Anyone for a WIP thread?

With the new year, I'm going for a low spend 2019.

On this note I have exactly eleventy million wip's to finish (rather than buy new yarn to start snother project). Does anyone else fancy a thread where we dig out old projects, start to finish those endless crochet blankets or just jolly each other along?

To start, I have a "door blanket" mid crochet (2m x 1m), and 4 christmas elves I knitted but did not finish.

I'm predominantly a knitter and bad crocheter, but any wip crafts welcome.

Anyone?

Cross stitcher here! I have 10 wips. A few of them are Christmas ones so very late on those!

YouWereRight · 04/01/2019 21:45

I have 3 half finished dresses Blush

I have a couple of crochet blankets the need finishing, and a crochet jumper.

LonelyOversharer · 04/01/2019 21:53

Oh good, there are more of you like me! I figured I couldn't be the only one.

My crochet blanket is a cobble of another WIP that was never going to get done...a knitted coat a bit like Joseph's Technicolor Dreamcoat Blush what was I thinking! It did leave me with a lot of Caron aran yarn, in shades from mint, teal, blue and purple. It's icicle stitch, as I can only do doubles and trebles!

I will also admit to having two outstanding etsy orders from before christmas BlushBlush my things are made to order, but I must absolutely finish them before monday.

My current WIPs - a horribly vibrant rainbow ripple blanket for DS, an Edward's Menagerie lion kit that I was given for Christmas, various granny squares of yarn ends that are meant to make a blanket at some point and a stack of squares for a Hobbycraft blanket. And that's not including the request to make a blanket for granny-in-law who has a June birthday. Oh, and I'd really like to try a Sophie's Garden

I may be here a while...

MyArris · 05/01/2019 00:45

I need to crack on with a Persian Tiles blanket and a Stylecraft tartan project. I fear the Persian Tiles will take me all year to crochet!

LonelyOversharer · 05/01/2019 08:47

I've wanted to try Persian tiles...don't think my crochet is up to it. Any chance of some pics??

I have about a foot left of my bkanket, it's just stripes, so I'm doing a couple of stripes a day. Sewed in all the ends at Christmas, and have done 2 foot since then. For once, I just want sonething finished!

Then I'll dig out some of the started garments and see what I have. Oh, and I have 2 almost finished (done the squares, just need to border then and crochet them together (the yawn bit) of two single bed size blankets for dd2 and dd3. Done in stylecraft batik after seeing one on pintrest. Honestly it never ends!

Hi,
In the middle of granny square jumper front and back done, chunky jumper just needs one sleeve and neck to finish, and a cardigan for my sister's 50th birthday last July.

I start projects with loads of gusto, get bored and move on to another.

I've promised myself to finish all 3 of these before starting anything else, so I'm in!

LonelyOversharer · 05/01/2019 10:51

Great! We must finish up some projects! YY to getting bored and moving on. Guilty!

I have spent the morning knitting the pieces for one of the etsy orders. Then I must sew up and finish. Once this order is boxed I will feel much more at ease. Then I can do some crochet as a reward..

comeagainforbigfudge · 05/01/2019 15:18

Me 2!

Ive decided this is the year i crack knitting. I know how to, but always give up befor i accomplish anything. Going to go buy wool 2mor to make a jumper. Im a bit excited about the prospect 😳

But that might be because im freezing Grin

MyArris · 05/01/2019 19:40

Ummm. When I say "crack on" I meant START the Persian Tiles Blush so no chance of pics from me just yet!

I've had the kit for ages. I promised myself I would start it this week, but it's Saturday and I have a shawl to finish. Aarghhhh!

LonelyOversharer · 05/01/2019 19:57

myarris how close to the end of the shawl are you? I find shawls get left quite quickly as you start with 3 sts or a bit of icord, and end up with 678 or something awful, and then do a border...

OP posts:
MyArris · 05/01/2019 22:14

Luckily, my sister knows I hate shawls for exactly that reason so she picked a rectangular one with no border. I'm doing it in DK though instead of the Aran recommended. It's this one

Did you finish your order?

Anyone for a WIP thread?
LonelyOversharer · 06/01/2019 00:02

Knitting and sewing up done. Just bells and beads to go! Will post a pic when finished, the buyer is in the States, so I'm sure she won't mind. Every wip finished is a win.

Thats lovely btw, I am a sucker for any denim type yarn. I'll do a stripe of crochet before sleep tonight.

I am currently finishing the neckband of my Christmas jumper (started 2016). Will be wearing it as I put the decorations away tonight Xmas Grin

SoupDragon · 06/01/2019 16:16

I am currently trying to finish my oldest wip - a ripple blanket I started in 2011. I think I have about 6 inches to go then ends and border.

fairgroundsnack · 06/01/2019 16:17

I made a Persian tiles blanket for my youngest - started in early pregnancy and just about finished for his first birthday! Currently collecting squares for a willow blanket for my middle one, have been doing those for about 4 years... also have a cricket sweater for the eldest on my needles...!

LonelyOversharer · 06/01/2019 20:08

Well done choppolata 2 years to finish a jumper is not bad. Considering I bet it's been sitting smirking at you for a long time untouched!

soup I love a ripple pattern. Knit or crochet? Woo-hoo to nearly being done.

How easy are the Persian tiles? Not that I'm starting another blanket until the 4 (good grief) I have in progress are done.

MollyHuaCha · 06/01/2019 20:24

Just searched and I love the Persian tiles! Can't see details of the pattern without buying it though, so I've no idea if it's doable.

Anyone for a WIP thread?
WhenDoISleep · 06/01/2019 20:46

Definitely a thread for me to join in with. I mostly knit and cross stitch. I can crochet but am very slow and it doesn't feel very natural to me. I also flirted with dressmaking a few years ago but struggled to find the time, knitting is much easier to pick up for short random periods I find, particularly if the pattern is straightforward enough.

Current outstanding WIPs off the top of my head are:

  • 2 toy hedgehogs for my DC's
  • toys for Woolly Hugs Christmas appeal (think I started these 2 years ago now)
  • blanket for Woolly Hugs Angel Hug project
  • blanket for Woolly Hugs Little Hug project
  • knitted Christmas wreath (started Dec 18)
  • 3 knitted Christmas ornaments (started Dec 18)
  • random blanket (I started this 21yrs ago and it was packed in a box till I found it last summer - suspect it will go to Woolly Hugs when I finish it)
  • knitted Christmas bunting (started Dec 18)
  • 3 small cross stitch samplers
  • Christmas cross stitch sampler (this was a SAL from last Autumn, I started but didn't even complete the first part Blush)

In addition I have a list of at least 10 projects I have already purchased the yarn for. Plus another (large) cross stitch sampler I would like to complete for my DC.

In 2018, I had similar aims of finishing loads of outstanding WIPs and not purchasing any new yarns etc. but stash busting instead. I was pretty good in the first half of the year and completed a few things plus used up some of my stash for a Little Hug over the summer. Things didn't go so well in the later part of the year.

SoupDragon · 06/01/2019 21:28

It's a crochet ripple. I don't knit :) I liked a ripple when I started it... I'm less enamoured with it now!

LonelyOversharer · 06/01/2019 21:48

But you're nearly done soup keep going! All patterns are hideous when you've done it too many times.

whendo you sound a lot like me. I am always buying yarn, fabric, beads, threads...new things pop into my mind, and it's like I can't stop until all the stuff is bought and ready, a bit started...and then the next idea comes along.

I blame Pintrest!

WhenDoISleep · 06/01/2019 22:40

That's very much what I do - not all the time but a lot of the time. I got completely distracted looking at some absolutely gorgeous kits to make tree ornaments based on the 12 Days of Christmas just before the school holidays - I had to give myself (and got my sister to join in) a stern talk to to stop me buying it.

The DC are back to school tomorrow (hooray!) and I need to get the living room and bathroom pulled back into some sort of order, but I'm going to take an hour before school pick up and pull all the small WIPs together and decide on some sort of order to tackle them in. Some (Christmas Wreath that has actually been on an internal door for 3 weeks) are 95% complete so it would be good to get them off the list. Others (Christmas cross stitch I'm looking at you) are barely started so only just creep onto the WIP list.

I'm also going to go through my stash at some point this month and list all the projects I have materials for and work out what I can achieve this year (over and above completing WIPs).

diamantegal · 06/01/2019 22:52

Here's my half finished ripple - too lazy to get up and do a decent photo of it. And I'm genuinely half way through - 44 rows of of 85 plus border.

Colour choices courtesy of 8 year old DS - I've made him an Attic 24 Coast ripple, but he decided he wanted his own colours.

That said, it's lovely to see him snuggle under a blanket I've made - the coast ripple is used so much in the winter mornings. I'm making it for the fun of the making - the fact it gets used is a huge bonus.
