and I know I am being unreasonable

but I want to shout-' grow up and make a fucking effort!!'

and don't moan about your kids not having mates to play with when you never ask people back, never say hello in the street

thanks

needed to get that off my chest

Oh dear. I really can't see why you've started this if you know you are being unreasonable.

I think I'd rather be shy then a fool!

I hope this thread fulfills your aim.

Bellsa · 28/07/2009 19:05

me too! I hate it when they say-"you're lucky, you're just confident. No, we're all shy, some of us just make more effort...(sits back and waits to be slated)...

Hassled · 28/07/2009 19:05

YABVU. But yes, I know what you mean.

brimfull · 28/07/2009 19:06

I know

hit me with it

YABU.

more · 28/07/2009 19:07

Indeed only outgoing people should be allowed to moan or indeed talk. You go girl, make some new friends.

brimfull · 28/07/2009 19:07

I have enough friends

OP posts:
Tortington · 28/07/2009 19:09

not true - some people have social mojo - others dont

pasturesnew · 28/07/2009 19:09

Well, YABU in relation to shyness but I think sometimes Y might NBU if it is someone who is not making an effort - one of my friends has a hubby who is not shy at work or with his friends but does not carry out the social niceties with her friends, and I find this annoying. I don't care if he doesn't like me, I don't much like him TBH but still force myself to pass the time of day with him.

brimfull · 28/07/2009 19:09

what does mojo mean?

OP posts:
poshwellies · 28/07/2009 19:10

I'm guessing the OP hasn't had to take medication/therapy to help her social anxiety.

Hassled · 28/07/2009 19:11

The thing is, I think crippling shyness is probably like say, my fear of heights. And I know if it was a life or death thing then yes, I would haul myself up that ladder/abseil down that tower block, but otherwise I just wouldn't. Regardless of anything else.

So I guess shy people are so paralysed by their shyness that in the absence of a life or death scenario (and lets face it, your kids' social life isn't life or death) then they just won't fake confidence/say hello/whatever.

Dragonesque · 28/07/2009 19:12

yabu, and a bit unesessarily twatty....you sound like me when I'm PMTing, I hate the whole fecking world then!

Dragonesque · 28/07/2009 19:13

So who is gonna start the 'confident people get on my tits' thread?!

ShellingPeas · 28/07/2009 19:13

YABU

Do you put your points across so forthrightly in RL? Perhaps this is why less socially adept people are scared of you and won't say hello.

duchesse · 28/07/2009 19:14

I find that brash boorish people with no empathy for others get on my tits.

Glad to get that off my chest.

MillyR · 28/07/2009 19:15

pasturesnew...

I wonder if people who can manage at work but then don't in other social situations are like that because socialising at work follows clear rules which are easier for a shy person to deal with. There is more capacity for making a mistake or misunderstanding the unwritten rules in informal situations.

more · 28/07/2009 19:17

Is there such a thing as too many friends?

piscesmoon · 28/07/2009 19:17

I'm not surprised shy people avoid you!

twoisplenty · 28/07/2009 19:17

I actually was going to start a thread about confident people!!

Last week I went to a party, and sat next to an ultra-confident woman who didn't know how to shut up. I couldn't get a word in edge ways, so I did end up feeling "shy" but in fact, her voice is loud, mine is quiet, so I gave up.

But it annoyed me. Who has the right to steal the show, when we all have something interesting to say (most of the time!)but are not given a chance.

She bored me in the end.

southeastastra · 28/07/2009 19:18

i was watching america's top model the other day, one of the girls was stunned that a european girl was shy, she said you just don't have shyness in the US, people just get on with it.

wonder if it's true

LyraSilvertongue · 28/07/2009 19:18

YAB extremely U.
Being shy is enough of a burden without people like you saying 'they get on my tits'.
It's not something you can just snap out of.

more · 28/07/2009 19:19

I think I work with her twoisplenty!! I have started bringing in my ipod, to try and drown out her voice!!

Nancy66 · 28/07/2009 19:22

Are shy people born shy?
Can you be a confident child but go on to be a shy adult?

twoisplenty · 28/07/2009 19:22

At said party, everyone started to leave at around 11pm, but she (who carried on talking) finished talking at midnight!! She must have a lot to talk about...
