Anyone for a WIP thread?

With the new year, I'm going for a low spend 2019.

On this note I have exactly eleventy million wip's to finish (rather than buy new yarn to start snother project). Does anyone else fancy a thread where we dig out old projects, start to finish those endless crochet blankets or just jolly each other along?

To start, I have a "door blanket" mid crochet (2m x 1m), and 4 christmas elves I knitted but did not finish.

I'm predominantly a knitter and bad crocheter, but any wip crafts welcome.

Anyone?

I'm doing 2° with two "and then" bands at 1° or lower and 29° or higher. Same issue as you!

LonelyOversharer · 19/01/2019 23:34

I think for the north (I'm in cumbria but very close to the border with Scotland), 2° sounds about right! Quite excited at the prospect of using up some of my enormous stash! Have found a white with silver thread (Hayfield baby sparkle) for the very coldest...will work up from there!

I've some work to do tomorrow, but once dp is up I'm going to open my yarn boxes on the bed to rummage, and put away roughly 200 loose balls that are roaming about, all of this lot for starters! and a load in kallax boxes

Lonely nice stash !GrinWink
Mine is now all in Kallax lots of Kallax
I finished a hat and its probably my most favorite knitted item.
Its in silvery mohair and non itchy .
So simple but lovely.

Can I join? I'm a crocheter who dabbles in knitting. I've got a granny square blanket that I'm half way through - it was originally for DD1 to take to university but she's taking a year out so my deadline has moved. Then there's the jumper which just needs sleeves but I'm on my third attempt as the decreases are confounding me! Also got a secret paths shawl underway but that's getting done in my lunch break at work.

I was going to go to a yarn show today but have decided it is unlikely to support my UFO-busting mission polishes halo

ChristmasSeacow · 20/01/2019 08:55

I am in awe of your stash Lonely! Grin

I finished another bauble last night. This isn’t quite in the spirit of finishing WIPs but I am so enjoying it. And I will have a very poncetastic tree next year Wink

ChristmasSeacow · 20/01/2019 08:57

Ooh Choppolata I think I might know where you mean. DH has suggested he takes the kids out nearby and I pop into it .

But no, definitely not in the spirit of WIP-busting Smile

nickknowleshalfateacake · 20/01/2019 09:38

Argh - yes I have WIPS - but predictably I've seen something I want to do! - I hope you don't mind @youlooklikeaclown the finger crochet rug with fabric scraps sounds like the project my large bag of old sheets has been waiting for - can you please give me an idea of where I can find out how to do this? Many thanks

Ps WIPS:

  1. Tank top - first crochet clothing project - just needs sewing together (been in this state for about 2 years)
  2. Scarf - just need to make sure it's the right length and decide on a border. Then matching wrist warmers. And maybe a hat. Though it'll probably be summer by that time.
  3. Blanket - granny square - something to stash bust with, ongoing no-brain project

christmas stop tempting me! I've got about 2" to go on a cabled headband and then I have to drive in that direction... arrgh!

SoupDragon · 20/01/2019 12:54

Presumably you have lots of WIPs that still have to make it out of your head because they are waiting for just the right yarn....

LonelyOversharer · 20/01/2019 15:27

Ok. My stash is done. Pretty much collated everything together into the appropriate box.
11 x 80l boxes. 6 x 30l boxes. Rammed full.
Plus I found another 3 part knitted sweaters. Honestly these will never be done, have put them with the yarn barf for sorting out later.

So. I don't really know how it got to this point.

I am clearly a compulsive yarn buyer and hoarder. The stupid thing is that the stuff I sell is knitted mainly in 4ply or 1ply (1.25mm needles)... so why do I buy so much yarn?? I used to have a lot more. Last year I made over £250 selling off my cones of yarn...after I wound 100g off each of course, just in case Confused

When I can get the paperclip to work, I will share my shame!

I have a problem with "rescuing" yarn collections from charity shops. And buttons. I will never ever need to purchase another button in my life (and beyond)

QuiteFrugal2019 · 20/01/2019 16:12

I personally dont see that its a problem Lonely
I have tons of yarn but tend to go high end now.
I dont smoke, drink or even snack Grinso bollocks Im buying yarn !

Shock
QuiteFrugal2019 · 20/01/2019 18:24

I love that you have done it in colours Lonely
The fact Im not flinching tells you I think thats a normal amount for a dedicated knitter.
SABLE - Stash acquisition beyond life expectancy 😂😉

choppolata · 20/01/2019 19:03

Lonely wow I am impressed!! I have only 3 boxes worth of stash. Perhaps I should have gone to the show today after all!

drspouse · 20/01/2019 19:45

Hmmm maybe I should come round and, er, help you with that.

ChristmasSeacow · 20/01/2019 22:33

😂 and I love the fact that you keep being tempted by more !

Today I bought 3 skeins of naice yarn and some needle felting stuff to make a Halloween wreath for the front door. I only had s. Hour at the show as the DCs were being pains... probably a good thing Grin

No knitting tonight, I’m paying my tax bill and doing other admin. And tidying my very messy house.

northender · 21/01/2019 06:20

I love that it makes my fabric stash seem so insignificant!

DownUdderer · 21/01/2019 06:36

I started crocheting a blanket recently that is using three or four balls at once (I can’t remember because I haven’t crocheted in a month) it made me feel good that I was using up loads of yarn! But it doesn’t really make a dent in my stash!

DownUdderer · 21/01/2019 06:37

I’m using a size 12 crochet hook (I think)

LonelyOversharer · 21/01/2019 08:00

Is that 3 yarns held together to make a 'puff' type pattern I sit on pintrest a lot or a crochet intarsia? Both sound very difficult! With knitting I can always manage, but crochet is hard !!

Very frosty here this morning, when I do my temp square it will be the sparkly white for sure!

I ordered one Caron simply soft navy from amazon (to avoid a wool warehouse checkout) at £4.99 to finish the border of my blanket. I want to go round 3 times in navy, and the yarn left might go 1 1/4, but then It. Will. Be. Finished.

So sorry nickknowleshalfateacake I fell down the YouTube rabbit hole finding this link for you.

Although she uses wool roving instead of fabric, it's a good demo for the tricky second row. She also mentions to make a note of the number of loops in your row, I didn't and found I had a rhombus shaped rug, but I wove more fabric into the wonky bits. HTH
