AIBU Books Game Part 5

1000 replies

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:46

Now we've made it to a fifth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to set all my sights on getting a rich husband?

CJCregg · 04/10/2009 21:16

Hi Moomin, and well done putting that list together, what a feat ...

Clue please?

My fabulous, opera-loving, dashing friend has left as suddenly as she arrived ... I'm devastated.

pollywobbledoodle · 04/10/2009 21:25

moomin, depends on whether you are after your very own or someone else's

(ta for the list btw.....weren't there a lot!)

CJ ...nimcp

were there any others still going?

llandb · 04/10/2009 21:31

Wow!
Very well done, indeed!

But I'm afraid it's still 'No Idea; More Clues, Please?' at this end.

And yes, Moomin, as the Old Woman Who Lived A Shoe, I suppose I was a bit U!

Now, AIBU to want to go to Public School?

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 21:39

CJ, I'm beginning to get the feeling I should know this but possibly I've just spent too much time mulling over clues!

And list compiling beats housework any day!

Llandb, it sounds a bit U but it depends on your circumstances. If you're desperate to escape from nasty Muggle relations then it isn't U at all (and DD would like to join you).

...I'm not particular. Any rich husband will do so long as he's mine in the end. But I don't want to live like ordinary people...

OP posts:
llandb · 04/10/2009 22:10

Ah, sneakily back here instead of in hammock...

Sadly, still with muggles - in fact, there's a cowardly bully who is keen on blanket-tossing!

(That sounds a bit ooh-er, but it wasn't supposed to )

steamedtreaclesponge · 04/10/2009 23:07

llandb, are you a Brown?

Wow, what a list, moomin! Makes us look really well-read

And yes, mine was Beloved. I must confess I was slightly hampered by the fact that I read it about five years ago and couldn't quite remember all the details...

Am a bit lost on who still has ones going now

AIBU to avenge my son's death?

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 23:47

Well, I'm quite sure the DD doesn't want to join you at Rugby so you're going on your own, Llandb!

It does make us look well read, doesn't it, Treacle, or possibly it says something about the state of our homes.

CJ's old one, which is truly baffling, is still running. You've just started one, I've just started one and I suspect you've just got Llandb's latest.

...I've planned it all out. With the money from the house I inherited I'm going to take an apartment in a really good area...

Night all!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 05/10/2009 10:19

OK - think I've got to grips with who's doing what. But still NIMC please!

...He was brutally murdered...

llandb · 05/10/2009 12:45

State of homes is more like it - and impossible to be well-read when everything interesting is at the bottom of the pile!

Ah, Treacle and Moomin, you're right, I'm Tom Brown - but never mind, surely Flashy will get himself expelled!

Nimcompoop here says, NIMCP?

steamedtreaclesponge · 05/10/2009 12:53

... I know the man who killed him though, and I'm going to go after him tonight...

NIMCP

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/10/2009 13:42

Afternoon all!

Was your son having an affair with his killer's wife, Treacle, or was he the victim of a hit and run driver?

...And I'll take a job with this swanky auction house. The pay is peanuts but I'll be mixing with the right people...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 05/10/2009 13:48

treacle, are you the godfather?

pollywobbledoodle · 05/10/2009 13:49

and moomin are you from a book or the tatler society pages?

steamedtreaclespongeofdeath · 05/10/2009 13:57

...No, no and no - he was killed by some big shot from out of town. But I'll get my revenge - that's what mothers are for...

Still stuck on yours, moomin and CJ... MCprettyP!

CJCregg · 05/10/2009 16:16

She left as suddenly as she arrived, my wonderful friend. I just got on with my rather prosaic existence for five years, until she suddenly reappeared, with an Italian lover and a baby ...

CJCregg · 05/10/2009 16:17

PS Moomin, I'm convinced I know yours, but need that last clue to click into place ...

Poledra · 05/10/2009 16:21

Jus' marking the thread, folks, don't mind me, move along now, nothing to see here.....

CJCregg · 05/10/2009 16:25

Now you've made me want to look, Pol ...

Good to see you again.

llandb · 05/10/2009 19:42

Hope you're being reasonable!

MoominMymbleandMy · 05/10/2009 20:20

Hi Pol, hope the DCs are lurgy-free.

I can't say how stumped I am on CJ's and Treacle's. NIMC doesn't even begin to describe it.

And don't worry, Polly, I am from a book!

...And the rent on the apartment is really high. It's lucky I've got all this money from the sale of my mother's house and Manhattan's full of millionaires. I'm bound to snag one eventually...

OP posts:
treaclespongeofdeath · 06/10/2009 10:29

Morning all! Completely lost here too...

...And the way he was killed was so gruesome. Apparently his whole arm was ripped off...

Poledra · 06/10/2009 11:08

Oh, be careful, Treacle, that Beowulf isn't someone to tangle with lightly!

treaclespongeofdeath · 06/10/2009 12:20

Alas, I fear you're right Poledra - he beat me good and proper!

AIBU to try and split up my father and his girlfriend?

MoominMymbleandMy · 06/10/2009 12:31

Sounds very U, Treacle. Might it end in a case of bonjour tristesse, possibly.

Poor old Grendel's mum!

...And in the meantime, spending the money on the right clothes, grooming and address, and working in the right kind of place for peanuts is an investment. Right?...

OP posts:
Poledra · 06/10/2009 13:02

You're sounding a bit chick-litty, Moomin....
