Anyone for a WIP thread?

With the new year, I'm going for a low spend 2019.

On this note I have exactly eleventy million wip's to finish (rather than buy new yarn to start snother project). Does anyone else fancy a thread where we dig out old projects, start to finish those endless crochet blankets or just jolly each other along?

To start, I have a "door blanket" mid crochet (2m x 1m), and 4 christmas elves I knitted but did not finish.

I'm predominantly a knitter and bad crocheter, but any wip crafts welcome.

Anyone?

Moved on to the sleeves on DD's cardigan, but I decided to make them longer as I have quite a bit of wool left.

Eagerly tapping my toes as I wait for my temperature blanket wool, and my sewing machine is fixed (we can pick up later) but my overlocker appears to be broken! Aaargh!

SoupDragon · 23/01/2019 21:18

I have finished my oldest WIP! All ends are also darned in 😇

LonelyOversharer · 23/01/2019 21:29

Well done soup any chance of a pic?

On the very last round of my blanket...I have had enough! And it's navy blue so horrid to do in the evening. I will reward with temp blanket extra yarns (I pulled about 15 from my stash, just want a few 'fillers' where the jumps are too big) once this blanket is done. At least it is warm over my knees.

Im on the edging of my shawl
Will knit until I finish the yarn.
Then my socks to do.Hmm

ChristmasSeacow · 23/01/2019 22:11

I need to re-knit that entrelac hat crown so I can wear the thing - it’s cold!

SoupDragon · 23/01/2019 22:32

I will take a picture but it was too dark :)

SoupDragon · 24/01/2019 12:14

Pictures. I can see a couple of pesky ends to sew in, dammit!

Good work soup is that an Attic24 neat ripple? Looks very calming. I can report 1 cable headband finished.

CaptainTurdseye · 24/01/2019 14:49

That is a gorgeous blanket

SoupDragon · 24/01/2019 14:51

It is - although the first third is certainly not neat! I am impressed at how forgiving of mistakes crochet is.

I need to pick another WIP now. If only I had a lot to choose from... (nervous cough)

SoupDragon · 24/01/2019 14:52

Thank you. It's nice and weighty too as it's a cotton/kapok mix. I'm looking forward to some sofa snuggling with it!

hunibuni · 24/01/2019 15:09

Ahhh my people! Currently have 7 quilts to sandwich and quilt, 6 to quilt, 3 that are either partially quilted or waiting for binding and several cough scrap buster blocks that need to be organised. In my defence, I'm waiting for payday to order a full bolt of batting (nearly £200 🤤). Oh, and to sort out setting up an Etsy shop.

LonelyOversharer · 26/01/2019 08:30

soup that is lovely! A blanket cuddled round you does not mind if there are early on wibbly bits! photos in knitting mags of sample jumpers with HUGE MISTAKES in them, however

Am just back from an epic 700mile 2 day trip to my Grandmothers funeral...our master crafter. My auntie said "she's happy in yarn now". She taught me a lot, always shared bits of stash, her button tin is such a vivid childhood memory. Sorry to derail.

Haven't done a thing consequently for days. But I must finish an order off today or 3

huni I haven't quilted since before dd2 (who is almost 13), but love the quilts I did before. The quilting is the never ending bit isn't it? I might have asked begged, pleaded my mum to quilt a pinky purple sawtooth cat quilt for dd1....it took her 4 years! And now dd1 is far too old for the colours! My mum is a finisher though, and does not understand me and my wip habit!

Batting, proper stuff, is eyewateringly expensive, but worth it for the end result.

Keep going everyone!

I'm finally heading into the home stretch on a Christmas stocking that I have been cross stitching since spring. I am usually quite quick, and had a good bash at it during the heat wave in the summer when I was off my feet after an ankle operation, but since going on holiday in September, I have barely had time to turn around and my days 'off' have not involved my favourite pastime of sitting on my arse, watching crap telly and stitching! I have another 4 stockings in the list to stitch. I think I have enough fabric and threads to make them, which is good, so all I need is time...

SoupDragon · 26/01/2019 08:59

I don't much care either as it does show how far I've come in the 6.5 years it took me 😂😂

If nothing else, it has definitely proved that foundation DC (or whatever) is better than a starting chain (or use a fatter hook and loose stitching for the chain).

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. My mum gave me the family button tin a few years ago and it included items I remember from her mother's sewing basket - happy days!

SoupDragon · 26/01/2019 09:02

I am a bad, bad dragon. I started a new project last night. It uses up some yarn I've had in my stash for a good few years so it counts as a WIP though.

QuiteFrugal2019 · 26/01/2019 10:08

My granny was a crafter, gardener and stasher -that must be where I get it from!
So happy that my DD has taken up the reins.
Shouldmustfinish my shawl ,will watch the tennis early tomorrow and hope it goes to 5 sets Grin
I ordered 3 balls of Drops Kidsilk £11 something but will use 3 other skeins from stash
Onwards !

drspouse · 26/01/2019 10:40

My grandma and mum are/were knitters too but the level of fibre snob has increased over the generations!
Up to about the 21st in my temperature blanket but my overlocker is now broken (possible bit of broken needle in the mechanism). But I do have my now-not-broken sewing machine back from the menders so some sewing may be done.

LonelyOversharer · 27/01/2019 07:38

My blanket edge is done!! Ends darned in. Will photo later. I am so pleased I have finished it.

I just ordered 7m of navy blue webbing to stitch round the back of the border, as it will get hung in the living room doorway on cold nights to stop the gale that seems to blow through.

I also checked out wool warehouse yesterday, with the "fill in" colours for my temperature blanket. When it arrives I'll get going, catch up, then try to keep up! Will join as I go.

Have knitted 5 little dogs, will finish them today. Also was a big girl and messaged the buyer to apologise for them taking so long.

Congratulations on beating the ends octopus lonely! I would like to do a temperature cushion so i can do multiple years, but I don't know what medium would work to make a square 365 rows x 365 - embroidery maybe? I finished a doll's outfit for my niece last night and now need to audit the WIP archive.

hunibuni · 27/01/2019 11:35

Finished binding one quilt and just have 10 more inches to do on this one! I like to finish the binding by hand while watching box sets, so I'm well caught up now 🤣 Still have to finish quilting one that I started then lost the will...

DownUdderer · 28/01/2019 03:07

Congrats to everyone who’s been diligent with their wip’s!

Earlier I mentioned I was using three or four strands if yarn to crochet (to use up some stash) and someone asked what I meant! I just hold all four strands together as if it was one big fat strand and crochet with a big fat hook! The blanket will be extra chunky!

I’ve ordered new fabric today after seeing a beautiful quilt on a blog! I needed some strong saturated solid coloured fabrics. I obviously didn’t need fabric at all, but it was a lovely treat to buy it!!

QuiteFrugal2019 · 28/01/2019 07:20

Finished my shawl Halo
Washed and currently blocking .
I love it Smile
Cracking on with my jumper ,luckily I take notes so just able to jump right back to where I was.

drspouse · 28/01/2019 09:20

I had a bit more of a go at sewing my jacket last night, broke 2 more needles, but managed two (and one WRONG WAY ROUND) seams OK if I go slowly. Not in my nature!
Mended my coat pockets too - I'd lost my phone down the lining twice so it was time!

ChristmasSeacow · 29/01/2019 23:30

Let’s see your blanket then Lonely!

I am really trying to progress with WIPs and at least reduce the number a little! Over the last couple of nights I’ve picked up the Attic-24 style crocheted Christmas wreath i started a couple of years back, and which I’d abandoned simply because I couldn’t remember what hook size I was using for the wreath ring cover... anyway, I’ve finished it and sewn it all up and it looks pretty good (I’ll attach a picture). I pinned a few of the flowers and leaves on from my bag of finished bits but I definitely don’t have enough. They are quite fun to do though so I’ll get on with that over the next few nights. I need to pin out and lightly starch the Holly and mistletoe leaves so I’ll try to do that over the weekend too.

Maybe I actually will have this finished for Christmas 2019 Wink
