Loudly complaining about smell in public loo

Suddenly needed to use the toilet (ibs) in M&S, a lady walked in and kept saying. "Oh god it stinks in here!" Over and over again to everyone in the queue.
aibu or is that a bit mean!? It's a toilet after all. I ended up having to stay in the cubicle for ages because then i was too embarrassed to walk out after she'd been telling everyone over and over again that it stinks.
i did flush multiple times to try and avoid too much smell but I'm not sure what else I could have done.

Family legend has it that my now departed FIL had gone to a public loo, he had a really bad stomach, did what he had to do, next chap went in, 10 seconds later he came stumbling out with his trousers round his ankles dry heaving....

I would have called out "So sorry about the smell, I have stomach problems" then washed my hands and left.
Some people just like to comment on everything loudly, try not to take it to heart Op.

I don’t think they are fair comparisons. Of course people should try and minimise the stink if they possibly can.

"Thank goodness you are still here! I purposely did a really smelly poo just to upset you, I was worried you would leave after complaining so much."

If there’s a simple way of reducing the impact of an unpleasant smell on other people in a shared space, it’s not unreasonable to use it.

This is in no way analogous to asking a an autistic person to suppress a meltdown, a partially sighted person to apologise for their condition or asking someone with Tourette’s to stop swearing.

Having consideration in a shared space is not the same as discrimination against disabled people.

The smell of poo while you’re doing a quick wee in a public toilet is not equally as awful as the pain, urgency, stress, anxiety, and potential mess of an IBS attack.
Nobody (well, perhaps some people do; there’s a kink for everything these days!) makes the toilets stink on purpose, and there’s only so much VIPoo and Poo Pourri can hide!

I have IBS OP. It’s horrible when you have to go and urgently. She was out of order. Just sorry you were made to feel embarrassed. It’s a bodily function over which you have no control.

I've actually read a post on a different forum where a person was suggesting that people shouldn't poo in a public loo and why can't they hang on until they get home.

I agree that these aren't realistic comparisons and I don't think it would be even try to say that those with mentioned conditions dont try to mitigate their symptoms in public. In the case of both autism and tourettes the very act of trying to suppress symptoms can make the symptoms worse. People with visual or hearing impairment often use tools to try and mitigate the impact their symptoms have. No disabled person should ever apologise for their existence.

Only subject the disabled to it it, then? Nice.

Because they are clean so everyone heads to them as first choice!
