After 60 years on this planet I've discovered something monumental about toast!

If you leave it cool for 30 seconds and then put the butter on it tastes better cos the butter doesn't melt and you can actually taste the butter!
It's probably healthier as well cos you need less butter.
Mind blown!

Nah. You get a toastie cut thick sliced bread (white), get the crust end, force it in your toaster, whip it out quickety quick when it's done and put about half a pound of butter on it so it goes all melty and delicious.

Anything else is just wrong!

Tiddlywinks63 · Yesterday 13:18

I hate soggy toast; it has to cool before butter is added.

Sheeppig · Yesterday 13:21

I love cold toast thickly buttered. I always used to take it for long car journeys when the kids were little. We called it "travel toast" (my now adult sons still do).

I have 2 types of toast I make dependent on my mood… hot melty butter toast buttered copiously straight from toaster OR cold toast with thick cold butter on, I wait for it to go completely cold so like a good minute before buttering and I stand it up to cool so it doesn’t get soggy from condensation… maybe I think about my toast too much 😂

This is me!

Apparently Nigella butters the hot toast, waits for it to melt and cool, and then butters it again.

Of course she does 😄

Ellenanora7 · Yesterday 13:31

I've just eaten two slices of Brennan's batch bread toasted, when it's toasted I leave it in the toaster to go cold and smother it with proper butter, I also toast it till it's very brown, absolutely delicious 😋

But crumpets... now that's a different process altogether, they have to be whipped out of the toaster as soon as they're done and then plonk a huge knob of butter and watch it melt all the way through and stuff it into you really quick 😁

Tell me you have never been on a cruise ship without saying it😂 You never get hot toast on a cruise ship unless you specifically ask for thick toast.

The nice thing is at 60 you can still have new experiences.

Personally I like both hot and cold toast, it depends on the weather and my mood. After swimming hot buttered toast is my go too.

Eristealviper · Yesterday 13:42

…depends, on what else is going on top, or not obvs!
If I’m having marmite the toast has to be cold -don’t like toast with only marmite on like in areas that have missed buttering -not that that happens much!
If it’s (crunchy)honey or homemade blackcurrant jam, or nothing at all, slightly melty 👍

Same with crumpets, leave to cool then you're saved from melted butter running down your chin.

This is me!

Me too, I've never had a toast rack which would be ideal for this purpose, but I'm adept at leaning it against the kettle to cool down.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · Yesterday 13:53

I came to the comments expecting everyone to think OP is psychotic for wanting a big smear of grease on a cold, hard slab of toast. What an eye-opener this has been 😲

UserName00747 · Yesterday 13:58

Have I convinced any of you hot melted buttery toast lovers to try the dark side of slightly cooler, unmelted butter and you've been converted?

Actually it's not the dark side, it's the lighter side cos the butter is still visible.

No! I like toast barely toasted and the butter has to be melted and plentiful!

CoastalCalm · Yesterday 13:59

Cold toast with butter honey and maldon salt - perfection

SidekickSylvia · Yesterday 14:01

I make a wigwam of toast to cool before buttering (stand it up, leaning the slices against each other at the top). I only do this if it's lightly toasted. Dark well done toast has to be hot with melted butter. All butter has to be the traditional salted type, no spreads or whatever.

Hapagirl48 · Yesterday 14:01

I'm the same with pancakes, waffles, jacket potatoes too. I wait for a bit for them to cool down so I have chunks of butter (unfortunately Benecol now) on them and it's not all melted.

OriginalSkang · Yesterday 14:02

I want squashy hot toast with melted butter though, so I will stick to my method

FreddysFingers · Yesterday 14:04

I've been doing this for years 😆. But I wait a bit longer than 30sec so the butter just sits on the top. Delicious with Marmite 🤤❤️

Knitterlybliss · Yesterday 14:20

tapdancingmum · Yesterday 13:18

Crumpets have to be cooked really well and served hot so the butter leaves a puddle on the plate.
Toast is best left to cool as I can't bear hot toast with melted butter that has gone cold by the time I get back to bed to eat it.

Having taken one for the team, I now agree. In the interests of pushing research a bit further, I also had a warm one with cream cheese and cranberry sauce. That was very acceptable too.

My colleague puts her buttered toast in foil and brings it to work … eats it about 2 hours later 🤮

Retired now but that's exactly what I used to do.
Drop kids at nursery then cold toast and coffee at my desk.

I know the phrase "hot buttered toast" but I didn't realise so many people actually liked it that way.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · Yesterday 14:29

If you lay the toast at an angle against the side of the plate to cool, you don’t get any condensation underneath so you keep it crispy. I love hotel toast when they bring it in the toast rack and it has cooled right down before you butter and jam it.

Girlintheframe · Yesterday 14:48

My favourite toast of all time used to be warburton orange packet toasted lightly then left to go stone cold. Thick spreading of lurpack butter (so thick it leaves teeth marks) then a tiny bit of jam. Delicious!

Idontjetwashthefucker · Yesterday 14:51

Don't like too much butter so I leave it to cool and then only a very, very thin spread. Do not like hot buttered toast one bit

Growlybear83 · Yesterday 14:57

I’ve always left my toast to go cold before buttering it - I hate melted butter seeping into it.

Oh god I think we have the same colleague, there can’t be more than one (adorable!) weirdo like this surely?!
