AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

ps i keep wanting to make NIMCP into nincompoop

llandb · 02/10/2009 18:44

well this nincompoop has ni and would like mc, p!

MoominMymbleandMy · 02/10/2009 19:18

I had a feeling it was probably the wrong long lost sister, Treacle, and I am feeling a complete nincompoop over this one.

At least I can make wild stabs in the dark on CJ's .

...If only the boat hadn't drifted loose in the storm...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 02/10/2009 22:57

I am totally stuck on everyone's, as per usual... more clues, more clues!

...Now my mother's lost her job - where are we going to get food from? But our guest is getting suspiciously plump...

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/10/2009 01:59

Still NIMC but your one sounds quite sinister, Treacle.

...Well, I say boat, but strictly speaking it was a sampan. I was looking after the ducklings and the piglet at the time...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 03/10/2009 11:42

treacle, is it wartime and your guest sleeping with the enemy?

others, nincompoop...

steamedtreaclesponge · 03/10/2009 16:16

Feeling exceedingly nincompoopish this afternoon!

...And my mum's boyfriend doesn't seem to be welcome in the house any more either. I know something terrible happened to my mother when we were younger - the huge scars on her back are testiment to that...

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/10/2009 21:59

Aaargh, this isn't ringing any bells, Treacle, so I don't think I can have read it.

And, yes, NIMC!

...And it drifted all the way back to our poor, burnt-out village in Japanese-controlled territory. With me, the piglet and the ducklings on board...

OP posts:
pollywobbledoodle · 03/10/2009 22:16

moomin, i can't remember the title or author but is it one that the "where the wild things are" man drew the pictures for...if it is that one, it made me cry.....if it's not, i have no idea!

llandb · 03/10/2009 23:12

Too lazy to write the nicmp word in full, so - nimcp?

How long until the thread is filled up? I'm afraid to start one that may carry over into another!

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/10/2009 23:32

Oh, well done indeed, Polly! I hadn't registered it was Maurice Sendak who drew the illustrations before, but you are absolutely correct. And yes, it is heart-rending. I got quite croaky when I was reading aloud the ending to DD.

And to further jog your memory:

...I had to let the ducklings swim away but I've still got Glory of the Republic for company. And he's the best pig in the world...

Llandb, we got the others up to 1001 posts before starting a new one and I'm sure we've carried AIBUs over before...but leave me a post for the end-of-thread list, please!

Treacle, still NIMC ... and pooped!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 03/10/2009 23:35

I am utterly, utterly stumped. You could all be talking a different language, for all I know!

MoominMymbleandMy · 03/10/2009 23:40

CJ, don't disappear! We need clues for your cosmopolitan new girl!

OP posts:
CJCregg · 04/10/2009 00:10

Oh all right then ...

She just seems so exotic and brave and different. She doesn't have a mother, and she's travelled to all sorts of amazing places. Whereas I live at home in a rather dull existence with my two rather dull parents. I don't think my mother likes her at all!

SnowWoman · 04/10/2009 11:27

Sounds like Pippi CJ, or have I missed something back in the thread?

steamedtreaclesponge · 04/10/2009 11:56

...I don't blame my mother for what she did, she would have done anything rather than go back to slavery. But I'm not sure our visitor sees it that way...

What was yours, Moomin? It rings a bell - I think I've read about it, but I don't think I've actually read it myself.

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 13:30

Umm, Beloved, Treacle? I've never been able to bring myself to read that one but the plot sounds similar.

CJ, is this going to end in tears, murder and a prison sentence?

Nice to see you, Snow, mine was The House of Sixty Fathers by Meindert de Jongh.

OP posts:
CJCregg · 04/10/2009 19:32

I don't think so, Moomin ... but I am learning a real appreciation of the Magic Flute (oh, and I'm not Pippi either!)

llandb · 04/10/2009 20:12

Erm.. NIMCP!

And here's one that genre-breaks, but which I hope will be solved before the thread fills :

AIBU to live in a shoe?

MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:33

Well, cheating by Google got me nowhere there!

Are you an Angela Brazil heroine, CJ?

OP posts:
MoominMymbleandMy · 04/10/2009 20:39

I think your choice of habitat is more eccentric than U, Llandb but beating and starving your offspring is most definitely U.

And this thread is getting very slow to get into so I think it's time for the end-of-thread list.
