To think It was really sad to read so many posts where men detail unwilling sex or waking up to sex acts etc. All saying no one takes this seriously and the impact its had on them.

Is this widely known?

Do we need to be talking about women gaining consent from men more .

The majority of sexual assaults against people of either sex, including rape, are perpetrated by men.

Only men can rape.

Incorrect.
Rose West raped women with a hairbrush.

What do women have to do with a story of a man being assaulted by a man?

JHound · 29/09/2026 16:38

I do know there are some women (and a hell of a lot of men) who seem to the think inappropriate sexual behaviour from women to men is somehow ok or “not as bad” because of the size / strength differential and I have even seen that attitude on MN.

I remember Linford Christie’s documentary when he mentioned when all the “lunchbox” headlines came out he would be and he’d had women just lunge to grab his genitals and find it funny. My dad was sexually assaulted at work (he was a delivery driver) by a woman who constantly harassed him and when he decided to report it to their HR the older man and women in the office found it funny. He said there was only person, a younger woman who was very assertive about them taking it seriously.

So yes some women do need to get that message but a story of a man being assaulted by a man and pivoting to women is odd.

I do think this is something men need to speak on though. I always face vitriol from men when I talk about how this behaviour from some women to men and boys is wrong.

I think the difference is men assaulting women is actually very common place. Women assaulting men is much rarer.
A women isnt really is a position to physically intimidate/overpower a man anyway so how would they even do it? Surely the man would just shove them aside and walk off?

Edited

This implies that every woman who is sexually assaulted is overpowered and couldn’t walk away.

OP I agree with you. Just speaking anecdotally but I have male friends who have been assaulted by women. Often in similar circumstances to how women get assaulted - too much drink, with a friend, and they got taken advantage of etc.

What's interesting to me is that these men don't view it as assault. They will describe what happened, how they felt afterwards and so on - and then blame themselves, but they rarely say "she took advantage/I didn't consent so therefore it's xyz".

Imo there is a massive underreporting of male sexual assault (perpetrated by both other men, and women) and this is why the figures skew so heavily towards men - statistically at any rate - presenting as more likely to commit these kind of crimes.

A deeply unpopular view, but one that I believe we will be talking about more and more as more men speak up about their experiences.

This is false. Regarding the skew of results.

Pollsters aren’t stupid. They don’t simply look at figures reported to police but surveys will structure questions to understand sexual assaulted rates even when the victim (male or female) does not see themselves as such. And men still commit the lion share of assault and coerced sexual activity.

I wasn't aware of the Andy Carroll thing till this thread, but wider discussion is always welcome.
A good friend of mine (male) was raped by a bunch of men on a beach in Europe many years ago - his life, physical and mental health have never properly recovered.
For my own part, nothing compares with my friend's experience, but I've been "roughly groped" 3 times. Once in a gay bar by a bloke - I had him thrown out.
Twice by inebriated women out on the town - once in Glasgow, once in London.
So it does happen.

I agree that the vast majority of sexual assault is male perpetrated. It’s overwhelmingly men.

However, I have experienced and witnessed many, many cases of inappropriate sexual behaviour from women. And it’s especially true on certain situations when kilts are worn or even just a certain type of male in clothing.

Not saying I think it’s ok but it doesn’t have the same potential of violence and invasion compared to a male perpetrator.

Tbh the lack of response to this thread makes me worry that a lot of women on here are ok with toxic masculinity attitudes and that disappoints me.

This isnt namalt its this is happening to men too

You started the thread at 11:15 and 11 minutes late are concerned about a lack of responses.

Then it wasn’t rape it was assault by penetration. I’m not diminishing the seriousness of the impact of that on the victim, but rape has a very specific definition in this country, and only men can do it as it requires a penis and only men have penises.

Because the Op started the thread with a point she wanted to make. So waited 11 mins and then pounced to make the point she always wanted to make
