Loudly complaining about smell in public loo

Suddenly needed to use the toilet (ibs) in M&S, a lady walked in and kept saying. "Oh god it stinks in here!" Over and over again to everyone in the queue.
aibu or is that a bit mean!? It's a toilet after all. I ended up having to stay in the cubicle for ages because then i was too embarrassed to walk out after she'd been telling everyone over and over again that it stinks.
i did flush multiple times to try and avoid too much smell but I'm not sure what else I could have done.

No, it's about needs, like the need to use the toilet. If judgmental folk need IBS patients and the ilk to not be in a certain space or carry vip poo type products that's a worthy spend right?

some one else’s poo smell is just grim. People who have IBS or eat too much meat or both should stay at home until their bowels are clear.

Or at the very least try and use products to save us all from the misery of their personal smells.

M and S loos always smell IMO as they are not allowed to use bleach . Most public loos do , maybe that's what she was referring to

I agree but some think it's all so easy. Along with vanilla,soy, mint and citronella allergies.

VIP poo stuff is about £1. No one is going to go through the stress and faff of applying for PIP for that.
And you don't need to claim PIP to use disabled loos. You also don't get it for having stinky shits, or having to deal with judgemental people.

Sounds stressful OP, im not saying this in a mean way but id definitely consider using the disabled toilet in future if its available for your own privacy and dignity.

Our local M&S is within a shopping centre. I'd only use them if NOT desperate. They are on 2nd floor at the the back of the store. 3 floors in total.

They have a funny smell to them. Not pee or poo, something else.

To be fair, I'm sensitive to smells. If I smelt something really bad in a loo, I'd probably use another cubicle.

My biggest toilet gripe is unisex loos. Shouldn't be allowed. Because men will pee over the seats that women have to sit on...

Agree its definitely mean. I can just about forgive a small child for mentioning a smell, not an adult!

Also suffer with ibs type symptoms.

I have a bottle of a different brand at home. It gets used because my loo comes off my kitchen.
It does work, but you still end up associating the smell with shit anyway.
My DF took DM's nice Rituals room spray, and used it to cover up all manner of his own nasty smells. Ruined that scent for her 😆

You missed the bit about clearing your bowels.

My bowels are unpredictable. When i need to go i need to go. Its not pleasant but im human. I leave the toilet clean.

No one's bowels are really clear unless they are prepping for a colonoscopy.

IBS and Crohn's are conditions where someone can suddenly need to go. Not much warning. Should they just stay at home?

This comment is so ignorant it’s laughable. People with IBS can’t wait till their bowels are clear, they might never be clear, you’d end up never leaving the house. And equally on another day I can have diarrhoea several times and think I’m safe to go out and then have it again. There’s no planning any of it. It’s one of the most miserable things to have (and I have a lot of chronic health issues including lupus and very serious ones and ibs is one of the most debilitating ones for me).

It's impossible to know. In a flare can spend a morning shitting myself inside out, leave the house thinking I'm at tare weight and suddenly, bam, I have to go again.

Obviously the smell of other people's shit is unpleasant and unless there's something very wrong with a person, nobody with any natural sense of shame wants others to smell their shit. But if and when it does happen, unpleasant as it is, it is not so intolerable that it renders you utterly unable to cope.

For example I fucking hate having to walk through clouds of vape smoke - the scent of it makes me feel queasy. It's unpleasant, I'd rather it didn't happen, but I can cope with it.

Every M&S garage I’ve been to, the toilets are beyond vile. They stink of piss and they’re just disgusting.

I was coming home late one night with DD and suddenly had a very bad digestive problem.

I actually wanted to go into the garage and get my own back 🤣 (although since the staff obviously never clean them, it would have been some poor innocent motorist that got the brunt!) so I opted to keep driving.

I did not quite make it home. 🤦‍♀️
Luckily, managed to get in and cleaned up although DS was retching 🤣 at the toxic fumes emanating from the hallway.

DD had wisely scarpered and I had to shout on DS for help. I did cackle loudly 🤣

Thank God for bleach and 60C washes! And showers with antibacterial soap 🧼 🤣🙌

It’s not fun when you can’t get to your own bathroom.

Ive definitely commented on public lois being stinky, maybe not over and over and certainly wouldn’t talk to strangers about it.
She probably thought it wasn’t cleaned well or regularly enough

i don’t have diagnosed IBS but will often be caught out and desperately need to go. I think ish psychological too as it’s usually when I know the loo is far away or I don’t know if/where there is one!!! I can pop to loo loads before leaving but it will only happen at the most annoying time!!

This is a real lark for me, IBS is a first world problem. For a start western diets are correlated with bowel problems, and bowel disease. As a matter of fact it is particularly related to Northern Europe and especially scotland. Lack of vegetables in peoples diet are a significant factor and eating too much red processed meat

so sort out your diets folks and stop inflicting your bowel problems on us.

If you have bad IBS the vipoo perfume spray isn’t that effective, it just sort of combines with the poo smell and leaves the place stinking of shitoria’s secret/chanel no 2.

If by work you mean triggers an asthma attack for the next person who walks into the room, then yes?
