Anyone for a WIP thread?

LonelyOversharer · 04/01/2019 20:40

With the new year, I'm going for a low spend 2019.

On this note I have exactly eleventy million wip's to finish (rather than buy new yarn to start snother project). Does anyone else fancy a thread where we dig out old projects, start to finish those endless crochet blankets or just jolly each other along?

To start, I have a "door blanket" mid crochet (2m x 1m), and 4 christmas elves I knitted but did not finish.

I'm predominantly a knitter and bad crocheter, but any wip crafts welcome.

Anyone?

Finished my third knitting project - a cardigan for DD. I'll try and post a picture later.
Still have not finished ANY sewing projects, though I have done quite a bit of mending, with 3 pairs of trousers, 1 top and 1 dress returned to the DCs' drawers.
I lost the zips for the pockets on the jacket I'm making and now have new ones, I do have other easier projects I could do but I am pretty sure if I do that the jacket will get shelved yet again so I'm determined to try and get it done.

Next up in knitting I think are some more welly boot socks for the DCs - and then I have a cardigan in the works for me - as well as the ongoing temperature blanket. I've almost finished the ball of yarn I have for 6-7C but it was a partial ball, anyway it's giving me a clue about which ones I will need to get more of!

LonelyOversharer · 09/02/2019 09:50

I've caught up to the 27th january on my temp blanket, being good and joining as I go, I'm on the 2nd row already. I had to buy a new 4-6° blue, as I used a ball from my stash up. I'm guessing there won't be a lot left of the new (100g) ball as it doesn't seem to get much warmer than that here!

I am bordering the batik squares for my girls' blankets, about 3 a day. It is slow going! They need to be bordered before being blocked and joined, as thats how I did the first lot.

Got my sewing machine out and stitched the tape round the blanket (it will hang upsidown! Doh. But I'm not unpicking the tabs), just need to get a short slim curtain pole.

I'm going to make a new work apron today, so use up probably 2 pairs of old jeans (won't dent my stash). I spend my days screen printing and faffing around with tiny jars of paint, and ruin an apron every 4 months or so. They think I'm crackers that I wear my own apron instead of an issue navy polyester tabard!

I am planning a corner-to-corner "graphgan" for ds' bed. I have officially gone crochet blanket mad!

Tsk tsk Lonely
You have gone to the darkside 😎
Currently watching Saturday Kitchen and knitting my jumper neverending atm
I cant wait to get to the yoke as its way more interesting.
Only have a couple of UFOs now Smile

TheWoollybacksWife · 09/02/2019 10:10

How do you manage to keep the sides of a corner to corner straight? I made C2C blankets for a doll bed recently and if they had been any bigger they would have been rhombuses. I briefly toyed with the idea of doing C2C for a Chernobyl blanket but I wouldn't have been able to cope with it going wonky and doing random colours

I need this thread in my life.

I call myself a crafter but have realised my hobby has actually mainly been Pinteresing and buying things. Blush

I'm a bit of a magpie with crafts and do all sorts of things, I'm to count a couple of things that...erm...stretch the concept of craft but I need to get done this year.

My WIPs off the top of my head are:

  • A forest quilt baby blanket
  • Felt Clementine Cat with duffel coat
  • Compost pen made from old fence panels
  • VW Camper Van for DCats made from cardboard boxes
  • Lovely pink tweed Chanel style pencil skirt (which is now too small)
  • Crochet grey cat (am just learning to crochet so mainly keep starting, frogging, starting again)
  • An ongoing project of felt Easter, Christmas and Halloween decorations

I also have the patterns and fabric in for a tea dress, a wrap dress or two, a freehand sewing picture of a hen (was supposed to be DMs Xmas present about 3 years ago) and probably more besides Blush

wheresmymojo · 09/02/2019 11:08

I did finish a WIP last Sunday though...a clutch bag.

But have also remembered I have fabric in to make several make up bags in cat fabric as I run a craft group for my local Cats Protection branch.

Oh and all the stuff to try and make little cat dolls from calico. Argh!

It's the speed of crochet quite I have blankets popping up everywhere.

wooly you need youtube tutorials! I put in "corner to corner crochet" theres a zillion. I cruised until I found the least annoying american lady (a monotone bloke actually put me to sleep). Then I watched a couple of "graphgan" ones. Dd1 donated some squared paper from her maths book(!) so I can draw a plan to follow.

What I'm really doing is avoiding the beautiful top down summer top in a Sheepjes swirl, which is stalled halfway down the lacy bobbly yoke.

Welcome mojo I am also a slave to pintrest. It is responsible for about 50% of my recent craft purchases (the rest is yarn).

WIP number one complete - with added cat, as she seems to have developed a liking for it. Next up, the lion from Edward's Menagerie...

Yay! Well done. Lovely cat too. I love the "and why are you taking a photo of me when I have claimed this for myself?" face. Finishing a big project feels quite freeing doesn't it. Plodding on with crochet squares here.

diamantegal · 16/02/2019 23:54

Oh yes, big weight off - despite the fact I'm doing it because I enjoy it! Lion is going well so don't think that will take too long. Only problem is that I'm getting inspired by other people's WIPs and yarn stashes - that wasn't the idea!

drspouse · 17/02/2019 08:04

I appear to have accidentally started two more WIPs.
Warm socks for DD for wearing with wellies and a test knit mitten for me. I've done test knits before but I've never made a successful pair of mittens!
The mitten is knitting up quite quickly though.
After knitting the ribbing DD sat on my needles so that's a new pair of Knitpro tips ordered too.
I did sew in one zipped pocket on my jacket. I've never done a zipped pocket before and it took me FOUR goes.

LonelyOversharer · 17/02/2019 13:26

Zips are very much not my forte! I have one beautiful purple silk dress (that still fits 18yrs and 4dc later) with about 24 tiny buttons up the back as I could not get the hidden zip right!

I have knitted most of a camel today. They are sized to fit most nativity sets, and I sell about a dozen a year. I am sick to death of sewing them up. So am adapting Alan Darts pretty perfect pattern to knit in the round = problem solved.

I've recently finished off some wips. An amigurami bird from a kit that came with a magazine, a ripple baby blanket and some Mr Men story stones for work (I work in a nursery). Still to do/finish I have a cross stitch birth sampler for dc2 (born and started 7 years ago), another bird amigurami and some wrist warmers for a friend's birthday.

Second zip pocket done, only one seam needed unpicking!

LonelyOversharer · 24/02/2019 08:33

Hello! We have gone quiet, but I hope you'll all come back to post pics of finished projects.

I pulled out the crochet squares made for a baby who's nearly 2 now, and joined them together. I am now on the border, so another job nearly done.

Cracking on with my temperature blanket, it is going into yellow with this warm weekend!

Got an etsy order yesterday, 3 little mice, so will do them this week too.

Can I join? I’m a sewer with a mountain of WIP’s that I keep ignoring in favour of new shinier projects! I am impressed by your yarn stash Lonely - that’s dedication! I think I saw (possibly you?) someone on another thread saying that creating a stash is about the illusion of down time and I think that’s what mine is about! I want to sew but generally end up too exhausted at the weekend to.

PeanuttyButter · 24/02/2019 21:11

Hello can I join!?
I'm a crocheter and I cross stitch, decided this year I'm going to finish all my WIPs and have sorted my yarn stashes our. My DH is laughing at me here because im getting all excited about finding this thread.

Cross stitch

  1. Massive Christmas picture I started in 2014 to be ready for Christmas 2014... I'm about 15% of the way through...

Crochet

  1. need to repair DH granny square blanket as it was one of my first projects (first and last to start with a magic circle) and the circles aren't standing up to the test of the washing machine.

  2. Sophie's blanket.. I'm on row 104 so nearly there now!! But need to stitch in soo many ends

  3. Almost at the end of a Christmas plaid blanket I started in 2017

  4. part way through a scarf thing for me..just winging it. Wanted to complete it before the cold weather went but doesn't look like it's happening

  5. ³/⁴ through a beanie cap for someone at work..again I don't think he's gonna get it till it's cold again!

Other than that I've been really good and completed 4 WIPs already this year..
Just need to try not to start something else and make sure I try and use some of my stash before buying more wool.
Oh and if I can have some encouragement to complete the cross stitch that would be ace

WhenDoISleep · 24/02/2019 21:29

I posted early on, but I have completely lost my crafting mojo since Christmas and have not knitted or sewn a thing (apart from 3 Cubs badges onto a jumper, with 15 still to go). I decided to dig out a square I started for the WH Chernobyl project and made some progress on that while waiting for DC at an activity on Friday. Now I've started, I hope to keep motivated to crack on and finish some projects.

Jasmin82 · 24/02/2019 22:06

I'm currently working on a patchwork quilt, which I have resigned myself to the dog claiming for her own use, and some throws and cushions.

storynanny · 03/03/2019 11:38

I’m very disciplined about finishing a project before starting the next, but absolutely not disciplined about buying yarn and fabric ready for my next project(s)
Inspired by this thread I have gone through my stashes and made list.
Oh dear
2 topsy turvey Cinderella dolls being completed this week for 2 granddaughters
2 more next for the next 2 granddaughters.
A tea cosy for my sisters camper van
2x sets of ten tiny knitted teddies with numbers on for 2 youngest grandchildren
2 lace weight shawl/scarves for me
2 lace weight scarves for presents
Top down ombré jumper for me
4 x Christmas crochet wreaths for my 4 families of grandchildren for Christmas 2019
As my favourite yarn for babies and children’s cardigans is being continued ( serdar wash n wear double crepe) I’ve bought up enough in 4 colours for next winter grandchildren knits.
Chunky wool for poncho for me

Well that will keep me busy!
I’ve just instructed my knitting group friends that if I die before I’ve used it all , they are to come round and fetch it out of the house before my husband notices how much I have!

storynanny · 03/03/2019 11:39

Oh and I forgot to add the sewing projects, 4 dresses in batik fabric for the little granddaughters and 2 sleeveless shift dresses for the summer for me.

vintagebella · 03/03/2019 14:14

Can I join? storynanny that looks like my project list. The arrival of my first grandchild prompted me to take up crochet after 30 years. First blanket was a smaller LucyAttic hydrangea which took me 6 days! Really surprised myself. Then a LucyAttic Cosy which took a couple of weeks. I have a coastal stash buster blanket on the go now and have all the yarn for the following;

3 x persian tiles blanket - promised Christmas presents
Double size LucyAttic woodland
Honeycomb blanket
Desert Storm blanket
Mustard February shawl
Hexagon flower blanket and matching cushion cover
3 crochet bolster cushions
Cotton granny square blanket
Sheepjes CAL hook & learn blanket
Indian summer blanket
Several other things I can't remember - I'm sure my yarn is breeding!
I love seeing what I've created though and everyone seems happy with their gifts
My current WIP

I was being so good getting stuff finished and I ran out of yarn for my Sophie 😫 ended up starting something new Blush

MollyHuaCha · 04/03/2019 23:21

@vintagebella I just love your blanket. Is it your own design or a published pattern?

diamantegal · 05/03/2019 22:54

Lion complete! Not entirely sure what to do with it, but I enjoyed making it so will definitely look to do more amigurumi in future. Lonely, are the things you sell your own design? Wondering about just shoving it on ebay or something, or whether that's not an option due to copyright.

Next are a couple of blankets as liners for cat carriers. Ideally before we go away at the start of the Easter holidays. DS is adamant that girl cat wants a bright rainbow blanket because she spends so much time snuggled up on his - at least that only needs to be 1/4 size at most. And I've got lots of solid granny squares already made so hoping I can just join those for boy cat.

And would really like to do some Chernobyl squares at some point, but as always, time is running away with me...
