But, seriously, what do you think?

The income all comes from dh and I am sahm. We have two primary school age children. I truly hate cleaning and I do 95% of the food shopping and cooking and 100% of the laundry and 95% of all the other things that makes a family tick over.

Or am I being unreasonable?

YABU to be posting incomes in your thread title - it doesn't sit well with some people on MN - you know it's a bit "in your face".

However - on the issue in question - you are NOT being unreasonable - once upon a time when DH was working, and I was a SAHM - earning quite a lot less than your DH (actually considerably less ) - we nearly got a cleaner.

DH knows that once he's working again, and we've shifted a few more debts then the first luxury that money will be spent on is a cleaner .

YABU to post the exact amount of your income. We could answer the question without that information.

unless you have a huge mansion that is too much for one person (with help from your dh at weekends, yes ???), then you shouldn't need a cleaner

Sorry - but don't really get it. We both work, have roughly around that kind of an income (won't be specific don't want to be too slated!!) but there are so many other things for us to spend our money on. Saying that, you are not being unreasonable, all about how YOU want to spend your money. Why not try a strike till you get what you want?!?

I don't care if it's £370 or £3700 it's vulgar to discuss the exact amount. Why would one feel the need to do so?

Always - I know the score with incomes and that is why I posted in disguise. I know it is frowned upon and coarse and I don't talk about it in rl (and also am fully aware that £3700 net is a truly piffling amount to some of my fellow esteemed mumsnetters!) but I just want to get the bald facts out in black and white, and not aibu by stealth either.

YANBU. Best money you'll ever spent IMO. Always reluctant to get a cleaner because I think we can do it between ourselves and we have had so many rows over the cleaning... DH and I had a bit of a crisis recently and made pledges to change things and getting a cleaner was one of them. So now we spent £25 a week on a cleaner who comes weekly and does 3 hours. She is so fab - she does all the things I just don't get around to doing (and mostly hate doing) like cleaning the toilets, vacuuming, organising the kitchen, mopping etc. Like you, I do most of the cooking and laundry. Cleaner has recently started doing the ironing as well. . I recently stopped working as I am due number 2 any day. Will keep cleaner and even increase her hours if I can't cope! DO IT!

YANBU to think you could afford it but you shoudn't have got yourself in a position where you don't have equal rights to money and have to do the majority of the child care and household jobs.

No YANBU - I would, in fact I'm going to soon as I'm fed up with me and DH working 50 hrs a week each and then having to spend my Saturday bloody cleaning!

I also think that in these troubled times for many people financially then it must be good to provide more employment to the jobs market!

i got a cleaner recently
£9 an hour although dh thinks is £8 ( arf)

its great. I had one before when pg and post natal with ds3 and that too saved me from depression I think.
target the worst areas ( i only have 2 hours and ask for hoovering kithcen bathroooms) and she works like a demon
