think it's fair to point at something you personally consider 'out there' and condemn it.

My son has a Biblical name (and I don't mean Methuselah or Judas) and his grandparents nearly died when we announced it because no one they knew called their children that kind of thing. Yet it's a name that comes up fairly often on 'nice and underused classic boys' names' on this forum.

It's nowhere near Arlo and Milo.

I suggest Ned as the middle name, on the grounds that there was once a birth announcement in the London Telegraph of one Ignatius Mungo, brother of Ptolemy Ned, Octavius Kit and Atticus Monty. That is, if you're going for memorable as opposed to normal UMC (which would be Milo or Arlo). For some reason 'Ned' really stood out.

ImperialBlether · 20/02/2014 18:03

OP, I know it's very unlikely, what with you being a MNetter, but what if baby Plato is a bit dim?

SirChenjin · 20/02/2014 18:07

Maybe little Tolly was already showing ned-like tendencies Grin

Well, I come onto this bit of MN for a laugh and it never fails to deliver. This is up there with Zephyr and Jupiter on my giggle-ometer. Classic.

Wouldn't it get mistaken for playdough at Nursery?

All babies have Ned-like tendencies Smile

Nick

Or has someone done that already?

OP, we love you really, please come back!!! Smile

Plato horratio

MrRected · 21/02/2014 00:08

Dear OP. Assuming this is not a wind up.

Please reconsider your name choice. That is the first and probably last time I have ever said that to ANYBODY. There is nothing wrong with an unusual name - your choice, however, goes beyond the realm of unusual and reaches into the depths of odd rock kid names - just because you can.

MrRected · 21/02/2014 00:10

Snort at Chips.

Very droll.

Yes, I agree with Chips. That was my first thought. Its a bit common though. How does pommes frites sound?

LittleBearPad · 21/02/2014 00:42

Plato is nothing like Milo. One is a philosopher, the other a giant yellow annoying mascot type thing.

Ironically the philosopher is the out there name but never less don't call you son after him. It's not fair

Stelio Kontos.
Plato Stelio Kontos. Keep it Greek.

Gatogris · 21/02/2014 00:45

I knew someone called Pericles. He wasn't happy with his name.
