After 60 years on this planet I've discovered something monumental about toast!

If you leave it cool for 30 seconds and then put the butter on it tastes better cos the butter doesn't melt and you can actually taste the butter!
It's probably healthier as well cos you need less butter.
Mind blown!

YABU - Toast with melted butter is yummy

YANBU - OMG : Get OP a knighthood for services to toast

I prefer cold toast as I don’t like the butter melted (unless it is banana toast or beans on toast).

cuckoolodger · Yesterday 17:49

I “tent” my toast by resting the top edges together like an upside down V to cool down quicker so you don’t get toast sweat and it stays crisp. Perfection with butter going on cold.

SnapAndTap · Yesterday 18:17

Me: hot toast, melted butter.
My Mum - cold, ideally burnt, toast, slabs of butter.
DS1 - dopey in the mornings, so if he is slow, and his butter isnt melted enough, he microwaves it. Im not sure where he came from, but that's heathen behaviour!

I used to toast a weeks supply, spread with cream cheese, then wrap them in foil, one for each day, refrigerate and take one pack each day. That was lunch.

My colleagues learned not to comment.

Good lord. That’s…. rather unusual (terrifying).

What is banana toast?

My gran used to put slices of butter on her toast. A little bit melted but most remained solid. Didn't seem to harm her, she lived to 89.

I can only eat my toast stone cold. And preferably flabby, so you can bend it in half without it snapping.

Yes, none of your standing it up to avoid condensation. Let it go cold on a cold plate then slice the butter on.

WhatNextImScared · Yesterday 21:49

Yes! Even better if you leave it for 5 mins so it has a slight bend to it. I call that hotel toast. The dream.

Apparently Nigella butters the hot toast, waits for it to melt and cool, and then butters it again.

I was about to say this..having watched her do this on a series with my mouth dropping…the sheer amount of butter was slightly horrifying! 😱🤯

Basildon4Eva · Yesterday 21:55

I can't believe how many weirdos like cold toast!

Hot buttered toast for me, and the whole point is to put a tonne of butter on it to melt in! I try to eat it ASAP from the toaster.

I similarly adore warm bread fresh from the breadmaker with melted butter soaking in.

Delia has a cheese toasty recipe which uses a scary amount of butter and multiple types of cheese, but is the best toastie I've ever eaten by far.

I have 2 types of toast I make dependent on my mood… hot melty butter toast buttered copiously straight from toaster OR cold toast with thick cold butter on, I wait for it to go completely cold so like a good minute before buttering and I stand it up to cool so it doesn’t get soggy from condensation… maybe I think about my toast too much 😂

No that is absolutely the correct amount of toast thought 😂

Raced here to say this! I love her for that ‘recipe’. It’s what I usually do - you get the best of both worlds! Soft seeped-in buttery-ness and more definite salted cool butter layer… perfect

Way prefer the melty method! But I like cold toast with marmalade 😋

I however recently learned that if you freeze bread before toasting it, it change its structure and makes it less likely to give you a glucose spike. Something about creating resistant starch.

Does depend on the bread, but the impact can be something like a 40% reduction.

Edited

Same with pasta, if you cook it and cool it then reheat it apparently the spike is lower as well

FairViewRosie25 · Yesterday 22:37

Try eating it with two twats (bassetts) waiting for theirs

Cherrycoko · Yesterday 22:39

YABVVU. Toast should be absolutely saturated with butter.

RaininSummer · Yesterday 22:45

I've always preferred my toast cold as it's nice and crispy rather than soggy and greasy. The family think I'm weird but I don't have beans on toast either but beans beside toast.

daffodilandtulip · Yesterday 22:50

Crappy spread must be melted into hot toast; but proper butter I am totally with you!

TigerJoy · Yesterday 23:05

Delphiniumandlupins · Yesterday 12:26

I was about to suggest this.

How does this work?

You have cold, soggy, heavily buttered toast. That you....add butter to? How, when there is already butter swimming about on the top of the toast (I butter heavily)?

009395elj · Yesterday 23:11

Toast straight out of toaster with butter +++ melted butter on hot toast is the best !
After a 12 hour nightshift it has to be cheap thick white toast with butter and jam .
I literally get ready for bed beforehand so I can be in bed with my toast ,still warm dripping with butter and jam…am asleep 10 mins later and my teeth are not brushed beforehand!!

HeyThereDelila · Yesterday 23:38

My DF let’s toast go completely cold, then butters it. He says it’s from when he was little and as the youngest would always get toast last, so it’d be cold 😞

Thats because she knows what she's doing.

Ah, but the best toast is crunchy and hot. Turn the toaster down so it half toasts the bread. Toast it once, leave it so the steam goes, then toast it the rest of the way.

BeresfordDale · Today 00:03

I have always much preferred cold toast to hot, so I'm with you on this one.

davidraker · Today 00:05

Omg! I thought this was only my guilty pleasure. I like fridge cold jam or marmalade spread on the cold butter on the cold toast with a steaming cup of tea.
