I never thought I’d agree with Putin or his decisions but he is planning to soon sign a new law that means pedophiles are forced to be chemically castrated.
(I don’t think it was his idea but he’ll still get the credit for signing it).

For me this is the most obvious solution and I do not understand why this isn’t common policy in every country.

Chemical castration is painless and can be reversed, so it’s not like we’re denying them their human rights or whatever.

I would argue that any sort of sexual crime should result in chemical castration but you would think peadophiles should have this done automatically.

So why is it not law in this country or most other countries that I know of?

There was a thread the other day about a peado and lots of posters agreed he could never be rehabilitated, but he would still eventually get out.
So surely forcing chemical castration would at least reduce his chances of reoffending.

Interested to know other peoples views.

YABU - chemical castration should not be made law (and why).

YANBU - forced chemical castration should be law.

disgusting policy, and totally ineffectual, all research shows that such a punishment simply make perpetrators massively more violent.

I don’t know.

What is the effect of ‘chemical castration’?

Does it remove all sexual interest / impetus? Or just the ability to have sex?

continentallentil · 07/08/2023 23:53

YABU for your stupid thread title.

Yarnorama · 07/08/2023 23:53

It doesn't work.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/08/2023 23:53

He’d have to castrate himself in that case.

But also YABU

They did it in America and all it did was to turn them into sexual torturers or killers. The drive/desire etc just gets redirected.

TooOldToBeSoYoung · 07/08/2023 23:54

Nice sound bite.

And then when the chemically castrated paedophile reoffends what do you do?

Boomboom22 · 07/08/2023 23:55

Yabu because it doesn't work anyway. It's about power mostly not sexual desire as such. And there are side effects.

SwordToFlamethrower · 07/08/2023 23:56

I don't think it goes far enough. I think nothing less than total castration for all sex offenders, plus a prison sentence.

KrisAkabusi · 07/08/2023 23:59

No, because it's a slippery slope to other laws that remove bodily/medical autonomy.

GoingInsaneAhhh · 08/08/2023 00:00

I think just shooting them would be the better way

SomewhereWithSomeone · 08/08/2023 00:01

I’d prefer they were just killed.

RitzyMcFitzy · 08/08/2023 00:01

In 2017 Putin decriminalised domestic violence, so I wouldn't look to him for any policies that actually benefit vulnerable Russians.

Flickersy · 08/08/2023 00:01

Firstly paedophilia is not a crime, it's an involuntary innate disorder. You can't punish people if they haven't committed a crime and you can't punish someone for having a serious disorder.

Secondly, there is no proof that chemical castration actually removes this disorder.

What we should be focussing on is more robust sentencing guidelines for sexual abuse of children and research into the causes of paedophilia so it can be better treated.

Right. So castration for Andrew Malkinson then.

Exactly. In what civilised society are you going to force prisoners to have parts of their anatomy modified? Any prisoner, any part of their anatomy - what would the next step be? What about miscarriages of justice, and innocent men being permanently physically damaged? You would not be so keen if it was your partner of son undergoing such a "punishment"

Completely agree with this.

HRTQueen · 08/08/2023 00:19

As a punishment for repeat child sex offenders while also being kept in prison yes I would support that

but i absolutely do not support this as an alternative to a long prison sentence or used as treatment for those who have sexual attraction to children, this doesn’t have to be acted on and we should not be treated people (mainly men) who do with sympathy

Probably put them 8n prison gorgeous murder at that point, as it increases violent offending.
