After 60 years on this planet I've discovered something monumental about toast!

If you leave it cool for 30 seconds and then put the butter on it tastes better cos the butter doesn't melt and you can actually taste the butter!
It's probably healthier as well cos you need less butter.
Mind blown!

YABU - Toast with melted butter is yummy

YANBU - OMG : Get OP a knighthood for services to toast

All my toast is eaten cold - it is so much better! And actually put less butter on it because it doesn't melt in instantly.

Cold, chewy toast is even nicer!

Retired now but that's exactly what I used to do.
Drop kids at nursery then cold toast and coffee at my desk.

I know the phrase "hot buttered toast" but I didn't realise so many people actually liked it that way.

I used to toast a weeks supply, spread with cream cheese, then wrap them in foil, one for each day, refrigerate and take one pack each day. That was lunch.

My colleagues learned not to comment.

I have 2 types of toast I make dependent on my mood… hot melty butter toast buttered copiously straight from toaster OR cold toast with thick cold butter on, I wait for it to go completely cold so like a good minute before buttering and I stand it up to cool so it doesn’t get soggy from condensation… maybe I think about my toast too much 😂

Are you me 😂😂

Crumpets have to be cooked really well and served hot so the butter leaves a puddle on the plate.
Toast is best left to cool as I can't bear hot toast with melted butter that has gone cold by the time I get back to bed to eat it.

And buttery sheets are best not even thought about.

Ha! My mum used to do this for our packed lunches as we all preferred cold toast :-) People are missing out eh?

BorgQueen · Yesterday 15:41

Yes, that’s why hotel toast is always nicer.
I can’t wait at home.
DH uses a cheese cleaver to cut thin slices of butter and overlays them on his toast, weirdo.

Apparently Nigella butters the hot toast, waits for it to melt and cool, and then butters it again.

Perfect!

Well that's exactly what I was going to say.

Ooh I’m going to try this.

I love toast hot and with lashing of melted butter. I also like toast cold with lashings of butter.

I like toast hot with peanut butter

I like toast cold and hot with butter and marmalade.

YABU not to have known this

Oh god I think we have the same colleague, there can’t be more than one (adorable!) weirdo like this surely?!

Quite normal when I was at school. You took a couple of pieces for break time. I still do it now. I am adorable so may well be your colleague 😂

WestwardHo1 · Yesterday 16:56

WonderingWanda · Yesterday 12:15

Yuck, I need full melt and as quick as possible a smear of marmite before it all soaks in.

This literally cures hangovers. And if it doesn't, it makes you feel a bit less shit.

Dontcallmescarface · Yesterday 17:02

I've always eaten cold toast. The thought of melted butter just gives me the shivers.

MadamDicey · Yesterday 17:05

Cold toast ,with a slab of butter and a sprinkling of salt 😋

Mooselove · Yesterday 17:06

I hate hate hate cold toast. Have to butter it quickly from the toaster to eat it as hot as possible.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · Yesterday 17:10

I can only eat my toast stone cold. And preferably flabby, so you can bend it in half without it snapping.

Was just going to say this !
My kind of gal .

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · Yesterday 17:12

I hate butter so being able to taste it would make me 🤮

StormGazing · Yesterday 17:21

This sounds genius!! I’ll try when I have toast again … currently avoiding bread 😭

Jom222 · Yesterday 17:22

JustMarriedBecca · Yesterday 11:43

I actually put the toast back under the grill so the butter is melted. Cold toast and solid butter NO THANKS

I often butter my toast then quickly set it back on top of the toaster, the residual heat helps melt any little bits of butter left.

Sophue · Yesterday 17:23

Cooler toast, slabs of butter and Oxford marmalade!

sherbetlemonade · Yesterday 17:32

I've always let toast cool down a bit before buttering it. Never liked soggy toast with melted butter.

Ginmonkeyagain · Yesterday 17:32

Oh we loved "bendy toast" as children. Best eaten at old fashioned hotel breakfast where they brought you a round of toast cut in to triangles and stacked in a little stainless steel rack
