notnowbernard · 13/05/2010 16:38

LOL!

3billygoatsgruff · 13/05/2010 16:39

Ouch!! One of my friends asked me if i'd had any problems in pregnancy because i was an older mum also age 28! How rude!!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 13/05/2010 16:39

I was considered an "older Mum", aged 28, back in the day. That's young now for a first timer!!

brockleybelle · 13/05/2010 16:40

What?? 28 and an 'older mum'?!! LOL.

jonsies22 · 13/05/2010 16:48

I just had DD aged 28 and plan to have 1 more. Apparently medically spealing we are not "older mums" until we are 35. Hopefully will have my 2nd before I am officially older!

Lonnie · 13/05/2010 17:07

you are an older mum?? ok question

what did you say to her after you had picked yourself up from the floor and wiped the tears from laughter off your face?

SloanyPony · 13/05/2010 17:10

Over 35, first time pregnant and you are an "Elderly Prima Gravida". I love that it contains the word "elderly".

I was just a boring old "primp"

tillys · 13/05/2010 17:13

My MIL constantly says the same about me I was 35 when I had DD and this makes my blood boil . Never mind that I had gone though 10 years of fertility treatment etc.. You are NBU

Oenopod · 13/05/2010 17:15

My mother was described in her notes, when she had my sister at 39 (in 1980), as a "geriatric mother" !

BritFish · 13/05/2010 17:17

older mum??? i consider 25 young now im old and wizened and the world has moved on.
i was 30, perfect for me. i always thought you were classified as an older mum when you were 35? by the hospital i mean.

jonsies22 · 13/05/2010 17:18

Elderly is much worse than older isn't it! Having a baby at 35 you will only be 65 when DC is 30, I think that thinking ofit likethis puts itinto perspective.

FakePlasticTrees · 13/05/2010 17:20

I was 30 when had DS, my mum's convinced I'm an older mum. She was horrified at the suggestion i wouldn't be rushed into hospital at the first contraction as "surely they need to extra careful with older mothers?" (I hung up at that point)

annh · 13/05/2010 17:20

Apparently, the average age for first-time mothers in the UK is now 27.4 so far from being "older" you can tell your mum you are in fact, boringly average!

Firawla · 13/05/2010 17:21

Lol @ your mum thinking you're an older mother, I thought you were gonna be about 40 when I opened this thread. 28 is not old, so many people are 30+ these days having their first dc I would have thought 28 about average.

CheerfulYank · 13/05/2010 17:23

People annoyed me by calling me a "young mom" when I was preg at 24. Really? And no YANBU

dinkystinky · 13/05/2010 17:23

Hah! I got called an elderly primagravida in my hospital notes for DS1 - I was 29 when I had him! God only knows what they call the 40+ mum contingent.

Just ignore your crazy mum

bibbitybobbityhat · 13/05/2010 17:25

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Out of all of my friends, old and new, 29 is the youngest any of us had our first child. I'd say the average was about 33/34. I was 38!

carolondon · 13/05/2010 17:25

HA. I am 37 and first time preg so what does that make me? Geriatric i guess.

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/05/2010 17:33

A friend of mine has just had her first and she is a couple of months off fifty! Now that's old for a first timer in my book.
