Anyone for a WIP thread?

LonelyOversharer · 04/01/2019 20:40

With the new year, I'm going for a low spend 2019.

On this note I have exactly eleventy million wip's to finish (rather than buy new yarn to start snother project). Does anyone else fancy a thread where we dig out old projects, start to finish those endless crochet blankets or just jolly each other along?

To start, I have a "door blanket" mid crochet (2m x 1m), and 4 christmas elves I knitted but did not finish.

I'm predominantly a knitter and bad crocheter, but any wip crafts welcome.

Anyone?

Thanks lonely now I want it to be dark so I can wear it to full effect!
I must sort out getting my sewing machine fixed. It gave up mid-Christmas sewing but I borrowed one.

QuiteFrugal2019 · 11/01/2019 12:03

Hello north and Lonely Smile
Have sorted my wips and have
1.Hat using some Rico Luxury Magic Mohair .Its soft and sparkly which is very unlike me Grin
2.
Mara shawl in some lovely Madelinetoosh
3.Socks 😪
4.
Jumper in Drops Lima
I just need to crack on so aiming to knit in this order and finish the hat over the weekend.
There are so many lovely things I want to start Blush

SaturdayNext · 11/01/2019 14:33

At the moment - all crochet:

Mittens - nearly finished
Lattice-work type cardigan that was originally intended as a Christmas present but is now going to have to be a "Well I've made this for you so you'd better have it" present. It's quite quick and I just have the sleeves and sewing up to do.
Some squares in Aran for a blanket for charity.
A blanket I started doing trying out different stitches and colours. I think I abandoned it because I wanted to do something more mindless whilst watching TV, but I do intend to go back to it and finish it.
A rather complicated lacy summer top. Not going back to that one till summer is closer, maybe I'll be more motivated then.

Also I have around half of Attic24's Moorland blanket done. However, it was one of my first projects after I started to learn to crochet and I never reallly understood how to keep the edges straight. I'm wondering whether I'm brave enough to undo it all and start again.

MollyHuaCha · 12/01/2019 06:53

@SaturdayNext There's possibly no need to undo your blanket - add a generous border and you can scoop all the uneven ends into it.

SoupDragon · 12/01/2019 08:27

The ripple I'm doing has wonky edges and mistakes in the first third. It is part of its history! In all honesty, they aren't really noticeable now and with a border they'll be even less noticeable.

SaturdayNext · 12/01/2019 08:51

That's encouraging. Maybe I'll dig it out and reassess the situation, the prospect of doing it all again hasn't been very inviting.

In other news, I finished the mittens last night, just in time for the cold weather. Feels good to have one project off my list!

Hello (waves to Lonely, Quite and North).

I think I might be the worst person on this thread for WIPs Blush. And still I keep finding new things I want to start. I’m going to try and make a list of my yarn WIPs now :

  1. A crochet Christmas wreath. 75% done but I can’t remember what hook size I was using for the main strip Angry
  1. An Aran knit dress for DD (dress aged 3-4, she’s not yet 2 thankfully). Quite tricky to follow the pattern, can’t do it in front of the telly. I’ll be amazed if this gets done in time 😫
  1. Attic 24 crochet blanket. About 1/3 done. I’m not so keen on crochet atm and also not so keen on the colours any more.
  1. A pair of socks. Almost done 1, first ever socks, don’t think I’m a sock person
  1. A small shawl /scarf thing. Very mindless and a bit dull to knit (garter stripes). Nice alpaca yarn though
  1. An entrelac hat I finished but need to reknit the crown because it was a variegated yarn that just happened to go strangely pale just on the crown. It looks like 2 different yarns. I will reknit with the end of another ball (but am quite scared of trying to pick up the stitches...). Have the matching giant scarf that needs blocking too.
  1. A crochet windowpane scarf. About halfway through but made it too wide so need to frog it and start again 🙄. Am concerned the fancy Madeline tosh yarn won’t recover though
  1. A striped jumper I started for myself in cotton yarn. Almost half done. I think by the time I finish it I’ll have lost too much weight and it won’t fit. So not very motivated with that either!

Projects I am doing that are lots of small things but I want to add to them:

  1. Knitted Christmas baubles
  1. Mini Christmas jumpers for bunting. (I’ve done about 30, all different, but have made up a load of designs I haven’t yet knitted. And some friends have requested some too)

Actually it’s awful but not as bad as I feared... though this doesn’t include projects where I’ve bought yarn but not started yet!

I did finish 2 things over Christmas - a scarf for myself with fancy yarn and I sewed the buttons onto a pinafore for dd that I finished knitting a year ago. Yay me!

I might need therapy.

I might try to attack the hat and the wreath as a priority, between knitting baubles. Work and kids really interfere with my crafting though Grin

LonelyOversharer · 12/01/2019 13:42

Oh wow seacow ! I have a hank of Madeline Tosh that I daren't wind. It is glorious, but I'll never knit with it. If you've gone off the colours in the attic 24 blanket, I'd rip it out and store the yarn for later. Then thats one out of the way. Or finish it at the size it is now and give it to dd to use as a tea party blanket?

Yes, work doesn't half interfere! Before I went full time I would sit and knit all afternoon!

I'm going to do an honest, current wip list today.

Im not overly keen on single ply yarns like Madelinetosh Merino Singles, although I do have several sweater quantities Blush
Its beautiful in the hand, but doesnt wear well.
Having said that Im doing a Mara shawl in it,will be occasional use only .
I will use it up out of my stash but wont buy more.
Sea if you need therapy then maybe Lonely and I could join you and get a group deal 😂

ChristmasSeacow · 12/01/2019 17:22

The merino light is 4ply and ver soft and naice. I’ve been using more hand dyed and posh yarns recently, especially for scarves - I don’t knit in serious volume so it doesn’t break the bank. I still use acrylics and cheaper wools for decorations, toys and blankets. But I do love madlinetosh...

drspouse · 12/01/2019 19:42

Well I haven't done any sewing but I did some tidying in my sewing cave. And some mending and name tape sewing. And cast on a new cardigan for DD Blush. Aran weight recycled yarn I got in France on holiday.
I have at least 1 or 2 jumpers' worth of nice yarn for me but I can't remember what I was planning to do with it.

gemdrop84 · 12/01/2019 19:49

I have one wip and a few ideas. After crocheting lap blankets and throws for christmas presents, I decided to make myself a blanket for next winter. Trying out tunisian crochet- so far so good! I've also got lots of scraps so I'd like to learn how to make granny squares from them. I've also bought some cross stitch kits and thread but am not sure I'll have time to do both.

Anyone for a WIP thread?
LonelyOversharer · 13/01/2019 08:57

gemdrop that is lovely. I'm a sucker for variegated yarn with a sheen. What is it? It's a stitch I don't recognise, but spot the knitpro circular! I adore knitpro needles.

So. The wip's. The photo is from what is just in my bedroom! It includes...

  1. The doorway blanket, I started going round for a border last night. This needs to be 40mm wide as I'm going to put navy herringbone tape round it so it doesn't slouch too much hung up (only on cold evenings).
  2. The aran blanket I started for cag's dd2 (who is well over 1 now).
  3. Several toys, mermaids part knitted. An octopus with curly tentacles.
  4. A lovely summer top in a Scheepjes whirl 😍 yarn. Stalled 2/3 down the yoke.
  5. A tin of nativity figures. 2 part 4ply sets done, several aran knitted and I think 4 full sets knitted in dk. Not sewn up or finished. Considering I can sell each set for between £80 and £120 depending on size and animals, you think I'd have more drive to get them done.
  6. A denim jacket, just 2" into the back. I think I'll rip this out and leave for later ever
  7. Two blankets in stylecraft batik for dd2 (navy border) and dd3 (cream border). Need finishing. Obvs.
  8. A crochet bag. Would need a couple more inches added, lined and strap from denim.
  9. Four and a bit fairies/pixies knitted not sewn up. Like the nativity sets, sell for about £25 so why can't I finish them.

Still have 6 dogs to knit for etsy, and 2 wee cats for girlie.

And then there's my storage in the "shed". Lots of part knitted mermaids, odd ideas, and a solitary sock that I can think off, there will be more.

The second pic is just yarn lying around, that hasn't made it to my stash yet. I have a big problem. Some of you might have seen a pic of my stash, but it rivals my local wool shop. It is mostly made up of odd balls, so everytime I think of a new project I have (of course I don't actually have) to buy new yarn. At Christmas I pulled 14 balls of Drops Alpaca to give to my mum without making a dint in the box.

I seem to have broken my paperclip button. The second pic of shame won't attach!

Oh, there's also a kal blanket from christmas that is 3/4 through the first square. I only bought 4 100g balls of yarn to do this. And I can't find the entrelac scarf I started for dd2.

TheWoollybacksWife · 14/01/2019 12:20

I have finished the starburst/granny blanket AND made a couple more squares for Woolly Hugs. All ends are darned in 😇 and I'm just using the last of the grey and pink yarn to make a hat for Woolly Hugs. When I post my parcel tomorrow I'll buy buttons for the cardigans and finish them too.

Thats really good going woolyback well done. I like that starburst pattern, good colourway too.

I'm on the 3rd round of the border of my blanket. I was going to order a ball of navy to do it, but have used up the 2 purples, will go for the next largest amount (dark teal) next, and then do a final outside round of navy, hopefully using up balls instead of buying them!

A work colleague put out a plea for fabric so I'm donating a few bits and yes, barely a dent in the stash-er-oo. Whilst I was in my den, I found the note I'd scribbled for myself last summer to make a tote bag for a friend's birthday....her birthday is in October. I did send her a card though!

ChristmasSeacow · 15/01/2019 13:22

Love the starburst blanket Wooly.

That’s a fairly big list Lonely but a lot of it is small stuff and at the rate you knit it’s be finished quickly if you were minded to do it.

I have a massive bunch of yarn to send back as I ordered several colours for the bauble project (I know my screen colours are rubbish but I don’t know how to fix it so I hedged my bets). Once that’s done I will relax a bit - I have firm for keavibgvthese things too late!

I knitted a bauble on Saturday but am not really happy with it - the colour needs to be as strong as possible to contrast with the white and this wasn’t really. And my tension was a bit too tight. I shall knit it again. Not much time for knitting this week as I’ve a lot of work on.

Next thing is to redo the crown of my hat and sew in the ends of the massive entrelac scarf so I can block it.

Then the wreath. Just so I can tidy it out of my massive WIP basket, which is literally cascading all over the floor.

Dodie66 · 15/01/2019 13:31

I’m glad I’m not the only one that buys stuff for future project. My craft room is full up. I really need to get rid of some of it. I was looking at the Persian tile crochet as well.i found a close up of one motif on google. Something else to try in the future

Ooh can I join? I never get around to finishing my projects. I've got about a million ideas to design but struggling for time at the moment.

I've got designs in my head for a money box, height chart and activity table for my DS. I've purchased the table from Ikea, so no excuses now. I've got lots of ideas for the table I'm thinking white board, black board, Lego base, duplo base and roads/tracks.

I have been to town and bought buttons for the pink cardigans and some more wool

I have also cast on the second wrist warmer 🎉🎉

I do have a bit of a yarn albatross hanging around my neck though. I have a whole pack of Sirdar Tiny Tots yarn in Apple Green hiding in my yarn drawers. I inherited it from my late DM when her hands got too sore for knitting. I don't mind the slubbed yarn and I have got patterns for it but the colour does nothing for me and what do I do with the hats and cardigans after I've knitted them?

Dodie66 · 15/01/2019 15:17

Why not use it wil another yarn tomake something. You could use it for stripes of just do borders and ribs with it

SoupDragon · 15/01/2019 17:01

what do I do with the hats and cardigans after I've knitted them?

Are they suitable for the woolly hugs refugee project?
