To tell you that Jehovahs Witnesses have a list of people not to call on again?

The Jehovahs Witnesses come to my house every 6 weeks or so. It's annoying for various reasons but lets just say I work nights and am sometimes asleep in the day. The last time they came I told them not to come back and was told I'd be put on a list, like I've been naughty or something.

They've been deviating from their usual pattern of Saturday morning recently and they've come back today, they bypassed my house!! There really is a List! So if you don't want to be disturbed then ask to go on the list 😁

When you say they come to your house every 6 weeks do you normally let them in?
I just cant imagine them coming back regularly if you havent given them any encouragement.

It's not a naughty list. It's a list of houses with people who have asked them not to visit.

It seems eminently sensible and thoughtful to me.

Yes, contact your local Kingdom Hall and request politely to have no visits.

It’s one thing having your own beliefs but knocking on someone’s door to preach about your beliefs in order to try to convert them should be classed as breach of the peace!!

Pisses me off they think it’s perfectly fine to pester folk in their own home for their own selfish gain and encroach on peoples time. Absolute pests.

How odd. I have had one visit and lived here about 20 years, there is a Kingdom Hall about a mile away. They must think I’m beyond saving 😂

I guess they communicate and just say don't bother knocking at number* as they're not interested.

Maybe get a door sticker that reads no unsolicited callers?

Why should we have to do that? How about they don't knock on people's doors to preach.

Last time they came I told them I was a Buddhist, they ran away at speed and didn’t come back. I was very nice about it.

Those stickers make no difference. I had one at my previous flat and still got cold callers

They're cultists who prey on the lonely and bereaved. I had to call their headquarters in London twice before the visits stopped. The first time I was polite, the second time that I wouldn't be responsible for my actions if they dared to knock again. Haven't had a visit since.

Just ask them not to call again. They do indeed have a list of people who have asked them not to, and they seem to stick to it.

I’ve found mentioning devil worship and witchcraft similarly successful.

We have a demon head door knocker, a ceramic pumpkin and witches bells.

They did once post us a handwritten letter (A4 - FRONT AND BACK) detailing how they could help us.

The real reason for the visits isn't really to do with trying to find converts. It's to show the believers that the secular world is full of horrible rude people and so encourage them to stick with their Salvation Army friends. The mormons do the same for the same reasons.

Definitely don't invite them in. They just come to our village every 6 weeks or so. Every time I've made it clear that I wasn't interested. And the last time I told them they were in a cult I wasn't interested and would prefer that they didn't knock again.

I’m not a Jehovah’s Witness, but my dad is, and I’m currently staying with him. I can confirm that they have an online system which covers every street in their local area and records addresses where someone has specifically asked not to be called on again.
So yes — if you don’t want visits, just tell them explicitly: “Please don’t call here again and please record that we don’t want any further visits.” You can say it to them when they call, or contact your local Kingdom Hall.
I suspect the problem is that saying “I’m not interested” doesn’t necessarily get interpreted as “never come back”. You apparently have to be quite explicit!

We asked to be on their list many, many years ago. Only called once again to check we still lived here and still wanted to be on their no-call list. No contact since. Indeed, I haven't seen them around for some years. Maybe they've given up on our cul-de-sac.

We live rurally, so get handwritten letters. I think it's oddly lovely. Pointless, but lovely. When we lived in town and got door knockers I was always friendly, although I made it clear I wasn't a potential convert, being an ex-Christian who was no longer interested in religion. I don't get the appeal in being rude to them.

If that’s the only reason then why do they write to some people as well? They won’t get to see how ‘rude’ the person is as they don’t have direct contact. I’ve heard they need to be seen to be ‘spreading the word’ so some who are elderly and can’t get about to knock on doors write instead.

They write to my inner city address - a second class stamp, the envelope is either genuinely handwritten or it's a very convincing font for the address - it almost looks like a personal letter except for the small matter of having no name, just the address.

The letter inside is the same - it looks handwritten but it probably isn't; I never bothered reading it and subsequent letters have placed directly into the shredder.

It must cost them a fortune with a second class stamp nearly a quid these days - just writing to each address in my postcode would cost over £70.

We used to have a group of about 4 people (no idea if they where jw's or something else-the rumour was they where actually a cult) standing in the busy part of the town,screaming and screeching about what they believed in

You couldn't walk past without hearing their offensive views about 'gays are wrong,being black is wrong,being female is wrong!not believing in god is wrong!'

Basically anyone who didn't see things like they did where wrong and where 'going to burn in hell' and they where making sure you knew all about what they believed and sod anyone who disagreed (which was everyone who walked past from what I could see)

Just what anyone needs,especially when innocently walking down the street (and even more so if you had kids with you)

I'm not saying it was right,but they where attacked (it was in the papers) because someone challenged them and a fight broke out (they gave as good as they got) i know the council had so many complaints about them

They next time I saw them,they had 2/3 police standing next to them,they where screeching and shouting even louder with smirks on their faces

They should have been arrested for breach of the bloody peace,not protected

I ended up leaving my home town and moved away-fuck me,the first day I went into the 'new' city centre,they where different people doing the same thing!

I'm all for free speech but these people where pests and nasty with it

I am sure there is a list, as many have the door slammed in their face, homes to avoid.

Yeah I'm definitely on some sort of list they came once with the child of about eight and I told them that I felt they were incredibly abusive and I asked the child if she needed help and insisted that I gave her the phone number for ChildLine. I told the two adults with her who were getting very stressed that if they didn't let her take the number for ChildLine then they clearly were abusive. I also gave her a drink and something to eat as it was a hideously cold day. I've never had another one and I live in a very small terraced house where you see them walk past all the time. I was very very upset by it.

HRTFT but as an exJW I can confirm there are DNC. All you have to do is specifically ask to be a 'Do Not Call' and your address will be added to the small map of the area. Every time that map is pulled out for witnessing on the doors your address won't be visited. Some areas are visited far more often than others, although that shouldn't be the case.
I left a long time ago, but the above was correct when I was still active.

You can tell them to fuck off or slam the door, that would not get you added as a DNC. You need to specifically ask to be a DNC.
