To agree with Putin. *MNHQ adding content warning for CSA*

I never thought I’d agree with Putin or his decisions but he is planning to soon sign a new law that means pedophiles are forced to be chemically castrated.
(I don’t think it was his idea but he’ll still get the credit for signing it).

For me this is the most obvious solution and I do not understand why this isn’t common policy in every country.

Chemical castration is painless and can be reversed, so it’s not like we’re denying them their human rights or whatever.

I would argue that any sort of sexual crime should result in chemical castration but you would think peadophiles should have this done automatically.

So why is it not law in this country or most other countries that I know of?

There was a thread the other day about a peado and lots of posters agreed he could never be rehabilitated, but he would still eventually get out.
So surely forcing chemical castration would at least reduce his chances of reoffending.

Interested to know other peoples views.

It's disturbing how many many people on mumsnet are desperate to bring back the death penalty. People with that mentality need counselling, it's not normal to be so passionate about killing

Vile thread and yes you are being unreasonable. Statistics show vermin paedophiles will not stop no matter what they will just use more violent ways of doing things. That and the fact you are stupid enough to actually agree with anything Putin says makes this thread fairly disturbing. I actually think I might report it to be honest.

Forcing anyone to have any sort of medical treatment unless in an extreme life saving situation is a line that should not be crossed. Once you justify this treatment for that group its then easier to justify a different treatment for another group.

Unfortunately it's not that simple. The drugs are not proven effective against reoffending is the number one issue. The second reason is trickier because not everyone has sympathy, but there are men, typically young 20's who have been convicted of statutory rape and thus on the register yet they didn't know the female was under 16 - if you think this can't happen, think again, a friend of mine then 21 only escaped this by a kind judge (met a girl in a nightclub that was supposedly 18+ got drunk took her home etc turns out she was 14 and in care, her social worker had to pursue the offence as no discretion allowed he never asked her age).

The medication needs to be repeated - they don't take it or as others have posted, it turns them into another firm of violent criminal.

Logically, if the death penalty was any sort of deterrent there would be no murders would there? In the 19th century juries often refused to find the accused guilty because they disagreed with executing those found guilty of ;sheep stealing,carving their name on Westminster Bridge, impersonating a Chelsea pensioner, stealing goods worth more than 5s.There were so many offenses that called for execution as the penalty.The Bloody Code was devised as a deterrent; it didn't work. Juries found offenders not guilty rather than see them swing , and in time hanging was stopped as punishment for those crimes. I suspect that many would not find offenders guilty if they disagreed with the punishment, so the guilty would walk free.
I also suspect that some would be quite happy to bring it back. Because they feel it solves a problem when it doesn't.

I also wonder how many people who actually perform the death penalty act physically say its a great idea, its easy for us to sit behind keyboards and go 'string em up that'll fix em' and it all magically goes away

I don't think it goes far enough. I think nothing less than total castration for all sex offenders, plus a prison sentence.

And wrongful imprisonment?
You can't bring someone back to life when the courts realise they got it wrong a few years down the line.
