DH away and not answering phone

Wanttohelpbuthow · 01/10/2026 12:55

DH has been away for work on and off for the last few weeks, really long hours + jet lag.

He came home for one night on Tuesday night (we live near a major airport) which was essentially a layover almost at our house before driving the next morning 5 hours, again for work where he is the for the next 10 days.

He was obviously incredibly tired and was being unreasonable and out of character yesterday morning before he left which resulted in an argument. He then left without saying goodbye and I haven’t heard from him since, he’s never ignored me before but he went the entire day ignoring any calls or messages. I left it from mid afternoon but now still haven’t heard from him, the only reason I know he’s got there safely is because I have him on find friends.

I can also see he is still at the hotel … it’s 1pm and he should be working today as far as I know. I’m now getting really worried. Is there anything I can do apart from wait? Am I being overly anxious?

Id say your overreacting- you had an argument, he refused to say goodbye and now he's being abusive and giving you the silent treatment 🤷‍♀️

HollyhockDays · 01/10/2026 17:55

Has he been crossing a lot of time zones? You can get psychosis due to this. If you say he was making no sense and couldn’t remember the conversation I’d be slightly concerned about that.

I would call the hotel and ask to be put through to his room.

fumingrightnow1 · 01/10/2026 18:06

Did you call the hotel?

Invisablepanic · 01/10/2026 18:10

Pedant61 · 01/10/2026 16:48

Absolutely do NOT call the hotel! Of course he's fine, why wouldn't he be? He may be very busy (because he is working, after all), jetlagged or even a tiny bit grumpy, because you had an argument.
But he's a competent adult who certainly doesn't need to have his wife checking up on him. Leave him be, and he'll get in touch in his own good time.

I don't think it's a big deal to call the hotel - I probably wouldn't call his work yet but a hotel wouldn't register anything out of the ordinary about putting a call through.

Granville82 · 01/10/2026 18:31

If he was delirious when you last saw him then yes you should check in on him

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 01/10/2026 18:57

Did he wake up delirious and still leave to drive? Surely, work is not that important? It can't impact your lives this much, it's just not worth it.

GreenFootstool · 01/10/2026 13:07

Why not? Is it on LinkedIn as a business, a Google business page, a Facebook page - any online presence at all? Payslips you have for his employer?

Government department perhaps (MI5)? Use your noggjn.

MI5 have very detailed emergency protocols for their staff. They are still a civil service department.

And what do you mean you can't look up a company?

This

DozyCrow · 01/10/2026 19:51

it was incredibly dangerous to leave on a 5 hour drive when he was delirious from exhaustion. I hope you've managed to make contact now OP.

I'm not going to explain as it would be outing to the person involved but I worked with someone who had a similar situation and it turned out to be the absolute opposite of fine.

Sometimes dreadful things happen, hopefully not in this case but imo it's better to be save than sorry

Only on Mumsnet is it unusual to care for your husband

I don’t think that’s true at all. Most do care for their husbands. I think those that think we don’t, probably don’t have husbands or partners that regularly work away in vastly different time zones. Those of us who do are used to not having regular contact and know that if anything untoward was to happen you’d find out quickly.

Scottishlash · 01/10/2026 21:27

Hope all is ok. Is he still on your location?

crazymommaclub · 01/10/2026 22:15

Have you managed to get in touch with him? Is he still showing up as being at the hotel?

I’m not an audit, but if I were I would absolutely track and check up on everything, that’s literally audit’s job.

sorry.
a little bit anyway!

DoubleShotEspressox · 02/10/2026 06:18

I’d be worried too op. More so because he was delirious before going. He could just be exhausted but that’s also how I behaved when I (unknowingly) had sepsis. I was an argumentative arsehole, felt like shit and couldn’t think straight.

Hope you managed to get in touch and everything is ok.

Fieldday26 · 02/10/2026 06:19

Hopefully he checked in last night and all is now fine.

Parteepooper · 02/10/2026 20:42

Any update? This has played on my mind

FantasyFoodhall · Yesterday 04:35

OP I hope you’re ok
