AIBU Books Game Part 4

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/07/2009 19:54

Well, we made it to a fourth thread!

As before, we frame an AIBU from the point of view of a character in a book and everyone tries to guess the book and/or the character.

Everyone welcome to play/time-waste as much or as little as they please.

New thread, new AIBU...

AIBU to refuse to read aloud?

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 22/07/2009 22:21

Holiday was great fun, thanks

No, I'm not at Oxford, somewhere very different, but I've made some wonderful friends....

pollywobbledoodle · 22/07/2009 22:33

ah moomin, i am an inherently miserable sod really!

so, snowoman are you going oop north?

MoominMymbleandMy · 22/07/2009 23:14

Never, Polly, not as the owner of sparkly acrobatic gear!

Snow, I've no idea on your one so another clue, please?

...Some of the girls smile and wave at young men from their windows! And some of them even dangle baskets out of their windows for fruit and flowers and notes! So I think the SSUC is desperately needed...

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 23/07/2009 10:10

Hmmmmm, sounds familiar - are you Katy Moomin?

Not up North, I'm afraid. I know my family is strange, but my friends' families are completely dysfunctional, I mean, sending assassins?!?!

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/07/2009 12:24

Afternoon all!

Spot on, Snow, I am Katy Carr, my sister is Clover, and we are at Hillsover, steadfastly not flirting.

And I think one of your new University friends is a griffin!

AIBU to think my guest is concealing a secret?

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 23/07/2009 13:49

Hello all,and welcome back,Snow! So what is yours then,as Moomin has obviously got it - sounds just my sort of book!

AWBU to have really weird names..?

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/07/2009 14:31

Hi Pogle, I'm sure you'd love Snow's if it is the one I'm thinking of, and the first one too.

Would it be more a case of your parents BU, perhaps? Did they pick your names off a colour chart?

...He's a refugee and I don't know him very well yet. He has beautiful manners but is rather reserved...

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 23/07/2009 17:43

Hi Moomin!

bother, I always come on here at the wrong time...

hmm. have no idea what yours is yet.

AIBU to want to stay in London? My husband is dying to move to the country but I don't want to move...

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/07/2009 18:04

Oh good, you're back, Treacle .

Would the move to the country interfere with your dishonorable intentions?

...And he's suddenly developed an enormous appetite. He ate like a sparrow when he came but now he's always asking for extra food to take out with him...

OP posts:
llandb · 23/07/2009 19:54

Hello! Sorry, yes, Mr Chatterbox at your service (would doff hat but can't see hand)

Pogleswood · 23/07/2009 22:37

Evening all!
Back to the same old request - more clues please!

...we don't have parents,as such - and our names are much weirder than Cadmium and Indigo...

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/07/2009 22:51

Hmmm, did you choose the names from the labels on old tins of food, Pogle?

...And he seems to spend all day in the bamboo thicket. I wonder what he does in there...

OP posts:
Pogleswood · 23/07/2009 23:02

Nope, not tins of food... well,as we haven't evolved to the level of speech yet at least none of us have to pronounce them...

Is your refugee the only person living with you,Moomin?

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/07/2009 23:11

He's the only other person in the house at the moment but a young relative often comes in the holidays.

Another clue please, Pogle. This sounds very mystifying.

OP posts:
MaKettle · 23/07/2009 23:26

Can anyone join in? Even if I can't guess any at the moment?

AIBU to think that it would be so much easier to wash up with a little sponge on a stick rather than that bundle of twigs?

Pogleswood · 23/07/2009 23:34

Yes,do join in MaKettle - the more the merrier!

Moomin - You'd expect him to be visiting a Panda in the bamboo, but has he perhaps met a gorilla?

...we are a varied bunch of creatures, and 90%of us are hideous(even our own mothers would have trouble loving us ...if we had mothers, that is...)

MoominMymbleandMy · 23/07/2009 23:46

Hi MaKettle, more book loonies are always welcome .

It sounds eminently reasonable to me but you might have trouble persuading Adam Lambsbreath to cletter the dishes with anything but thorn twigs.

Pogle, bang on the nose yet again! There was a gorilla in the bamboo thicket!

But I have to confess I am utterly clueless about your one.

AIBU to allow this charming man to babysit my grandchildren?

OP posts:
MaKettle · 23/07/2009 23:52

Rats! Will have to try harder next time - and still have no ideas for the others!

Pogleswood · 23/07/2009 23:54

Mine was brought on by having to read it to DS at bedtime - very difficult when you are tired as it is impossible to read accurately unless you concentrate very hard,IMO.

However...,no,can't think of any more clues at the moment

Will try again tomorrow - night all!

Oh yes,MaKettle - Adam and his 'liddle mop'!

Pogleswood · 23/07/2009 23:56

MaKettle,Moomin has a mind like a steel trap,no AIBU is safe!

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/07/2009 00:00

Flatterer, it feels more like the washing-up sponge at the moment!

Night all!

OP posts:
steamedtreaclesponge · 24/07/2009 11:41

Moomin, yes it would rather! Not to mention the lack of baths...

I am completely mystified as to everyone else's at the moment...

MoominMymbleandMy · 24/07/2009 12:19

Afternoon all!

Well, we've established you're a bit of a hussy, Treacle, but I'm still not sure which one! Have you just survived the plague?

...He's such a delightful man. The twins adore him and it would be just while I went on shore for a short break...

OP posts:
SnowWoman · 24/07/2009 14:52

Moomin I might have known you'd read that one as well! Pogle, it's another DWJ, Year of the Griffin, and really good fun.

I'll need to go and think now - DCs spent yesterday on the pc, and I spent it reading the first 3 Twilight books , so need to get my head round something else now.

steamedtreaclesponge · 24/07/2009 17:01

Plague? I'm far too sophisticated for such a disfiguring disease. No, the main problem of my life at the moment is trying to find a nanny...

What was the one about the gorilla? Don't think I've read it, whatever it is.
