Anyone for a WIP thread?

With the new year, I'm going for a low spend 2019.

On this note I have exactly eleventy million wip's to finish (rather than buy new yarn to start snother project). Does anyone else fancy a thread where we dig out old projects, start to finish those endless crochet blankets or just jolly each other along?

To start, I have a "door blanket" mid crochet (2m x 1m), and 4 christmas elves I knitted but did not finish.

I'm predominantly a knitter and bad crocheter, but any wip crafts welcome.

Anyone?

I am pleased to report that my Lidl had no yarn in their aisle of wonder today, hence no temptation to purchase. I do however now want to make a yarn albatross! Your fault wooly!

TheWoollybacksWife · 15/01/2019 17:17

Sorry choppolata 😂

Soupy I've posted on the refugee thread to ask KnottyAndPistey if it is any use to them.

Buttons done and just the wrist warmer thumb to knit.

Dodie66 · 15/01/2019 17:34

Give them to Knit for Peace.i Dante a lot of my knits and crochet to them. They go to refugees and also to people in the uk that need help. They have a FB page
www.facebook.com/knitforpeaceuk/

I also send knitted an crochet squares to blankets for. The homeless. You can either send just the 6” squares or make up a blanket. There are pods all over the UK that accept them. Here is a link to the HG Fb Page www.facebook.com/blanketsforthehomelesspeople/

Dodie66 · 15/01/2019 17:35

Donate not Dante 🙂

SoupDragon · 15/01/2019 19:59

I am currently putting the border on my longest WIP. Finally!

SaturdayNext · 16/01/2019 08:39

Oh dear, I found myself in the crafts department of John Lewis yesterday where they were having a half price sale of mahoosive 400g balls of Aran yarn. Well, it would have been rude not to buy some, wouldn't it?

drspouse · 16/01/2019 09:44

I've donated a blanket to siblingstogether.co.uk/

They mainly seem to get quilts but mine was a crocheted blanket.

choppolata · 17/01/2019 18:39

I had the day off today. Finished my Christmas jumper (cast on Jan 2016 Xmas Hmm) and a strawberry hat (cast on Nov 2018).

drspouse · 18/01/2019 11:35

Forging ahead with DD's cardigan but it may be too big (I tend to knit loosely) but thankfully children only grow, they don't shrink!

I may have ordered the yarn for a temperature blanket. So much for knitting from stash...

TheWoollybacksWife · 18/01/2019 11:53

I have finished the wrist warmers! I had 2 balls of the yarn left so I have now cast on for an ear warmer as I couldn't find a cable hat pattern I liked.

Stash wise I've now got the woolly albatross Grin, some donated wool for a couple of Angel Hugs, a bag of odds and sods that I will use to make a knitted nativity set when I need a small project in between larger projects, some dk that's been earmarked for doll's blankets for my great-niece and I'm waiting on some yarn for a Chernobyl blanket.

Anyone for a WIP thread?
TheWoollybacksWife · 18/01/2019 11:55

@drspouse did you see the article on the BBC website about scientists asking to see temperature blankets as part of a project on climate change?

drspouse · 18/01/2019 11:56

Ooh no!
But presumably just as "art" not evidence since we're mainly getting the temperatures from online sources!

ChristmasSeacow · 19/01/2019 00:42

What is a Chernobyl blanket?

I’ve made another bauble but still nothing ‘old’ finished Confused. I don’t have much time to knit so am just knitting what I most want to maximise enjoyment.

Have decided that stranded colourvwork is all very well on the flat but on a small circular object on DPN it is the devil’s own work to get the tension on the floats right. I sincerely hope I get better at that!

TheWoollybacksWife · 19/01/2019 01:02

Seacow

Woolly Hugs run a project to provide a blanket to children visiting the U.K. from Chernobyl. The current thread is here

drspouse · 19/01/2019 08:26

I use a finger thingy to do Fair Isle. I'm not perfect but I managed a hat with very grabby yarn.

ChristmasSeacow · 19/01/2019 09:11

A finger thingy Drs?

Thanks for the link to the blanket thread Wooly

TroysMammy · 19/01/2019 09:19

My sister bought me a cross stitch kit for Christmas. This made me go in the attic to have a look at what cross stitch items I already had. I am now finishing off a project I started around 2001. Well, that's the date on the magazine as I stopped cross stitching around 2004.

I'm also shocked that skeins that cost me 55p all those years ago are now 95p.

northender · 19/01/2019 09:19

Dem your projects sound interesting. Do you buy things and modify them or make from scratch, or both?
I've been sorting the crafty corner of the house this week, discovering quite a wool stash I wasn't really aware of! It's all single balls so I think I'm going to crochet, inspired by this thread. Now I need to start working through my unfinished projects, one at a time.

hendal · 19/01/2019 16:02

Oh love this thread, am a little late to the party!
I have a LOT of unfinished things, it’s awful really. I dabble in a few different areas, knitting, crochet, embroidery but dressmaking and millinery are my main area of interest. Off the top of my head now

Ragrug “flowers” (exploring using up fabric scraps hoping the flowers will be useful for dressing a particular hat I have in mind)
1 hat (buckram/millinery wire shaped number)
My 2019 temperature blanket (though I can’t really do anymore on it)
2 crossstitches
1 crossstitch/embroidered quilt (this is a long term project).
Re-sizing a raincoat for my dog Blush
Knitted cardigan for moi

I’m trying to not buy anything more than notions and interfacing this year. It is VERY hard. And I’ve already broken this, was offered a new job on Monday and to celebrate I went online right away and ordered another load of fabric, mustard denim for a jacket Grin
Neee to make some good progress on this list ASAP. I have a lot in mind to Make this year. My next big project is to sew a pair of dungarees for a friends DS, I plan to appliqué the butterfly life cycle onto the dungarees.. so will also be making (via fabric paint and embroidery) the various components of the life cycle.

drspouse · 19/01/2019 21:32

1 row of temperature blanket done - I don't have the colour for Jan 2nd!

LonelyOversharer · 19/01/2019 21:34

How did I never know about a temperature blanket???

Why have I not recorded the temperature every day forever so far this year??

I have spent 2 hours watching you tube and perousing wool warehouse, and unsuccessfully trying to find out the last 18 days temperature here... my blanket might need to be a 19th January to 19th January thing!

Still working on the border of my big blanket. 3.25 rounds done. 2.75 to go. Ugh it is boring.

TheWoollybacksWife · 19/01/2019 22:00

Could you see if one of the MN weather gurus could help? OYBBK or GloriaSmud might be able to tell you the temperature if you let them know your location.

LonelyOversharer · 19/01/2019 22:01

Woo-hoo my nearest village has a wee weather station. Graph interpreted! I like daily data.

So, how big are the bands in your temp ranges? I'm thinking 2.5° as otherwise it will seriously just be freezing cold ice blue for 3 months of squares! I'm thinking a dk granny square, 2 rounds for max daily, 2 rounds for min daily? A nice silvery grey to border and join up. I love aqua/blue/violet/magenta so will trawl my stash and pull some balls. This should not be any kind of problem to find 20+ balls of dk in my fave colours. I found 3 balls without moving from my spot Blush

((I appreciate this is NOT a wip...see how quickly a whiff of a new project turns my head))

Back to the border of my blanket I go.
