Middle name for Plato

BottleRocket · 18/02/2014 20:04

We've decided on the name Plato for our baby son, due in two weeks. It's sort of like Arlo or Milo but less common. The only thing is we can't think of a good middle name.

Thanks in advance!

Ptolemy
Aristotle
Archimedes

Dirtybanana · 19/02/2014 04:46

Euripedes?

No I just pulla them apart!

Dirtybanana · 19/02/2014 04:57

I'm sorry OP.

If you really want to stick with Plato, then Alexander, as was suggested first.

Nospringflower · 19/02/2014 07:53

I lIKE Plato as a name but agree something conventional as a middle name like James or Alexander. Seriously I think it's great and don't know why Ptolomy is any better Grin

Misfitless · 19/02/2014 08:16

Mmmmm.

OP, ignore my post, but I just wanted to put it out there anyway...

If you are really cool, unconventional, eccentric, arty and free-spirited types, for example, explorers, artists, dancers, poets, artists, writers, and artists again, you and DS could carry this name off and all will be well....

Misfitless · 19/02/2014 08:18

If you and/or DH are in anyway none of the above, it will come across as a bit pretentious, like you're trying really hard to appear to be free-spirited, arty, unconventional and cool.

vestandknickers · 19/02/2014 08:23

Plato? Wow! Not sure anything really goes with that!

Kevin?

I have to say I don't like Arlo or Milo either.

Burma · 19/02/2014 09:24

Ptolomy is slightly better.

Plato is like calling your child God or some such - it's just ludicrous.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 19/02/2014 09:33

What like "Theo" Burma? Wink
Actually maybe OP might go with that?

PoppadomPreach · 19/02/2014 09:38

Potato

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 19/02/2014 10:58

Augustus or Alexander both nice suggestions if this is serious.

You might even get away with it in some areas of the country. Can't quite imagine a Geordie Plato though. Or Welsh. Grin

That's giving your baby an epic name to grow into. And why not. If you've found a name you and DP like, then no one should be able to dissuade you from it.

For a middle name maybe something quirky like Maddox?

Weegiemum · 19/02/2014 13:27

I'm trying to imagine a Plato going to my dcs school in Glasgow ......

Alexander is good. Gives the poor child a choice.

MsUumellmahaye · 19/02/2014 14:35

just give him the middle name sue to finish the job :)

HyvaPaiva · 19/02/2014 14:43

Pabst.

As in this website 'Hello, My Name is Pabst: Baby names for non-conformist, indie, geeky, DIY, hipster, and alterna-parents of every kind!'

Badvoc · 19/02/2014 14:58

"Plato, get inside for your tea!"
:)
If an just imagine it....

RalphRecklessCardew · 19/02/2014 15:11

Maybe Plato as the middle name?

drivenfromdistraction · 19/02/2014 15:21

Plato Bob.

FifiLeBoo · 19/02/2014 15:35

If you're deadest on Plato then I would agree with Alexander as a middle name.

I would just add that I have an unusual name and growing up was absolute hell, even now I get pissed off with the inevitable "oh! That's unusual/different/weird, where is it from?" Not to mention the spellings

Bunbaker · 19/02/2014 15:55

Have we frightened the OP away?

TheFillyjonk · 19/02/2014 16:00

I am of Greek heritage, and have a few cousins called Socrates.

I don't think Plato would go well with very ordinary names. It'd be a real anti-climax. Imagine meeting someone called Plato Kevin Smith!
