After 60 years on this planet I've discovered something monumental about toast!

If you leave it cool for 30 seconds and then put the butter on it tastes better cos the butter doesn't melt and you can actually taste the butter!
It's probably healthier as well cos you need less butter.
Mind blown!

YABU - Toast with melted butter is yummy

YANBU - OMG : Get OP a knighthood for services to toast

I think the double butter method is top tier. I was a bit of both - cold salty butter you can get your teeth into and lovely melty butter underneath. My family always judge me for over buttering, but they don’t understand how to do it correctly.

I think my arteries also judge me quite a bit.

I have 2 types of toast I make dependent on my mood… hot melty butter toast buttered copiously straight from toaster OR cold toast with thick cold butter on, I wait for it to go completely cold so like a good minute before buttering and I stand it up to cool so it doesn’t get soggy from condensation… maybe I think about my toast too much 😂

I completely agree. There are 2 different types of toast.

The hot, melty kind is for cold mornings when you want warming through. It's kids toast. Comforting toast.
The colder toast, with thick "sitting on top" butter is for a more sophisticated clientele. For me it's reminiscent of holiday buffet breakfasts, where the toast is always luke-warm, and the butter is arctic.

KnickerlessParsons · Yesterday 12:25

I like my toast almost cold for that very reason. I like the butter to sit on top and not melt in.

Apparently Nigella butters the hot toast, waits for it to melt and cool, and then butters it again.

I was about to suggest this.

BaobhanSith · Yesterday 12:27

Another vote for two types of toast.

Morning toast can be either, toast soldiers to dip in eggs must be the cold type but evening toast is always the hot melted type.

My colleague puts her buttered toast in foil and brings it to work … eats it about 2 hours later 🤮

JeffLebowski · Yesterday 12:27

Wholemeal toast that's allowed to cool and then spread with both butter and crunchy peanut butter is a thing of beauty.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · Yesterday 12:28

Always preferred my toast cold

Your colleague is a monster

I’m very wary of her …

On the back of the recent white bread is horrendous post I feel I must add my favourite, hot white sliced toast, butter and lots of marmite. Heavenly!

Oh.my.god !!

MrMurphysComeuppance · Yesterday 12:31

Nigella advocates for double buttered toast. The melty sort then an extra layer of non-melty on top. I think we should all get on board with that.

FckThisShit · Yesterday 12:34

Just butter on toast needs to be melted. Butter with jam needs to be put on cold toast.

Good God no. What are you, a savage?

This was my reaction too 😱😂. I don’t think I know anyone who eats cold toast. Toast is a hot food and I will not be convinced otherwise!

redskyAtNigh · Yesterday 12:37

I cannot see the point of cold toast. Why not just have bread?

But DH likes his toast buttered the way you describe. In case you have not discovered this yet, it must also be cooled whilst standing up (DH leans his against the toaster) in case of sogginess.

EmailsaysOOO · Yesterday 12:39

Yes it's better as you say, if you wait for a wee while.

Btw I once ate 13 pieces of toast in quick succession so what I don't know about toast isn't worth knowing 😀

Lifeomars · Yesterday 12:41

I love toast, there is something so consoling about a couple of slices of hot buttered toast and a big mug of steaming tea.

Jewelanemone · Yesterday 12:42

Cold toast, and slices of butter that are thick enough to leave teeth marks.

It's the only way.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · Yesterday 12:43

Noooooo, got to be buttered immediately so the butter sinks in.

ChocolateCinderToffee · Yesterday 12:43

I like toast any old how. It must, however, be well done.

oddsbobshammerandtongs · Yesterday 12:44

I’ve always waited until it was cold to butter. I still like it high with butter though

BillieWiper · Yesterday 12:44

I used to put the toast in the freezer so I could get it cooled quickly to have that unmelted butter sensation. I hate wet, bendy toast. And I eat it slowly so it gets cold anyway. I'd rather it was coldish when the butter goes on!
It feels like you can get away with using less and have more flavour as well?

FoldItIn · Yesterday 12:44

I leave my toast to go cold 😳 then spread on a nice 'proper' butter. Occasionally I like tea and melty toast but I prefer it cold and rubbery almost.
I am a heathen.

BMW58 · Yesterday 12:45

I like both types equally depending on my whimsy at the time
