Anyone for a WIP thread?

With the new year, I'm going for a low spend 2019.

On this note I have exactly eleventy million wip's to finish (rather than buy new yarn to start snother project). Does anyone else fancy a thread where we dig out old projects, start to finish those endless crochet blankets or just jolly each other along?

To start, I have a "door blanket" mid crochet (2m x 1m), and 4 christmas elves I knitted but did not finish.

I'm predominantly a knitter and bad crocheter, but any wip crafts welcome.

Anyone?

Anyone for a WIP thread?
choppolata · 06/01/2019 23:23

Oh diamante that is fabulous! Makes me think of Spangles for some reason. I keep looking at Attic24 blankets but have so many WIPs...
*lonely" I started it in Jan 2016 so 3 years! The most boring pattern and nastiest yarn ever, it was a kit I got in Hobbycraft sale for £5. Never again.
Christmas jumper update started sewing in sleeves & discovered I had given up on one of them out of boredom, 3 inches short Xmas Shock So now have a Christmas tanktop and a project for the train tomorrow.

LonelyOversharer · 06/01/2019 23:51

Thats too funny! The given up on sleeve. I have a short sleeved sweater, which I simply couldn't be arsed knitting long sleeves on...it looks stupid. The long sleeved version I did first is magic and gets worn a lot. It's been washed too, so would probably look worse if I added proper sleeves now (top down so technically could).

The ripple blanket looks fab. I love rainbow. Have a bit of obsession with rainbow yarns too. I started a scarf in entrelac for dd2 (crap, thats another lost wip) in some glorious Scheepjes stardust. Shiny and rainbow. And unfinished. Gah.

I'm trying to do 2 stripes a day of my blanket (there and back is one stripe)...is that achievable diamante ?

Well, I started the Persian Tiles. There's a lot of counting. And ends to sew in. And I've had to You Tube how to do 3 stitches so far. So it isn't easy but it's not dead hard either.

It took me about 3 hours to get to row 10 of about 16 but I hope to get faster as I get familiar with the pattern. Will post a pic of first bit when I've done it.

Lovely blanket diamant

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/01/2019 00:24

I looked at the title of this thread and started to feel smug because I don't have any WIPS.

Then I remembered the blanket down the side of my sofa that I started in starburst stitch and got bored. So I decided that I would do a deep granny border. I got bored again. I am actually on the last round of trebles and I can't bear to dig it out.

I have also got 2 pink newborn baby cardigans that only need the buttons sewing on. The baby is nearly 1.

One wrist warmer finished last May but the second one wasn't started. I "adapted" the pattern too so I have no chance whatsoever of remembering how I changed it.

A half dozen squares for Woolly Hugs that just need the ends sewing in.

I'm currently making baby hats for a family baby due next month. I'm going to switch to Angel Hugs once I'm finished and hopefully this will motivate me to sew in the loose ends on the squares.

Im afraid the wrist warmer is probably a lost cause.

JudgeRindersMinder · 07/01/2019 00:34

I think the cross stitch I started for BIL’s 40th birthday is a lost cause-he was 59 last birthday 😂😂

choppolata · 07/01/2019 06:58

woolybacks I made a lovely pair of wristwarmers 10 years ago. Lost one the second time I wore them. I have the yarn to make another but I too adapted the pattern, plus they were a horror to knit (sock yarn & super pointy needles). One day...

choppolata · 07/01/2019 06:59

judgerinder finish it for 60! Go on!!

SoupDragon · 07/01/2019 08:59

Im afraid the wrist warmer is probably a lost cause.

Ah, but frogging it gets rid of the WIP and gives you "new" yarn!

SoupDragon · 07/01/2019 09:07

Lovey bright Ripple blanket there :) I do have a fairly lurid rainbow is actually finished (which reminds me that I need to fix an area where I clearly didn't weave an end in properly).

I like the idea of a "couldn't be arsed" Christmas tank top 😂

huuskymam · 07/01/2019 09:21

I'm a cross stitcher. Doing a big one at the moment, been at it since July and probably won't be finished for another few months. I'm one of those that once I've started I can't move on until it's finished. It would drive me mad to have a couple of Wip on the go.

Raglansleeve · 07/01/2019 09:36

I'm getting towards the end of latest granny square blanket - only have about 8 more squares to do, am blocking the others and then need to buy some grey wool for joining and borders.

DMum has said I can raid her stash as she doesn't knit as much as she used to, so I'll probably start another blanket when I've checked out what she has - about 4 drawers full as I remember (rubs hands with glee!).

Love the Persian Tiles - I don't think my crocheting is good enough but I might try. A friend did the Jane Crowfoot lily pond blanket last year and it is truly gorgeous, but way outside my capabilities.

I also have a patchwork hexagon quilt which I was making for DH's Christmas present. In 2016. But I got overtaken by the crochet bug!

diamantegal · 07/01/2019 16:29

Lonely I think that two stripes a day is perfectly achievable if you've got the time - I reckon a stripe takes me just under an hour but that's because I do it watching TV and occasionally have to pay attention to what's happening, otherwise DH gets grumpy!

My main problem is that by the time I'm home from work, have supervised homework, cooked tea, done bathtime etc. there just aren't enough hours left for crochet!

LonelyOversharer · 07/01/2019 18:32

I can knit even quite complicated patterns without looking at all, but not crochet. I'm very much a beginner (think ch, 2dc, tr only) and cannot even glance away. It sort of makes me power down. I'm lucky that my dc are older now, and dp sees ds to bed, so have a wee bit of time in the evenings.

I did manage 20 mins knitting at lunch, even though it means explaining (over and over) knitting in the round. Just a little amigurami toy for etsy.

husky I cannot imagine the concept of just one wip! Some of the big cross stitch kits are beautiful. I have a small one (a cat asleep dangled over a branch if anyone remembers the early 2000's), that got shelved before I had dd1. She is 16 next week.

Sewing various things atm. I don't knit, but I've just finished a finger crocheting a scrap fabric mat for the bathroom. I want to venture into foundation paper piecing for small pieces of quilting. and try another large-ish quilt (150x150). I had good intentions to sort my stash into colour/size but ended up stuffing it all together in storage tubs due to being horribly late for a school run. Therefore, does anyone have any time management tips?

drspouse · 09/01/2019 11:54

I'm aiming for 12 knitting projects and 12 sewing projects this year. I've been off work this week with a fluey cold and cough so have done quite a bit on a pair of socks for me in Zauberball.

drspouse · 09/01/2019 11:55

Sorry I also have:
Jacket for me cut out and started sewing
Pyjamas for DD cut out
Trousers for DS cut out.

drspouse · 09/01/2019 11:57

@youlooklikeaclown I try and do sewing in half hour time slots in the evenings - I do want to spend time with DH in front of the TV, not spend the whole evening sewing.

drspouse · 10/01/2019 22:10

Socks finished!
Ultra speedy chunky knit glow in the dark hat for running started AND finished.
I think I will try and knit a jumper for DD which won't be quite so quick I think!

Crazybunnylady123 · 10/01/2019 23:58

Hello.
I’m into everything textiles. My current wip is a bothy threads rabbit cross stitch. Just finished a stitching shed design for my dc. Smile

CrochetBug · 11/01/2019 00:17

I have a few WIPs. I decided to work my way through 1 by 1. Although I also have a few customer orders and gifts that need to be done by a deadline so will also do those.
Off the top of my head I have to finish
1 c2c blanket for ds1

1 cardigan for me
1 bath scrubbie... thing
1 waffle square baby blanket (customer order)
1 micky mouse baby blanket.

2 dolls with 2 outfits each (unfinished Christmas presents)
Granny A Day squares. (I've done 2.5 out of 10 so far)
A multi strand blanket
I'm sure there are more half finished projects Confused

Then i also have on order 3 more baby blankets and a unicorn.

Plus 2 further baby blankets and a a giant octopus as gifts.

I also have a gazillion things I want to make. If I ever manage to get pregnant my baby will have a lot of blankets Grin

northender · 11/01/2019 00:24

I'm in! Will read back properly tomorrow, but for now, my name's northender and I have a fabric problem... I quilt (very amateur) I've got an unfinished Xmas table runner, Xmas tree skirt & Xmas cushion cover, 1 quilt on the go & fabric ready for another. I've got a week off after tomorrow so hopefully a chance to crack on. I've got all the fabric I need for now, just need wadding & backing for the quilt so not a lot of extra expense.

Parsleyisntfood · 11/01/2019 00:32

Just checking in. I found my abandoned projects box when I was putting away the Christmas decorations. I say box it’s now a small fort.
I’m a xstitcher at heart but tried to get into machine sewing again last year. I bought 2 machines and um got a lovely box for them.
I’ll haul it out tomorrow and come back with an honest review.

Pipsqueak11 · 11/01/2019 07:19

I have almost finished an attic 24 harmony blanket - just doing the border. Does anyone who has had a go at Persian tiles think it's achievable by a beginner? I can do all basic stitches but I m a novice really . It's so lovely I really want to have a go though

LonelyOversharer · 11/01/2019 07:54

Well done drspouse thats a couple off the list! I love a chunky hat, they are a watch a film, oh look, a new hat! Kind of thing. Sadly my lot no longer want chunky hats! Detailed 4ply uber lacy can't look away as each stitch is different pattern hats, yes...

crochetbug you sound a lot like me, except I knit...loads on the go for me, gifts mid done and etsy orders too. Which is why this year I am getting some stuff finished!

Hi north good to see you. I try not to look at my fabric. I have a thing about denim, bags and bags of it. I know you have an awful lot on just now, but there's always a bit of time for patchwork?

I'm nearly finished putting length on my blanket. It is almost 2m long. It is to hang in the arched hole to the living room to stop draughts, and then a sofa blanket in the summer. Edging it will be a nightmare. I mean really boring.
