I had a full blown hissy fit, is there any way back?

Been dating someone for around a year. He wants to live together but I’m very protective of my space, very houseproud and wasn’t sure if I could handle it so we started spending the odd weekend night at each others houses to trial things.

I found his house utterly depressing. There is no colour, none of the furniture match and it’s all old and plain. And by old I don’t mean tastefully old but decades old Argos style furniture all scuffed etc. It smells funny and nothing seems to have its place. I started making excuses not to go and in the end told him why so he said it’s because he never had visitors so didn’t see the point.

When he stayed at my house I had to regularly remind him to take his shoes off in the hallway, to put the coffee jar back it it’s place after moving it, to bin packets rather than just leaving them around etc

Hes getting desperate to move in so I suggested a trial week where he stayed at mine for a week. It’s lasted 3 days 😱

He arrived on Friday night, by Saturday I’d lost count of how many times I’d told him about the coffee jar. Numerous times I told him to take his shoes off, he left wet towel on the bathroom floor on Saturday night and I snapped, we had a falling out where he accused me of being “OCD” about stuff. I I explained that this is my house and I won’t apologise for the way I keep it clean and tidy. We moved on.

Last night I went into the bathroom to see he’d left the wet towel on the floor, a pile of clothes AND his shoes meaning he had walked upstairs in his shoes. I just lost it, opened the bathroom window and chucked all his stuff out of it. When I went downstairs I informed him that everything he left in the bathroom is now in the garden. He went ape shit saying I was a psyco and I totally lost it and screamed at him to get the fuck out of my house and take all his shit with him. When he left I saw that he’d deliberately moved the coffee jar to the other side of the kitchen.

Since then he’s messaged me multiple times apologising saying he just needs to get used to how I work but I’m thinking this is just not going to work is it? How can you come back from that?

Just no. He’s a manchild and he’s shown you who he is. Put him in the bin.

PatNoodle · Today 09:56

Don't move in together. It won't get any better

Tickets25 · Today 09:57

Doesn't sound like it's going to work op, protect your peace!
Also why is he so desperate to move in? Is there something else going on with him (financial?)

Chunkybabythighs · Today 09:58

He wants cheap lodging with a built in cleaner and fanny. Sack him off.

Makebelieveanotherlife · Today 09:59

Yanbu, you sound independent and someone who knows exactly what she likes. I’m like that too. What’s in it for you to bend and accept things if you don’t like it?
He’s desperate to move in because he can see a good thing and it will be in HIS favour.

I don’t even host people with unruly and naughty kids in my home 😅 so there is no way I’m letting an untidy manchild move in. I am also house proud.

You have your boundaries and they are completely fine, stick to it.

Onemanpedrodiablo · Today 09:59

God no! Just end it now. The pressure to be the live in cleaner will never stop.

Vaxtable · Today 09:59

You don’t. And why move in after only one year. What’s his rush?

if you want to see him again fine but you make it clear you are not moving in together and he needs to get his place in order as he won’t be staying at yours again as he can’t follow simple rules about removing shoes. So that means you need to stay as his and won’t be until it’s to your standard

personally I would be dumping

PissedOffNeighbour22 · Today 09:59

Why is he desperate to move in? To be looked after by any chance?

BlueandtheGodofMischief · Today 10:00

Don't move in with him. It'll be a complete disaster. If he's like this when only staying a week he'll be worse when living together.

kxeil · Today 10:01

Never live with him. He has no respect for you or your home.

Walkerzoo · Today 10:01

Why is he so desperate to move in? Is he renting? What is his own housing situation?

There is a story and it isn't about cleanliness.

But absolutely no way would I let him move in

Spaniels4Eva · Today 10:01

What's the saying about when someone shows you who they really are.....

He's got no respect for your home. It's never going to end well.

Walk away now.

pinkyredrose · Today 10:01

Fuck that shit! No adult woman wants to live with a manchild!

Moreholidaysthanjudithchalmers · Today 10:02

You are totally incompatible. Just end it now.

Polyestered · Today 10:02

😂 you sound a bit OTT but I am here for it. Do not let that man move in with you - he will steal your peace. Kind of hilarious to throw his stuff out the window rather than facilitate him. Good for you!

Sparrowsandbudgies · Today 10:02

Why is he so desperate to move in? That alone rings alarm bells for me.

BunkBedsArePeopleShelves · Today 10:02

Get rid. He doesn't respect you or your home, he couldnt even be bothered to pretend to for a week's trial.

This is him on his BEST behaviour? Can you imagine how much worse he'd be if you let him move in?

Mum2Fergus · Today 10:03

Not only would I not live together…I’d separate - you clearly both have different standards of what is and isn’t acceptable.

Ellie1015 · Today 10:03

Nope, that is him on his best behaviour it will never work save yourself the hassle.

If you intend to have a family I would end it you are not compatible for living together. If you don't want children together carrying on as you are may be an option if he is willing to accept you won't ever live together.

JanuaryLove · Today 10:03

I do admit to loving the final move of the coffee tho 🤣🤣🤣

Gallowayan · Today 10:04

You are not compatable at all. What happened is for the best.

BigBadPotato · Today 10:05

Was him being ‘desperate to move in’ not enough of a clue that what he really wants is a maid? Of course, I don’t doubt there may also be feelings there, but it’s a bit convenient, imo.

Honestly that enraged me more than the stuff on the bathroom floor 😂 just so bloody petty and childish

Growlybear83 · Today 10:06

Sorry but I think you’ve over reacted massively and you sound really obsessive. I think it’s way over the top to be making such an issue out of a coffee jar being misplaced or leaving a towel on the bathroom floor. I think your boyfriend has had a lucky escape.

Gymnopedie · Today 10:06

Since then he’s messaged me multiple times apologising saying he just needs to get used to how I work

That would carry a lot more weight if he seemed to be at least trying. He's not going to, rather he expects you to be the one to change and let him keep being a slovern.

If his house is so depressing have you thought that maybe he wants to move in together so that you can make his life nicer for him?

Anyway you're not compatible, in the bin with him. And I'd be wondering what it is about him that he never has visitors.
