AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/07/2009 14:25

Ah, I may be even more mystified after that, llandb, but never mind. And it gives me the germ of a lovely, perplexing AIBU to think out .

...And it is very disappointing that the DS will have to repeat a year of school, especially as the fees are so high, but the DH did practically promise him this present...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 18/07/2009 19:32

No idea on the oak planting shepherd (acorns seem an odd thing to have a collection of,if you are in the Alps - or is that just me??),no idea on the bad school report...eagerly awaiting more clues!

...I feel that education should reflect the original meaning of the word...

MoominMymbleandMy · 18/07/2009 20:13

Ooh, Pogle, as in "to lead out"? I admire your enthusiasm and dedication but I think you ought to channel them into something other than fascism and encouraging your pupils into the arms of pervy Art masters.

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 18/07/2009 20:15

Oops, forgot the clue, sorry!

...I think the responsibility of caring for another creature will bring out the best in the DS, but my DH thinks it is a guarantee of ruining a valuable animal...

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 18/07/2009 20:20

I like your friend too, llandb , but I'm not sure he was much cop as a shepherd!

OP posts:
llandb · 19/07/2009 00:35

Moomin, I thought yours vaguely rang bells to do with time travel and a magical creature but I couldn't be sure where that was dreamt up from and now I'm most stumped. Again. And same goes for the rest of you - I'm stumped about all of yours!

As for my tree-planting friend,

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/07/2009 01:21

I didn't know it had a host of alternative titles either! I didn't have that trouble with the list but I wasn't looking for alternatives so only put down any I knew already. It's a lovely story, anyway.

No magic and no time travel here, I'm afraid.

...And the DS is so longing for a colt of his own...

Night all!

OP posts:
llandb · 19/07/2009 01:49

Oh, Moomin, are you in Wisconsin? If so, I can't remember anything more of your book or what it is, but you are very handy with dried grass arrangements and know better than to chase a wind-blown hat...

'Night from here, too!

llandb · 19/07/2009 01:52

Oh, er, I think I mean Wyoming, not Wisconsin. I always get those dubyas mixed up. Am always offending Swedish people and Swiss people by coming out with the wrong Sw-label, too

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/07/2009 11:55

Yes, well done, llandb! Wyoming, it is, and the DS now has a lovely filly, even if she is a bit wild!

AIBU to devote my leisure to the creation of the perfect filing system?

OP posts:
llandb · 19/07/2009 12:35

Trouble is, Moomin, I remember reading it but don't remember what it is so I need either enlightenment or more Googlable clues!

And also need clues for the filing system!

Pogle, what was yours, please pretty please?

And since we've had horseys, AIBU to give my DS a hippy name that means 'storm'?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/07/2009 12:47

Well, you already know that the DS's new filly is his pal, and he has given her a name which sounds exactly like a popular photo hosting site and is spelled almost the same.

I don't follow the connection between hippies and horsies but never mind, how about another clue to this latest woman who doesn't consult baby-naming threads?

...Naturally, I devote only my leisure time to the filing system. At work I am a model of precision and method, much to my employer's satisfaction...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 19/07/2009 13:43

Well done ,Moomin,(though I see you've moved on since getting my last!) - which was The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark, llandb, chosen to be easy to do but surprisingly difficult not to give the game away in the first clue...

Finally got your horse one,Moomin and the mad filer does sound familiar,

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/07/2009 14:07
OP posts:
llandb · 19/07/2009 16:21

Aha! My google search has been a bit lazy but some tantalising clues come up when I enter 'horse', 'book' and 'flicker'...

Well, my choice of name may seem a bit new-age, but my failure to consult the baby-naming thread is understandable, since I am a horse!

Puzzled as a jigsaw, but intrigued!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/07/2009 16:59

Ah, might you be a brumby, llandb? A silver one, if I'm on the right lines.

...He is a very meticulous gentleman, my employer, and particularly fastidious about the condition of his moustache, of which he is inordinately proud...

OP posts:
CJCregg · 19/07/2009 17:37

Moomin, I knew you were Miss Lemon from the first clue, dammit, but I've been out ... At last one I could have got easily, and it passes me by!

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/07/2009 17:48
OP posts:
Pogleswood · 19/07/2009 19:05

But you did get it,CJ,unlike me and llandb! (llandb and I??!)

llandb · 19/07/2009 20:49

'me and llandb' rhymes better than 'llanb and I'!

Yes, I'm a brumby, silver-ish, and my son Thowra is The Silver Brumby!

Cluuuuues? (I can beg, if necessary)

pollywobbledoodle · 19/07/2009 20:56

hmm, got as far as wondering if there was a literary horse named after photobox or klick....never mind, am fogged

aibu to want to stay in the palace allotment with my brothers and sisters?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/07/2009 21:15

Evening all!

My horse one was My Friend Flicka by Mary O'Hara, which I always associate with Elyne Mitchell's Silver Brumby series for no better reason than they were all Green Dragon paperbacks and had horses in!

Polly, I see a royal theme developing here but I'm no wiser, clues, please.

...Because I'm not convinced by that old tale about Romulus, Remus and the she-wolf and as we've got a baby handy it seems the perfect opportunity to see if it works...

OP posts:
llandb · 20/07/2009 10:22

I must have read those all at much the same time too - woe betide the library that doesn't have a horse section!

Stumped, stumped!

AIBU to try to get out of looking after my younger brother? Because I have an important clue to pursue...

CJCregg · 20/07/2009 12:41

llandb, faint rumblings ... is your name Harriet?

Stumped on the others, I'm afraid.

AIBU to choose a horse and carriage rather than a car?

MoominMymbleandMy · 20/07/2009 13:10

Hmm, pretty stumped here as well, except I'm wondering if you're a spy too, llandb.

More clues everyone please.

...Aargh, it was all going so well. We put my sister on the hillside and hid to watch for a vixen coming to suckle her (there aren't any wolves in England. And then this stupid courting couple found her and rescued her...
